Coming from Sydney...what I noticed was that while Melbourne CBD is excellent...you guys dont have your own parramatta, chatswood, burwood etc...style hubs. Its pretty flat, urban sprawl in the suburbs. Get out of this American Propaganda single family home on a quarter acre block, car dependant mentality and densify and bring in lots of essential services, restaurants, entertainment, public transport connections, and other amenities.

Werribee..great place to live to bring up children . Schools everywhere shopping centres every where and lovely walks near river area and lots of other attractions. Lots of greenery and well kept. Don’t have to take out massive loans from banks and have to live in crappy old houses that cost a fortune on the other side of town. Lived here for a long time so was able to pay off the house quickly while the stuck up bozos on the other side are still paying off their dumbass huge mortgage whilst living in their rundown home which is half renovated. We continuously travel and live well …that’s the benefit of not buying in stuck up bozo suburbs.

Only the first point about investment return is specific to Docklands. However, it depends when you buy/bought. Overwhelmingly, originally, the apartments were bought off the plan by overseas investors who paid way too much for them at the time. Many are down by about 30% of their original purchase price over the last 10 years. There are currently 4 new apartment blocks being built in Docklands, mostly advertised to overseas investors and again I can see they are at least 25% above real value. For me, as a citizen, I can buy second hand apartments, I am not restricted to new and off the plan. I bought an amazing apartment on Collins Street with a water view for $267,000 less than the original purchase price when new. My chance of an increase of value may not be massive over the next 5 years but I am unlikely to see a 30% drop compared to the original owner and the rental return for the price paid is very reasonable. The Collins Street part of Docklands is the best area of Docklands by far and is always competitive for overseas students looking to rent due the closeness to the city and free tram terminus.

Hi Richard, thanks for sharing your perspective. Unfortunately, I was one of those foreign investors who overpaid for a waterview apartment on Collins Street back then! 😂

Hot take from a Melbourne resident of 12 years: the inner north's dirtiest secret is that the vast majority of people who live there also drive everywhere. Unless you live *in* Brunswick itself, Coburg, Northcote, Thornbury, Preston are all just as car centric. Bell Street is horrendously car-centric.

In Australia, i found no one had any stories to tell. There is no folklore at all, even their newspapers are so dull. And everyone, more so their old folks always seem to be angry over everything possible. People don't speak and even if they do, can’t put coherent words together. Their new generation is way behind others in the world in terms of technology. May be after these oldies find their way to the clouds, something will change and Australians will find life more exciting.

There is something that was missed! Eastern outer suburbs are not as depressing as the western examples "shown in the video". A lot of people think that trees will grow in western outern suburbs with time. No! they wont. The west is a "rain shadow area", it rains approximately 50% less between West gate bridge and Geelong ( compared to rest of Melbourne and its east or south east ). The west will never be as green. You need natural watering source from the sky to sustain "natural plant/grass growth" and that is scarce in the west. This is the reason, you see fake grass in most western suburbs. Its not just ease of maintainence of the fake grass, the natural grass looks brown if it cant be naturally irrigated in the summers. It is indeed depressing across the entire other side of west gate bridge. The only benefit with western suburbs is the proximity to the city and warehouses. Other than that, it is a piece of @$%%&&@

Being a Interstate visitor from South Australia my impression about Wirrabee station it's dirty, horrible, very unwelcoming, the toilet are absolutely disgusting and so out dated and yet the Victorian government are willing to spend tax payers money on the level crossing removal projects and upgrade other stations but Wirrabee station don't get any upgrades. I feel really bad for the local commuters they still have to use a very out dated and dilapidated station but in the meantime other stations our getting a much needed upgrade and Wirrabee station sadly misses out
