🌊Misty Ogle Semanco🌊bio:
After a battle with breast cancer a few years ago, having a bilateral mastectomy, & over a year of chemo. I wanted to replace being in the infusion room with something new, relaxing, & fun when I finished my treatment. I had kayaked before, so I bought a boat & started going out a few days a week exploring rivers, lakes, & creeks all over. When I hit one year in remission, I bought my first ww kayak & all the gear I needed & started paddling whitewater. I fell in love with it. When I was in high school the ‘96 Olympics were held on the Ocoee River. My parents used to drive up to the Smokies all the time & we stopped at Hell’s Hole to take pics of some kayakers. I knew then that I wanted to do this someday. I was a collegiate athlete & now I'm a sports massage therapist & an artist, so when I’m on the river I’m also gathering inspiration to paint! Check out my artwork at mistyogle.com. I’m cancer free now btw! See you out on the river! Elevate your game!

Can you camp on the side of the Elijah River?
You can’t camp on this part of the Cartecay River unfortunately bc there are private residential properties that run along beside it. You can’t even get out on the banks actually bc you’d be on someone’s property. Maybe you can on other parts of the river, I’m not sure.
why the shit music?
dI have never done the Cartecay, but I met a couple of kayakers that had been practicing on it one day on the Ocoee. They thought they would give it a try after scouting it from the road. they said it looked just like the Cdartecay.I was catching eddys and they went ahead. When I caught up to them at 2ed helping. One was sitting on the right bank and his boat was on river left. I went over and towed his kayak river right. I took the second kayaker, neeking everything we could down to GoForth. I loaded up his kayak and drove up to 2ed helping and loaded up the other kayak. took them to the take-out and their car and suggested they might want to practice on the Nantahala. A couple of weeks later one of my friends said he had met two boys over on the Nantahala that new me. Hope they are on the ocoee by now.
💙
Saturday was a blast! You could feel the extra juice from the upper release.
Yeah, it was! I love it when the upper is flowing too! 🤗
cool! a lot of people out there wowz
That wasn’t really a lot for ocoee. It gets really busy in the summer. It was nice out there!
ya'll make it look easy
I was by the road cheering you on with jumps, splits and squeals like a HS cheerleader, haha, (not reallly)...I'm sitting in my living room in FL and its raining outside, but still enjoyed it.
Haha! You had me going there for a second. 😂🤣😂
its barely 80F here in NE FL so I guess its pretty dang cold up there.
It was pretty chilly!😂🥶
Nice vid and a cool crew!
Thanks, Brannon!😊
ALRIGHT!!!! Love the video🔥🫵🏽 keep ‘em comin!!!
Thanks, Hunter! Can’t wait to paddle with you soon!
nver seen this river before. But I've heard about it. Met a couple of guy's on the Ocoee that had been practicing on the cartecay, and they were not having a good day. After a couple of swims and saves. one took off while the other one followed me down to "Go Forth Creek. I loaded him up and went back to get the other one and took them to the takeout. I suggested they try practicing on the Nantahala. I later heard from a friend that he saw them over there. Hope they were able to get back to the Ocoee.
#1Stickfigurefan you are in this video! Great day out there!
First like coming your way!! Glad you’re ok.
Thank you! Meeee too! 😅
Where is the camera?
@@roberthaas6661 camera is on a side helmet mount. Thanks for watching!
👍….thought it may have been on pole,I like the view.
@@roberthaas6661 thanks! I like the different perspective too. And it gives the top of my helmet more clearance from rocks when rolling with the GoPro.
How soon was this after a rain/storm? & do you remember what part of the river was measuring 600 cfs?
It had been raining a lot that week previously. It made the creek higher and faster. Also washed out most of those few fun little rapids. 600cfs that day from Graysville (Old Mill put in to Camp Jordan. Looked it up online beforehand. This video was from a year ago. Thanks for watching!
This is so cool! Haven’t met the Hargrove fam yet but super cool to see this! Just had my pfd this past weekend. Super stoked for you
Paddle with them if you get a chance! It’s a fun time and a great learning experience. Congrats on your pfd! Happy paddling and thanks for watching!
looks like ya had a ton o' fun
Yeah, it was a really fun day! Thanks for watching!
good stuff just got our first kayaks
Thanks for watching!
Looks like a fun day. Wish I could have made it! Also, look at that Eric!
how long did it take you to do that?
The water was running higher this time, so only a couple hours. But normally it takes about 3 or 4 hours.
Oi! Got you on that EastGhost!
Yeah! love it- I’ve been checking it out!
Beautiful video! Where did you park and launch kayaks? Thank you!
Thank you! We put in at Blythe Ferry and parked there too. And paddled pretty far out. My photographer friend took lots of beautiful photos of the sandhill cranes, and I have some from the year before also with pelicans, and eagles if you want to see you can check out my Instagram kayaking adventures @mighty_mist29 and scroll down till you find them. It’s a pretty incredible experience!
that was so great! just watching made my blood pressure go back to normal :)
Thanks for watching!
This was the flow I ran a ducky over on August 19th - it sure looks like a different experience at this higher flow than typical flows! Thanks so much for posting this!
What a great day! We're so glad you made it!
It was a fun day! I didn’t get much video footage. 😞 My GoPro did that weird thing that yours was doing before. Almost all of my clips cut off after 3 seconds. 😑
@@mightymist update the firmware
Great video - do you remember what the release flow (CFS) was that day? I ran it in mid August two consecutive days, first over 1,000 CFS, and second around 840 CFS - looked very different! Great run you did.
Thanks! I’m normally really good about keeping up with those numbers for my videos. But, I don’t think about it as much on this one. I think it was around 755 cfs maybe. I can’t remember though! I’ve been running this river almost every weekend since July and it looks similar to this video to me. How did it look different to you? Thanks for watching!
@@mightymist It certainly looked lower than the 850 cfs I ran it on the second day, a lot of the faster water looked more choppy. One of the NOC staff told me that the river had been low much of the summer. Having run it only those two days in higher water, I just wonder how different the river experience would be far lower. Thanks for replying! Be safe out there!
@@jasongray7447 I think you probably ran it when there was also an upper release. It’s dam controlled and it generally runs at 586 cfs - 7 something. Unless, there’s a lot of rain on top of it, the Nantahala is pretty dependable. So, it’s not low in my video at all, it’s normal. It’s always a good time though. I ran it every weekend of August as well. One of my favorite rivers!
@@mightymist Every weekend! Lucky you. We ran it right after the Tropical Storm came through that caused all the terrible flooding in Canton, so, we knew it was higher than normal. The current was powerful and a little concerning at times (my whitewater skills are very rusty)! I'd love to run it in the fall when the leaves are on fire.
Nice video, Misty!
Thanks, Dean! 😊
Awesome video! Im ready to go back!
Thank you! Me too!
What section is this? Thanks
It’s Section 3
@@mightymist Thanks again..
Thanks Misty! Heading down on the 4th. Maybe see you there!
@Richard M Yeah, I’ll be there! See ya soon
What was the get in/get out points?
The put in is 1554 lower Cartecay rd at the outfitters- Cartecay River Experience and take out was at Stegall Mill Rd.
Love that waterfall! Thanks for sharing
Me too! Thanks for watching! Don't know how I missed this comment.
@@mightymist you're welcome!
And at 1:37 seconds
Is your dad, Logan? He’s awesome! He’s at the end too!
At 0:44 seconds that was ky dad in the black keyak
Awesome video Misty😎🤘🏽
Thank you! 😊
Just got home from running this stretch for the first time, at about the same level. Your video helped me know what to expect; we had 3 people running open canoes. Had a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, that’s awesome! It’s a really fun river to paddle. I’ll be posting more videos as I run different rivers! Thanks so much!
Subbed and loved! Great video!
Thank you!
Great footage. What do you edit with?
Thank you! I use iMovie for the long ones. Every now and then if I do a shorty, I’ll use the GoPro app on my phone.
@@mightymist lol... damn... I was hoping you wouldn't say that. #androidlife I have DaVinci but I don't know how to use it. I use the go pro app but it leaves alot to be desired
Haha! I know right?!? Yeah, I quit using the app for that same reason. But I liked the convenience of editing a short video from my phone. But, oh well. I really like iMovie. I may try something else out and see what it’s like.
I love the Toccoa!
Me too! It’s a beautiful river!
Thanks for the sub btw! We're hitting section 3 again this Saturday and will be doing a PFD of the Nanty on Sunday if you want to join
Ditto! I’m going on that section 3 trip too! Thank you for the invitation. Look forward to meeting you!
See you there!
