My only hang up on this video is acting like it wasnt that bad. I wish people would stop comparing my ancestors to those of native Americans and african slaves. All 3 groups were taken against their will from the only home they ever knew, became property of someone else, forced to work without pay, treated as if they were dirt, so on and so on. Every historian does this comparison as if it all wasnt slavery in different forms Perpetuated by the ENGLISH. The comparison just comes off like a back handed compliment. Mocking ones experience.

Thanks for the video. I am a decendant of two of the Dunbar prisoners: Phillip McIntyre and Malcolm MacCallum...Strange to think if they hadn't been brought to America I wouldn't be here to watch this video. There needs to be a movie or mini series about these men. Looks like my MacCallum ancestor was at the Iron works.

Wabanaki and People of the Dawn or People of the First Light. This is a little strange to me (I am part Delaware-Lenape.) The ancient Nephilim also called themselves People of the Dawn, People of the First Light and Sons of God. There is a mystic place here in the South/West where people see strange phenomena since I was a child and still do. These Interdimensional Beings there also call themselves, Wabanaki. Am I puzzled, yes!

Hmmm. I wonder if he is related to John Magoon who I am descended from. John was taken to the Massachusetts Bay Colony aboard The Unity in 1650. In any event, a big shout out to them. Things were truly rough back then.

According to family tradition John MacBean named was changed on the ship manifest. Many Scots carry the Mac prefix which means "Son of". Its said that the holder of the manifest wrote a ditto sign " for Mac and then the surname. Our name was also changed phonetically. In Scotland Bean is pronounced Bayne. ea was pronounced ay. In English ea is pronounced ee

On the ship manifest, the St Clairs were listed as "Sinklers" for some reason, but they took their real name back for their own children and descendants. *I posted this before I heard the question and answer section.

I am the direct descendant (12 th grandson) of two of those Scottish POW's ( Bean and Sinclair) captured at the battle of Worcester in 1651, sold at Saugus House to Nicholas Lissen in Exeter NH. Bean and Sinclair married daughters. Hannah Lissen died and Bean returned to Scotland and retrieved his second wife Margaret. John Bean has literally hundreds of thousands of descendants in America. Bean and Sinclair were highlanders. They likely both spoke Gaelic. The highlanders were definitely "clannish" and would have stuck together as highlanders.

Cromwell had several reasons for selling these prisoners. Not only did he relieve himself of the responsibility of feeding and housing the "troublemakers", the profits helped fund his army.

I can't thank you enough for this episode. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have been struggling with wanting to write but not knowing where to start, or what to write. As a genealogist, I absolutely love the idea of writing my day to day as history. Yes - I have ancestors' journals of chores and visits and wish there was a bit more context with it. How did I not think of this before? I appreciate the excellent ideas and variations of journaling you mentioned, and some of your ideas for writing prompts as well. I really do appreciate your consideration of the subject and your insights. Well done :)
