Why your trading strategy WON'T always work... I failed

Trading is risky, so you should become a pro at managing risk.
➡️ Most new traders over complicate trading.
➡️ If you simplify your strategy, you can focus more of your efforts on managing your risk.
➡️ This will lead to consistent profits.
➡️ Even though trading can be easy and calm, most people will still some how manage to lose money.

    Hey. I write again my comment. I had my first Green Day last Friday with your system. I had a loosing streak on my challenge account. I learn very much of these breakdown videos. I am already in the group try to be as active as a two time toddler mom can be. Thank for explaining every week the same thing. It’s not getting boring. I still trade my style but see things a bit different. You got me with one sentence „for this strategy is no bias needed, or big analyzing market structure shifts whatever. It’s simple, the opposite direction. That’s it.“ Thank you. 🎉

    I found you on Thursday. Took your strategy on Friday in action. And had a first green day on my challenge after a loosing streak. I marked up just majors, gold, oil, platinum. Oil has a pretty clean price action like platinum. Respects levels very good. ( no Futurs) I learned so much from these videos. I joined your group. With two kids not much time. I will do my best to be active. Thanks for your time on these breakdowns. And I am happy you take your time. We want to learn. 🎉

    I took a trade today. AU. Based on your „strategy“. Pending order. No second guessing. But I have a traditional SL. I don’t know how many pips. And how many pips to TP. I focus on the process. Do not look at pips so much.

    @jana8363 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hello James. I watched now almost all of your videos. Found you last night. The algorithm 😂 I have to watch again because you drop some interesting informations about some pairs behaviour. After your first videos I watched. I asked myself where is the SL. Now you talked about it. You really really have to make a video on that topic. You are the only one I know that makes this. It’s kind of dangerous to me. But I think I got the point. You have a SL in the amount of money you are willing to lose for the week. But do you have this just in your head or put it actually? What if something happens like on the Nikkei not long ago. I woke up here in Germany and there was a big drop. No news related. No SL would blow accounts. So you have to babysit your trades? Of course not if it’s in the right direction, but if not you have to watch and react right? I trade for as long as you. But I had two big breaks from trading. I had two pregnancies, so two little children. Now since few months I start finally go back to trading. But you spoke about in your videos about few things that happen to me like thousands of others. My bias is right my trades are ok with the entry, related to my plan. And my SL is in place. Not too small. But ….. I mostly get hit and then it moves my direction. Or more often I watch and think „ aha there was that previous swing/SR level“ and I didn’t pay that much attention. Analysis in the HT and enter on the 15m or 1h. But it’s not for me I think. I reviewed my stats and found out I should stick to 4h or higher. Anyway. You could a morning chart routine. If you open TradingView and click through your chart what you see or your thoughts on your ideas for the week. You spoke about news in a video. Yes everybody says avoid it. But if I would avoid news. I could not trade like I would. With a bigger watchlist there is always news. And as you said it’s a catalyst or driver for the market. But it’s something I have to unlearn. And a quick video on your ideas for the next week, could be just one idea. On sunday or so. The recap video is also a great opportunity to watch things played out. Just to see and learn. I marked up few trades and ideas. In my practice demo I will put in the work for this week and next week. I trade only gold oil platinum EU. I put few more on my list. The majors. But that’s enough for now. Your psychology videos are also on point. You talked about few things no one talks about. I usually do not get into TH-cam new trader channels and videos so much because I don’t want to distract myself. I focus on my psychology more. Not to focus on the outcome is the key and the hardest. Because this leads to every possible mistake. You said a few times about some topics „I will make a video on that“, maybe you could note that to not forget. Because you bring a whole different look at things. My head brings me the most trouble in my performance. Ok. Sorry for that long comment. Good job and I can see instantly you make a good job and want to help people. Thank you. Be prepared. As do not trade ICT or whatever your subs will grow slowly. People are dumb. They want signals or the easy way, believe everything. But if someone shows some different things and opinions they don’t want to listen. Psychology are needed. Not another „best strategy in the world 100% winrate“. It’s the trader. Not the strategy. So switching every week leads to failure. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪☺️

      @@TheSunsetEdition Not exactly. Levels are only relevant if the context makes them so. ATR is an added confluence that could indicate a higher chance of the level working. It can be used with other confluences, but I don’t suggest blindly taking trades from levels where ATR aligns. I’d prefer if price has breached ATR and hits a strong level.

    • @jamesdowntonfx
      @jamesdowntonfx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Percentage of profit to risk per trade is entirely on the trader. You know how much capital you have, and you should know your hit rate from your trade journal. The way I trade, I can sometimes take 2 positions that which I treat as 1 trade. So I factor this in whilst planning the trade. I cannot give you a set "risk" to take as trading (in my opinion) is not mechanical and extremely contextual.

    Way above my pay grade. What does it mean when a trade "fails"?

    • @jamesdowntonfx
      @jamesdowntonfx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What specifically is above your pay grade? A trade has "failed", when the reasons you took the trade have now been invalidated, and a new context has formed. This most often occurs when we see market flows. Market flows being a change in market driver. The problem is most new traders are taking trades without strong enough "reasons" to get involved. 👊

      I use Notion as it's super flexible and I can document as much or as little as I want. I have tried trade journal software, but found all of them too rigid.
