Thanks for noticing. It is a lot of work to take and process the night video to get this kind of clarity. Creating the video took about 8 hours not including the 6 hours I was out shooting the trains! Here is the paragraph from the video description explaining how I shot it: "Most of this video was shot using extremely high ISOs between ISO 12,800 and ISO 80,000 using specialized night videography techniques and extensive post-processing. At the Tampa Bypass Canal and at several other spots in this video, there was no direct lighting, not even streetlights, and the scene would have been almost totally dark to the naked eye. Most railfan video shot under similar conditions appears almost completely black and grainy with most visible details blurred out. All video was shot handheld with a Canon R8 and RF 24-240mm f4-63 lens (daytime) and RF 35mm f1.8 IS STM macro lens."

Thanks, nice of you to notice. The clear night footage is not by accident. I've been doing low-light astrophotography for decades and have refined techniques for getting good low-light photos and video. Part of it is using a sensitive full-frame camera with exceptional low-light sensitivity, combined with a sharp, low-flare, image-stabilized lens. The other part is meticulous post-processing: image stabilizing, adjust the tone and color for, and denoising (if needed) each individual video clip. For this video this is about 5 hours of work, for some which have many more clips it can be 8-10 hours just for 15 minutes of video! Some nice stuff on your channel as well.

Thanks. Yes the ethanol train was originally B621. Interestingly the shots of Yeoman yard aren't drone shots, they are taken from the Orient Road overpass (bridge) that goes over a section of the yard, with a telephoto lens.

Thank you, it's nice to have people notice. I work very hard on the videos, shooting with a Canon R8 at night and sometimes an R7 during the day. At night I use very fast lenses like f1.8 or even on occasion f0.95! The R8 is great in low light, I can push to extreme ISOs and still get really good video with careful (but time-consuming) processing. To get the videos looking good I process every clip in the video individually if needed, for best sharpness, contrast, tone and color, using Neat de-noise in very dark conditions. For many clips I even dynamically adjust the tone curves and saturation at different points in the clip, and while shooting I change the aperture sometimes. At night when the train light shines in the lens the exposure is very different than the instant the headlight passes you - where the side of the engine is 3-4 stops darker than the scene that was lit by the headlight. I'm able to shoot in near total darkness, by Moonlight, skylight, or the lights of 1 or 2 street lights, in lighting where typical railfan video is nearly black or has little to no detail and color.

That's too bad, railfanning is no fun in the heat. Luckily Tampa was in the low 90s and humidity was fairly low yesterday, otherwise bike riding would have been no fun to make this video!

2 Amtrak trains come through Tampa every day P091 and P092, they are the most reliable and easiest to catch as you can track them on the Amtrak web page www.amtrak.com/track-your-train.html. If on time they arrive in Tampa around 1 PM and 5 PM, and in the past few months they almost always have a newer Siemens Charger locomotive in second position. Sundays through Fridays there is generally a burst of activity just around the time P092 leaves town, L778 on Neve Wye, L755 from Drew Park, and Y295 through downtown Tampa, plus Y293 going to the port and sometimes ethanol trains going to the port. All those can be caught at N 39th St between E 7th Ave and E Adamo Blvd, where the A line and S lines cross that street. You can listen to the railroad radio on the Scanner Radio app for your phone, 'CSX Railroad Greater Valrico Area' channel but it takes time to learn their lingo and locations.
