    Great video! I love your setup. I’m curious how you record your ATEM mini multi cam footage while connected to OBS? Another question, how did you mount your touch screen displays into your desks?

    • @TheBunkhouseStudios
      @TheBunkhouseStudios 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@CrazyRainbowHippie thanks! This is an old setup now, but those touchscreens were held in place by just resting on pieces of wood attached to the side pieces. The atem mini setup runs through a box that blackmagic makes that allows you to take the network stream output and convert it to hdmi. That hdmi output then runs to a hdmi to usb capture card into OBS. That way you can use the usb c output still for direct video recording to an external drive.

    I've always hated vinyl records, even when I was a kid, that is why I tried to make a tape recorder in the fourth grade, I didn't succeed obviously, but at least I tried! The ticks, and pops, plus surface noise, and the eccentricity of vinyl records drove me (when I had enough money), to purchase a used teak A1500U, reel-to-reel tape recorder, but I could easily still hear the difference between "source and tape", the dreaded tape hiss. In 1978 as an engineering consultant for the "Great American Sound Co., I traveled to Japan to visit GAS dealers and the Tokyo Electronics Show. In the Sony booth at that show, I saw for the first time, a model PCM-1, 12-bit digital processor playing music from the video track displaying thousands of black and white, undulating bits on the monitor, from the same SL-8200 Beta max VCR I had at home, I had to own one of these! In 1983 I attended an AES meeting featuring Marshall Buck who was presenting his new "coaxial two-way" loudspeaker he had designed for Cerwin-Vega! In his demonstration he was utilizing a "vocal-only" recording of a female singer that sounded fantastic with an incredible "dynamic range" and no background hiss. Immediately after Marshall's demonstration, I walked up and asked him what equipment was playing back his recording of this singer? He pointed to this diminutive silver box, and said I'm using a Sony PCM-F1, 16-bit Digital Audio Processor and a VCR. I said how much for the PCM-F1. He said $1,500.00, and I said sold! I built a portable recording rig that included the PCM-F1 and other custom-made equipment that I utilized for various musical performance recordings made on location and I won an Emmy for an outdoor performance of the opera Faust! I've been a digital advocate ever since, if you wish to learn more about my current endeavors, search TH-cam with the following: "JBL SYNTHESIS CREATOR", and ALSO: "HOWTOHOMELIFE". If you have questions, feel-free to call me @ 818-314-7275 Pacific time. David Riddle

    I actually never expect live events to Sound like the record (and j am very suprised when they do)... But i am so frustrated by having to guess what song is played at the Moment because everything is just basically white noise while the bass trying to CPR me... Now that you mention it i see some of the reasons that make it challenging to get live music Sound right, but still I wonder: can't you just turn the bass drum a little less loud so i can hear the damn guitar solo?

    • @TheBunkhouseStudios
      @TheBunkhouseStudios 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Michaah yes, in most cases you can. Having the kick drum loud with lots of low end is definitely a trendy thing in the last decade or so. It's often overdone. There are factors though like with single point source PA systems where the engineer further back in the room will have the low end balanced where they're stood, but it will be more overpowering stood closer to the PA stacks. That's unavoidable without line array systems as that's just how a speaker works - the closer you are to it the louder it will be.

    Thanks for acknowledging this. It's an absolutely ridiculous and upsetting situation, and one of those sad, nonsensical, supposed "norms". It would make much more sense for appropriate sound levels to be used, than to have to wear ear plugs. None of the music events I went to before 2019 were too loud, in 2019 I went to one that was too loud and two that weren't, but the music events I went to in 2021 and 2023 were both too loud. Could it be the case that my perception of what's too loud has changed. or has the situation just been more of a thing recently?

    • @TheBunkhouseStudios
      @TheBunkhouseStudios 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't say gigs have necessarily gotten much louder. I've worked in live events for over a decade now and I would say they have always been just as loud. Small venues are the biggest challenge. I think people these days also expect a concert to sound like a record with perfect clarity and intelligibility between instruments which just isn't possible - especially in smaller venues, which are often acoustically untreated rooms with loud PA systems to compensate and loud instruments like drum kits and guitar amps on stage. There's no simple solution and part of it is just down to physics and acoustics - gigs will always be loud. There's also the way our hearing works with the fletcher munsen curve that means louder music sounds more exciting to us. People want it loud, but then will also complain about hearing damage. There's also situations like with night clubs where it would just not work if the music was at a comfortable low level. New technology is emerging all the time though and speaker designs are improving all the time which will help combat these issues.

    I would go as far as saying it's a Poorman's Eventide. I bought mine for $149 15 years ago brand new, and my only criticism is I didn't buy 2. *It's also a bit extreme for some needs as well where you need a delay, a modulation or a reverb, but you don't need 20 parameters to adjust.* For this reason, I bought 2 Virtualizer Pros, and they have moderate parameter controls, and are ideal for using on a guitar amp's effects loop or when you don't want to spend an hour programming a reverb or modulation for some vocals or an acoustic guitar. I greatly see the Rev2496 as a piece of studio gear to put on your mixing board's loop, mastering through your board or pursuing a commercial quality recording. *With all that said, PC's and even Android tablets provide so much now that a $100 tablet can genuinely replace the powerhouse rack units still on the market today.* Even 20 years ago I talked to a lot of other musicians online that constantly used the phrase, "just mouse it", meaning add your effects with your DAW after the fact.

    • @TheBunkhouseStudios
      @TheBunkhouseStudios 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, I must admit it can be easier and quicker to pull up a plugin when wanting to dial in a reverb quickly. The interface on the rev2496 is a little clunky and slow. I don't think I'd ever get rid of it though and would recommend it as a useful tool to anyone mixing in the studio

    • @JonDeth
      @JonDeth 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheBunkhouseStudios I haven't used it in so many years I forgot how lol. There have been quite a few unites over the last 20 years with poor control system designs. Zoom had some of the best interfaces with great simplicity in operating them even on the most in depth units, but even their G5 for guitar which is my favorite modeler/FX unit to date was a nightmare. The virtualizer pro, on the other hand, is so simple you can master it in 5 minutes without even looking at the manual.

    • @TheBunkhouseStudios

    The idea is that the signal can be decoded using DSP and HRTF to earbuds. If that's the case you can make an equal argument you can do a pretty good simulation with some nice headphones. I would rather buy some nice headphones than add a silly load of speakers around my studio.

      So far the general consensus that I've been getting is that it's difficult to get good results mixing in Atmos in headphones. It makes sense to me that the best mixing environment would be a full Atmos rig, but then that becomes a huge stumbling block for most engineers.

      Even though it has its issues (I guess anything does though) it still hands down will always have the best workflow and editing for me. Tried many other DAWs and none have ever clicked quite the way pro tools does. Luna does look interesting though!

    Not a backing track but live orchestra back then Audience was quiet till the end. Live performance with live orchestra was the norm. Audiences were respectful up to time of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan Show when the audience went nuts screaming, ruining the TV performance, and visibly surprising Ed. (Quickly became the normal background for shows, which ended my own interest in such shows. FM started providing popular music in addition to classical ) Every network had a superb orchestra for their shows, likely more than one

    The bass is not a Fender P, it's a Lakland 44-60 which is a higher end Fender Jazz copy. You can tell by their oval bridge and headstock. From the tone, you can tell that the bridge pickup is being somewhat favored.

    Excellent video. Spot on. I get the tactile aspect of records but the muppets who funnel placebo through their ears....it's horse poo

    Terribly WRONG in your assessment, Bobby Hatfield was NEVER NERVOUS, this is a HEAVENLY PERFORMANCE WITH A SUPER INCREDIBLE GUY AND VOICE DRESSED PERFECTLY. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG EVER SUNG.

      You are the one who is wrong. According to Bobby, he was always nervous.
