Breath of the Wild Seven Years Later: A Review
Reviewing Breath of the Wild!
This Legend of Zelda game came out on the switch back on March 3rd of 2017. It was a launch title for the switch! However, it has been seven - almost eight - years since this game came out. Is it as good as we remember? Have games gotten better than this? Do we look back at this game with rose-colored glasses? Once more let's dive into the game, pick it apart piece by piece, and review the story and gameplay in it's entirety!

A once in a generation masterpiece. One of those rare video games that’s actually worth my a game system for.
totk>>>>>>>
My god this game is good. The first time a played it i rushed the story and thought it was great. I then decided to play it again last year, after playing TOTK, this time taking my time to explore everything, and wow, saying that I fell in love with it doesn't do it justice. The sounds and music, the story, the freedom you have ecc... I get chills everytime link gets out of the shrine in the beginning. This game will forever be special to me
this video is INCREDIBLE. i’m so surprised that this doesn’t have many more views
That opening sequence can’t be beaten.
Is describing everything that happens a review?
I know I’m 3 years late, but I can’t seem to get it to work, at the end, the view memory button appears then disappears. Please help
@CyrusDaSyrup this is one of the harder glitches to get working I've found! Iirc what really helped me was slowing down a bit for the two a presses (and leaving a bigger gap than you think between the a press and the right, about half a second or so), then the right - a happening almost instantaneously one after the other
This is a Underrated ass freaking channel dude, this video is the quality that other videos lack and u nailed it with this video man. Straight to the point and I loved that keep up the work man
I remember always seeing the divine beasts in the distance, added such a crazy mystery and wonder.
I can’t believe this game is almost 8 years old 😭
My husband and I are currently working in a BOTW run again and I forgot how simple and beautiful this game was.
Imagine a zelda game set on a massive world ship named the Hyrule. And you wake up from a pod. Lol captain zelda needs you link! Lol and you were originally going to be the janitor or something silly . And you go on the adventure for saving the ship.
Im literally playing this again for the 10th time! Every time i play its different! ❤❤❤
I find the game wildly uninteresting. I far, FAR prefer the linear games that came before. Every time I attempt to play Breath of the Wild, my eyes just glaze over fifteen minutes in. I played Skyward Sword last year and I'm enthralled the whole time.
@@OnePolishMoFo you clearly have unhealed childhood trauma and should probably rethink your life, in its entirety
26:37 REE-JEW NOT ree-yew KAW-Kuh-ree-how not CACK-uh-red-koh Like what’s hard
If you got the switch at launch, nothing will compare with that ooen BOTW shot of leaving the shrine of resurrection, seeing a while new world combined with that fresh new console feeling.... Especially after the Wii U and skyward sword... Its going to be hard to recreate this exact feeling
@@falconblack facts.
My strategy for the lynel was go to Gerudo town to buy shock arrows because I could figure out how to sneak around the lynel
I friggen loved my first botw run, actually magical
I would do anything just to play this game for the first time again
Same
me too.
If it's been awhile, revisit it but don't try to minmax
@ailee3459 Im playing this game right now for the first time. So not so bad being late for 8yrs
you 100% completed it because you looked up a few things, keep it real.
May not be a popular opinion..I think Botw is better than Totk.
Agreed. Both games are fantastic, but BOTW is the game all about discovery. TOTK does have elements of that, but it treats it more like, “yeah you’ve seen this before, here’s some new stuff to play with, go crazy!”
That's becoming more and more popular. Let's just say one won GOTY and the other didn't.
@@Mswordx23 To be fair TOTK was a runner up for 2023 goty
@@Mswordx23 bro totk went against BG3 lol
great video. Weird I can watch and appreciate reviews of this game but I just cannot get into Zelda games. Been gaming since SNES and just find Zedla games incredibly boring. I own this game on Wii U AND Switch and haven't played more than a few minutes. Same goes for Ocarina. Tried the 3DS remake, got to the first cut scene with some magic tree and just never went back to it. I just don't get these games.
Are you okay?
@@rayawakening I am. Which is more than I can say for your hairline.

@@minoxiis3419 lol not actually this time! It was all recorded from my switch
What did you think about Monk Maz Koshia?
@SheikahDiver I really liked the build-up to his fight, the divine beast, and the actual fight with him! I first challenged him in master mode, and by the end broke every weapon I had (including the master sword three times lol)
7 Years?!!
Nah it's not just one of the greatest Zelda games. It is a top 10 game of all time.
7 years later and I still have no interest in BotW or TotK.
@joanbighorn9778 then why are you watching the vid 😭💀
@ Came up as a recommended video and figured a negative comment would help take it out of my algorithm.
@@joanbighorn9778 pretty sure it’ll do the opposite.
Congratulations. You played yourself.
@joanbighorn9778 that is not how it works TH-cam doesn't care if it's bad or good it will take it as a I LIKE THIS no matter what so I advise to not comment on vids you dont like just press not interested lol
1:45 still gives me chills. I love the sountracks in BotW so much!! 😭
@@cherish_xo Yeah, it's a Pavlovian response for me at this point
I played this and Immortal Fenyx Rising and love them both equally as open world games.
This isn’t as much as a review as it is a retelling of the story of botw
@@olyuppi7331 more of a retrospective, if you will
This almost puts a point on my thoughts of BotW and TotK. TotK objectively is the better game, but the experience of BotW is more impactful.
Hear that a lot. Reminds me of people preferring OOT or MM.
Botw is probably a better and more complex complete game then just about anything after. Most games are getting patched into oblivion, play badly with either server issues or poor development strategy. Some even shove ideas down your throat like no other. ( Veilgaurd). Botw and the sequel totk are peak video game. Though Totk could have a little more content.
"Later entries into the franchise could really take note here" ...you say that like you dont have two instances of "later entries" that do exactly that.
im not anywhere close to being done with this game, as i started playing maybe a week ago and havent gone a day without playing at least a little. it is my first loz game, other than Wind Waker but i never made it past a couple hours in that game due to my gamecube being..a gamecube. i never thought i would feel such sensations of growth and discovery than when i began playing BOTW. the cooking, the combat, the music, the casual tone that still manages to keep me on my toes no matter where i am. i consider this to be a better open world experience than many others, including Elden Ring, Skyrim, The Witcher, etc.
why long video essays reviews just story recaps. i played the game already
This is a great review! This game has its flaws but it’s still a masterpiece. There’s so many ways to play the game and explore the world. I will never forget my first playthrough of the game and I hope that one day I can relive a similar experience.
I love this game so much
I'm still working through the script of the totk review (currently 25 pages in lol), but spoilers it may not be, ah, as favorable as this one!
why does everyone hate totk so much
For me it felt like the devs took the carefully crafted quiet atmosphere from botw, threw it all out and made everything big and flashy (at the expense of the story and plot). Plus, there's so many missed opportunities such as letting the player walk through ruined shrines or broken divine beasts (so the player could feel a sense of accomplishment for what they did in botw, and also have something new to explore). Instead, everything from botw is strangely missing without explanation
@ i felt like totk was a LOT more relaxing and quiet, they just made the gameplay when you’re following the story and not exploring cooler
Personally I much prefer the totk story (even if watching it in the proper order would make more sense). in botw Zelda is forever depressed, at least in totk she takes control of her destiny
@ YEAHHH out of all of the aspects of the game i don’t understand why the story is so hated
breath of the wild is one of those games that I always find a time to replay during the year. i may not finish it, and theres no specific time of year i choose, but since it came out its always found a place in my games rotation. its one of the most recent games i still find nostalgia in, thank you for giving this beautiful game your time and attention, I cannot wait for your TOTK part 2 video!!
My question to people is BOTW or TOTK?
@@randomedgygamer2191 botw all day, totk didn't give me the same sense of fun for some reason
@@Pwl_real18829 i kind of agree
As someone who recently completed BOTW and is currently deep into TOTK I can say that I prefer BOTW. TOTK as simple as I can put it, is just BOTW with extra steps.
@@_YourFlyIsOpen botw with extra "tech" that breaks immersion
BOTW all day every day
This game was designed to reward slowing down.
everyone be quiet, my tv dinner show is on
this is like falling in love with botw all over again omg and the pupil dilation on ur little figure is super cute
I’ve not played this game, my own games of choice typically involving parsnips, but I’ve watched a number of playthroughs. There’s another interesting balance in the game in that we ae given a profoundly urgent mission and then dash off to chase chickens. Next time I watch a playthrough I want to pay attention to how the more lighthearted side quests help Link to prepare for Gabon This is a fun watch and I look forward to the TotK episode.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Great job.
vah heffalump 💯💯
its os cool because i am too preplaying!!! best game still on the 3 beast hehe!
Still one of the top games ever! Thanks for this video. Super commentary!
BOTW still tramples 99% of modern games with ease as far as quality
@@LargeIcedMrBs HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA............. Oh youre being serious.........
@TickeyWickey4u touch grass instead of getting offended by my opinion
Especially in the realm of player freedom. Hand-holding and scripting in most games feels like it's even worse than it used to be.
@@LargeIcedMrBs gameplay is good but lack of non-repetitive content will always haunt it
@@Ankhyl that's fair. I would also have liked more dungeons and bosses

Great video, Im playing currently my third run of TOTK, been loving the series since BOTW! Btw such a good video, good editing, great commentary and script! To support, +1 sub, from Portugal!
