We provide video produced for the Indigenous Bridges programs of the ATAYAL organization. ATAYAL is an American 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in Florida in 2001. The mission of the organization is to share indigenous cultures and connect indigenous peoples around the world.
Austronesian Language Introduction - Tao Tribe - Orchid Island, Taiwan
We interviewed a young man from the Tao tribe who lives on Orchid Island (Lanyu), who agreed to share a little of his native language. Taiwan has 16 indigenous Austronesian languages that are actually taught in public schools to indigenous students. On Orchid Island, most local people speak this language, which is very similar to the language of the Ivatan people of the Northern Philippines.

Hello Northern Neighbor from Tao Eat in your language is koman, for us tagalog its kumain (to eat) but the root word is kain. In ilocano we say it as mangan already a root word also. koman and kumain is somehow similar. the rest are still similar and some are different.
It's worth pointing out that Miaoli (苗栗) is Mandarin Chinese, not Atayal.
