I am reading a book called Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life.
These are the practices I follow while reading:
𝟭) I start with books that are easy to understand and written in simple language, which offer practical lessons I can implement in my life. Over time, I may progress to more complex books, but initially, I focus on this approach without feeling ashamed.
𝟮) I am a slow reader and do not believe in fast reading because I aim to learn and learning is a slow process. I don't see the point in reading ten books a month if you remember only 1% and implement 0% of what you read. I believe in reading even just one book thoroughly and retaining and implementing more than 80% of its teachings.
𝟯) For every chapter, I make short notes in my own words, summarize the chapter, and list points I can implement. After completing the book, I review the key points and decide which ones I can integrate into my life.
Many people can’t able to read books because of these reasons
𝟭) Attention span: I am proud to say that Gen Z's average attention span has become shorter than a goldfish's-9 seconds for a goldfish and 8 seconds for Gen Z, according to Blavity Inc. An attention span is the duration a person can focus on a task without getting distracted. For anything you want to achieve in life, having a short attention span will lead to failure and unhappiness. Reels are emblematic of short attention spans. This is why I dislike social media reels.
If you focus on yourself, you will understand the fact that you are not controlling social media; social media controls you. This is a problem. Today, a large part of Gen Z will feel like they're dying if they don’t have access to a mobile phone. It's not like I don’t use social media, Like everyone, I enjoy social media and games to unwind after a focused workday. The key is using them for relaxation, not letting them become a distraction during work or learning time.
Because of short attention spans, only a few will reach this part. If you do, comment "2+4".
Try reading book pages; most people will feel the urge to stop and check social media. Their hands might shake, and they may feel suffocated, similar feeling people feel while quitting smoking or drugs.
I also felt this at first, but I made a plan and achieved my goal. This plan is long and includes how I developed most of my habits and skills. I will share my plan in a later post.
𝟮) Reading: A large number of people don't know how to read effectively.
