51:51 I don't know who was talking during this part, but man was that the most helpful way I've heard someone describe how to effectively fast without feeling like complete crap afterwards, especially since I'm now making a commitment to better monitor my physical health
@@WaywardFanboy that was Milo talking about how to prepare for fasting!
I find it really interesting how you guys use day to day activities like fasting, working out and going to church service as a means to demonstrate effective spiritual discipline since it really is kinda liking building muscle and strength over time and the need to maintain it through discipline. I was thinking about it and actually thought how building a strong relationship with God is almost similar to the way you build a relationship with a friend. It's kind of like if one says, "I'm really close with this person," but you only talk to them during school hours or church and never hang out with them outside of settings, how well do you actually know this person? Now, if that same person hangs out with them regularly and really gets to know them, they deepen that friendship beyond surface level. I think of a relationship with God in the same way by often telling myself that if I'm going to have a strong relationship with Christ, then I need to "hang out" with Him more and engage in His word and be around other like-minded people who also engage and act on His word.
I can totally get Joey's claim that "anime is an acquired taste" cause it initially wasn't my thing either. I do think you guys are right in that you have to find the right anime series to start off with before hitting some of the big leagues like "Attack on Titan" (which by the way, the smiling Titan in ep 1 gave my horrific nightmares the first time I saw it!). I think my first ever anime was called "The Devil is a Part-Timer" and it was quite the experience watching that for the first time - actually wait! I think my first ACTUAL experience to anime wasn't even an anime series, but the Attack on Titan Abridged parody, but yeah, I think it's one of those you have to find the right one to start off with before you can really get hooked on it
You guys are Pokemon fans?! Definitely sticking around now ;)
@@WaywardFanboy absolutely!
Going back and listening to all the episodes from the beginning! Spiritual disciple was a really good topic to start off on cause I know I certainly struggled with this initially. I really like that you guys dug into leaning into discomfort and accepting being uncomfortable as that's truly how we grow and become better over time, especially when it comes to building a strong relationship with God.
@@WaywardFanboy that’s awesome! Glad you are enjoying the episodes! We need to get uncomfortable in order to grow and learn. Spiritual disciplines are a great way to do that!
You know, if you guys are Terminator fans, you gotta check out the TV series they had called "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." It lasted 2 seasons and takes place after Terminator 2 in a different timeline that ignores all the other movies after T2 and really delves into some powerful themes on destiny, fate, personal autonomy and the human spirit
This is a tough one cause honestly, I think most fictional universes would be terrible to live in for so many reasons. That said, I might have to go with "The Hunger Games" universe for me personally cause that universe seems most likely to become a reality in the next few centuries I believe, especially given the trajectory in which our world is heading in right now. Just the thought of living in poverty and having no sense of safety despite being promised by the government that there is safety and equality is a terrifying thought for me
For me, I tend to find that being generous with my time is more challenging than being generous with money. In particular, it was challenging for me to be generous with my time when it comes to people that I don't know very well when I was younger. For example, I recall back in my high school days when I was on an IEP and had academic challenges, I would frequently be around mentally challenged classmates with special needs who needed extra interpersonal support than a typical high schooler. I was frequently encouraged by my teachers to hang out with them during school because they needed support, but I was hesitant to give my time to those people since I was so fixated on only wanting to give my time to the popular kids. I was so concerned with how I was going to be perceived by my high school peers if I didn't affiliate myself with the popular crowd because I didn't want to be viewed as a "loser" by affiliating with the not-so-popular crowd. It wasn't until I reached my early 20s on how selfish I was at that time. I think it really runs true to what you guys said in this episode too, that it seems much easier to be generous with time and money when it comes to people you already know as opposed to someone you don't know very well. There were 2 verses I read in particular that I reflected heavily on when it came to generosity. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 - "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." - this really helps remind me that our generosity and how we give best reflects God's character James 2:1-4 - "My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, 'Here’s a good seat for you,' but say to the poor man, 'You stand there' or 'Sit on the floor by my feet,' have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?" - this verse really helped me realize there should be no favoritism when it involved generosity and providing support and resources to others
My gosh! You guys are hilarious when it comes to thinking of the worst superpowers you can think of for a superhero! This is so fun I think I'll even give it a go! Let's see here... So, this superhero's power will be flying, but unlike normal flying where the hero can defy gravity like we see in typical superhero movies like Superman, this superhero can only fly by exerting excessive energy. For example, we as humans are capable of sprinting, but we don't do it very often because of how quickly we get tired and then we just stop sprinting entirely. So in this case, this superhero can technically fly, but has to exert so much energy in order to do so. The downside to this however is that say if he runs out of energy and has no more energy and stamina to continue flying and he's already hundreds of feet in the air, he'll just free fall to his death since he's out of energy and can't exert more energy to continue flying. His name will be Larry and his superhero alias will be The Human Rocket. His backstory will be that he starts off as just an ordinary guy working at a local fast-food joint, famous for his ability to making the fastest burgers in town. One day however, while mixing a questionable batch of energy drinks and leftover fryer grease, he accidentally spills it all on himself, with him also accidentally swallowing some of the mixed chemicals. Rather than calling poison control, he decided to take a nap in the break room. When he wakes up, he finds himself with the incredible ability to fly…well...kind of. Larry CAN technically fly, but only by exerting enormous amounts of energy, very similar to the way an amateur high schooler would sprint on the track team until they run out of energy and need to resort to walking or sitting down. While most superheroes soar through the skies with ease, Larry’s “flying” looks more like an out-of-control rocket with a faulty engine. He can take off and stay airborne for MAYBE 10-20 seconds, before he exhausts all his energy and plummets back to the ground. Gravity is his arch-nemesis. The second he runs out of steam, down he goes. His energy depletes faster than a smartphone on 1%. Once he’s out, he’s out, and his “landing” strategy mostly involves hoping that there’s something soft to crash into. So in other words, he relies on A LOT of prayer! Like a A LOT of it! What's funny is that Larry is as optimistic as he is oblivious. He genuinely believes he’s the world’s greatest superhero simply because he believes that all the best superheroes can fly, despite all evidence to the contrary of his belief. His catchphrase is “Watch me soar!" and it usually is followed by a scream as he face-plants into a building. He’s got a heart of gold, but his brain… well, let’s just say it’s not his strong suit. Larry’s overconfidence often leads him into situations he’s woefully unprepared for. For example, one time, when he was first starting out as a superhero, he tried to rescue a cat stuck in a tree. He managed to fly up to the branch, but before he could grab the cat, he ran out of energy and fell into a thorn bush. Yet, the cat is still in the tree. Larry’s nemesis is most definitely a tough one to deal with as well. His greatest enemy is called The Stairmaster, a villain whose sole power is to create endless flights of stairs. Stairmaster loves to taunt Larry, The Human Rocket, by trapping him on the top of tall buildings. Larry’s ability to fly is rendered useless after a few steps, leaving him huffing, puffing, and ultimately calling for a ride home. Needless to say, he has yet to defeat Stairmaster...maybe he needs to pay Happy Hogan a visit on Earth-616? Or team-up with all your guy's "heroes?" Yeah...I'm kind of a hardcore nerd for this kind of thing hehehe! Hopefully this gave you guys a good laugh!
10:09 Oh my goodness! Talk about the best worst timing for the theater to go lights out! Honestly, if the same thing happened to me when I first saw Infinity War, I would've just froze in disbelief in that theater for like 20 minutes! Like imagine if the film just continued playing in the background and then when the theater monitor automatically came back on after a few minutes, all you see are the remaining Avengers grieving over their deceased friends after the snap! Ohhhh...just the thought of that makes me shutter!
As a hard-core fan of the superhero genre, I ABSOLUTELY love this! I literally grew up on ALL things superheroes whether it's Marvel, DC or Power Rangers!! Let's see...as far as my own top 3 MCU movies (I'm only counting the MCU movies that take place in the main universe on Earth-616) I would say... #1: Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings (I know this isn't a popular opinion, but being Chinese-American, this movie really was a major stand-out to me! Plus, Hong Kong legend Tony Leung as Wenwu/The Mandarin is EASILY gave one of the best actor performances in the MCU thus far! Not to mention, this movie had EVERYTHING going AGAINST it. For one, you have NO bankable stars, Awkwafina might be the only potentially bankable star there and that's not saying much. Second, Shang-Chi is a super obscure character that almost knows about. Three, this movie came out post-Endgame where I'm sure a good chunk of people already hopped off the MCU train; and four, this movie came out in the midst of COVID, it's a miracle the movie still was successful enough in the box office and positively received by both fans and critics alike) #2: Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol. 3 (ALL THE FEELS!!) #3: Avengers: Endgame Honorable Mentions: #4: Spider-Man: No Way Home #5: Avengers: Infinity War ("Why is Gamora" had me rolling!) #6: Captain America: The Winter Solider As for the Disney+ TV shows, cause I still consider them to be just as important as the movies, my top 3 are: #1: Loki (Their season 2/series finale was fire! So freakin' good! Plus, O.B. has won my heart over!!) #2: WandaVision (This would be at #1 on this list if the finale wasn't as weak as it was) #3: The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special That said, if we're talking about Marvel movies/shows as a WHOLE across ALL universes, this would be my list: #1: Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings #2: Spider-Man 2 (Sam Raimi's version) #3: Logan #4: Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol. 3 #5: Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse #6: Avengers: Endgame #7: Spider-Man: No Way Home #8: Avengers: Infinity War #9: Captain America: The Winter Soldier #10: Loki Also, SHOUT-OUT to Insomniac's 2 Spider-Man games on the PS4 and PS5! Those games deserve recognition too!
I feel really compelled to add to the dialogue to what you guys talked about at the end regarding doubting faith and questioning on whether God is working in your life or not cause I know that I've definitely seen that happen very often, both in other people's lives and especially in my own life when I used to reject God as far back as I could because of the bitterness and hatred I had towards Him because of the awful and challenging things that I had to endure. What I feel that can't go understated is when people often say that God will "walk with you," it doesn't mean that it's going to be like "BAM! He will remove all your obstacles in a pinch" if you pray to Him about your life struggles, but rather that He will put you towards a path that will contain many trials and hardships to build resilience so that the next time you come across those same challenges, you will be able to thrive through those challenges. I kind of think of it like the same way a therapist will "work with you" in therapy over time. It doesn't work where the therapist will magically cure your depression, anxiety of panic attacks, but rather the therapist will "walk" with their client over time to build their strength back to be able to thrive through the next life challenge that they are faced with. I absolutely LOVED the insight you guys brought into the episode and it's especially heartwarming to see Ethan be so vulnerable and honest with his own struggles with mental health.
"Greater freedom in the unknown and being like, I don't know what's next but I trust you Lord" (44:27) - Whoa! Now that hits hard! As someone who works as a mental health counselor, I think it's quite distressing when we see people so focused on achieving a certain outcome and sadly lose sight of the here and now. I often reflect on the many different ways people approach life. For example, plenty of people that I've met over the years have become so fixated on certain tasks they feel that they NEED to complete in the hopes of achieving an outcome that isn't even guaranteed and when they don't get the outcome they expected, they fall into a dark void because they've put all their energy and resources into those tasks rather than trusting and surrendering to the Lord and acknowledging that yes, while the unknown can be scary, the Lord will lead you to the correct path. Really powerful insight there!
So I recently discovered this podcast only cause I saw that my good pal Ethan is on it and man, his story and the topics you all discussed regarding ministry, missionaries, human connections/relationships, community, trust and faith was all very inspiring, empowering and uplifting! You guys earned yourself a new subscriber (your 118th subscriber)! Keep up the great work!
@@WaywardFanboy Ethan made a great first guest for the podcast! Thank you so much for supporting us, we really appreciate it! Ethan has such a powerful story/testimony and I’m so glad he was able to share it with all of us!
Great episode, guys. Several comments: Brandon and Milo, Luke has 2 aunts who are from the Philippines. Encourage them to listen and you’ll have two more listeners from that background!!! Joseph, mighty proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and to obey God when He prompted you to share a little bit of yourself by loving on a stranger who probably needed the love of God (through you) and to be shown that other human beings do care. Kudos to you for doing the heavy lifting. Personally I struggle with the parable of the widow. To think she gave EVERYTHING! Women in that time period relied on their male relatives to support them. Because she gave her last few coins tells me that perhaps she had no relatives alive to provide for her. That takes HUGE faith to give it all. I must admit; I am so not there yet. Work in progress, I guess. I can’t help but compare that passage with Proverbs 6:16 which states go to the ant, thou sluggers; consider her ways, be wise.. I always thought we were to be wise like the ant and work hard in the summer and store up food for the winter type of thing. After rereading and studying this, some commentators such that we are to work hard now for God’s kingdom here on earth so we can rest (during the winter) in eternity. I tend to be practical, so I always thought we are to work hard now so that we have enough in our senior years so we’re not a burden on society later on. So, needless to say, your podcast has helped me to question certain values and attitudes and has caused me to probe and dig into the Word on the topic of money, time, and retirement. Thank you gentlemen for keeping this listener accountable! PS Prov 6:16 and even the parable of the Rich Fool would be great future topics! PSS. Fun fact: did you know that and any can lift 20-50 times its body weight? If a man could lift just 20 times his body weight, he’d be able to lift approximately 4,000 pounds!!!!! Blessings -Annavin

Thank you for sharing the verse! Generosity is not always easy, and we all have areas in our lives that we can work on being more generous. Little by little!

1 Thessalonians 5:14-24 KJV [14] Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. [15] See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. [16] Rejoice evermore. [17] Pray without ceasing. [18] In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. [19] Quench not the Spirit. [20] Despise not prophesyings. [21] Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil. [23] And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. [24] Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
I'm the decades I spent in Christian Ministry, rarely heard anyone discuss their faith from a concept of the glass half full. It was almost always glass hand empty. Sadly, Evangelicalism has caused people to view themselves quite negatively and only God's process ideologically good. No one is listening to all the positive statements Good is making about His children.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruits. What are you going to do with this?
Catholic pedo preists?
Our best ISNT good enough. ONLY God in us is good enough. Die to our flesh, deny ourself and take up our Cross daily. Count the Cost. It COSTS to follow Christ. If it DOESNT cost you what YOUR FLESH wants, you arent following Jesus. I died and its Christ who lives in and through me.
So true! There is nothing we can do that will ever be good enough! But by the death of Jesus on the cross, and the grace of God, we can now have the opportunity to pick up our crosses daily, follow in the foot steps of Christ, and have eternal life with God!
No manmes!

I do like your willingness to talk about the weird passages. Even the parts that are uncomfortable for our modern culture. It is good. I noticed you had talked about how we shouldn’t get caught up in the weird details too much though especially if you’re reading the Bible for the first time. It sounds similar to what pastor Andy Stanley said about “unhitching” from the Old Testament and focusing evangelism on Jesus. I also noticed you mentioned that God wants us to prosper, but I wanted to clarify that you aren’t talking about a prosperity gospel sort of prosperity. Is that correct?
Hey Guys, Listened to your first podcast and have a few comments. Wow! So very excited that you thought of doing this. I will continue to pray that God will direct your thoughts and topics and that many lost and broken will be reached and others already on the journey will be challenged and find fellowship and connection through your sessions together. Here are just a few of my thoughts: Brandon: Psalm 23. Great passage to memorize. If you want to dig deeper, I recently completed a Bible study with a business group that focused on Psalm 23. How awesome is that? A bunch of business people who gather in a networking atmosphere to keep each other accountable and bring more Christ like attitude and behavior into their every day business practices. Cool, hey?! So the book we studied is, “ Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table” by Louie Giglio. Loved the baby step idea of implementing a new habit. Instead of getting up 30 minutes early each morning, starting with 5 minutes and increasing the time gradually usually is more sustainable. Wes: I agree with Milo; don’t give up what you enjoy. Take your habit to God in prayer and seek His wisdom. God may want to use your skills and passion for video games to start a conversation with someone and make a connection with someone who hasn't started a relationship yet with Christ or who is on the journey just like you. You don’t need to know all the answers, just a desire to love God and love people. Use your video games to reach others! All: (Discipline) Find your happy place and little chinks of time throughout your day to praise and thank God. Luke can tell you that my “happy place” is in nature. Wes’s is video games, Joseph’s is rocks. Whatever it is. I just know that when I’m in nature, I can’t help but thank God and praise Him that I have my eyesight to see the beauty of the sky and trees and can smell the blossoms, feel the sun on my skin, that I have arms to paddle my kayak and legs to hike, and am amazed that the stars don’t fall out of the sky. I sometimes will even pull out my phone and find a praise verse and memorize it when I’m hiking etc. Finding time with God: A number of years ago I started the habit of praying on my drive into work and lifting up my work needs, sale goals, work relationships etc. on the drive home I often focused in the praise and thankfulness of that same work day. Having little conversations throughout the day has helped me grow closer to God. Ive been trying to do have these conversations at odd times: when i first wake up, while i brush my teeth, driving, doing chores, etc Another spiritual discipline I’m constantly working on is turning my complaints into praise. For example, instead of grumbling that I have chores like vacuuming or dishes, I’ve been trying to remember to thank God that I have food to put on the very plates I’m washing and the means to pay for that food, thank Him that I have a house to vacuum and thank Him for providing me with so many things- you get it. Wow- that was long-but now you know I was listening. Hope this helped. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next podcast. All of you young men are an inspiration to us ‘old’ folks! Blessings.
Thank you for the comments, words of encouragement, and prayers! We love hearing feedback and questions that people might have. These are all great habits/disciplines that we can all be working every day! Glad you enjoyed the first episode, because there will be plenty more on the way!

Does evolutionary theory disprove the Bible?
Thanks for the question! First, there are well meaning Christian theologians that affirm the inerrancy of the Bible but interpret the genre Genesis 1-2 as non-literal. If they are right and if we assume that modern evolutionary theory is correct, evolution could have been the means that God used to differentiate life. Second, if there is good evidence that God exists and Jesus died and rose again (which there is), evolutionary theory would seem to have relatively little significance as to the truth of the Bible and the truth Christianity. Evolution and the issue of life's origins is an important question, but it is not a question that is critical to the truth of Mere Christianity as CS Lewis would frame it.
@@CampfireCouncilPodcast I love that answer. Thank you!
You mentioned Satan, fallen angels, and Nephilim. How do they fit into the story and why would God create them if He knew they would be so evil?
Black widow is a snooze fest.
10:14 some would say they're his "PHONE homies" 😂😂
