This channel is about my love of inline skating.
I skated as a kid, burning through stoppers and wheels until there was nothing left! Those days were awesome!
Around 2008 I purchased a decent set of inline skates. I enjoyed rolling them but felt I wasn't good enough to do what I wanted on them, and felt a bit self conscious at almost 30! I dabbled, but didn't really get into it the way I'd hoped to, until recently, 10 years later!
In 2018 I took my kids to a skatepark. Never one to stand and watch, I donned the skates again. Taking inspiration from the online skate community, I decided to start my own channel.
I've never been the conventional type. The idea of growing old and slowing down doesn't compute with me.
You need to be sensible and respect your body, but that doesn't mean you stop playing just because you've reached a certain age.
For me, it's a combination of: movement, nutrition, rest, and self-awareness.
Move, play, know yourself, and be happy.

Absolutely! 👍

🙏 Gracias!
its exausting to have to plan your entire way, feels like playing a videogame with your feet.
Exactly! 😀
I used to cycle and run. I still cycle but mostly for errands, commuting, to get to my favorite skating spots, and recon/recce potential new skating spots! I stopped running because it's giving me acid reflux and also gave me shin splints. My shin splints are gone. Healed on its own. But I'm not going back to running. Cycling is still the least problematic. But skating is the most fun!
What’s song is it ?
Perfect ride!
Pozdrawiam z Polski . P.s jesteś z Anglii ?

Why does the parrarel slide and power stop look like the same trick to me, is it the same thing? I've watched Bill Stoppard's videos and still don't get it.
@@cosmos7engineer Yes, they are very similar. My understanding is that the power stop is meant as a stop not a slide. Sliding will naturally occur but this should not be the goal, and skates don’t need to be parallel. The parallel slide is an actual slide, skates should be parallel and the goal is to actually slide. The entry to both is similar, though for parallel slides, I try to let my outside skate lead a little more.
@@RichHayterSkater I think youtube just didn't post another comment, I'll need to redo it some other time. :)

@@Wellpatins Thank you! 🙏 🙌
Which would you recommend mf500 vs mf900? And why?
@@andym2097 It depends… for beginners, MF500 because 4x80 is easier to learn with. For commuters, those who care about skating for mileage, or who are already experienced with a 4x80 setup, the MF900 would be a good option. Personally, I have both and love both!
the over pro camera man
Yeah, he has mad skillz! 😁👌
The overall size should fit me, but the helmet is too narrow for my head. Has anybody widened that thing?
🔥Trying this as soon as the snow clears.
Be patient, and try to commit to working on your stride every time you go out and skate, it’ll pay dividends. 👌
I always enjoy to your skating 🔥🔥🤗🤗
Thanks Matey! 🙏😁
The Oxelo's are great 👍🏻
Yeah! They work for me! 😁
I don’t understand how you get the speeds you do. I have a pair of k2 80 boa skates and cannot get close to the pace you have on your videos. Do I need a new setup or is it just a case of increasing leg strength?
It’s probably due to technique than leg power. It’s amazing how technical tweaks can improve your pace and help you maintain momentum. It’s all about working with your edges, and trying to get more confident on that outside edge, specifically. I made a short several months back, detailing 3 ways to improve your stride, might be worth checking out it out. 👍
A-mazing
Thank you, Amigo! 👊

Upon reflection, the power slide is likely one of the most reliable, most accessible, and safest of all the stops available. To continue off my previous comment, I've been drilling the power slide the past couple days and noticed there is a very healthy margin of error. Even when you don't get it perfectly, you still have that support leg anchoring you while the other one slides. Other stops have their notable drawbacks, i.e., especially the riskier ones where both feet are sliding simultaneously (parallel slide, power stop) or won't stop you fast enough (soul slide, t-stop). The power slide is such a clean winner in my opinion.
@@rcfong79 My thoughts exactly. The power slide acts as an extension of my power stop, If I feel unstable I can simple push out into the power slide for stability. As a stop, it’s less effective than the power stop, magic slide, or parallel, but it’s easier to learn, requires less skill, and offers a nice blend of stability & efficiency most skaters will be comfortable with. I’ve be focussing on the Magic for a while now, and it’s quickly becoming a firm favourite! I’ll share more on this in the future.
@RichHayterSkater That’s such great perspective. And the idea of using the power slide as a way to bail out of a impending power stop failure….that’s brilliant 🙂. But you’ve been skating for a while now and this video is a few years old. Just curious - what stop were you using before power slide, magic slide, and power stop?
@rcfong79 Power stop was what I used most, and still do, I only learned to magic slide a year or so ago, and only recently have I progressed it to point where I’m comfortable enough to start using it on the fly. It’s a great stop!
@@RichHayterSkater yeah I saw you on that magic slide tutorial with @SkatefreshAsha . Great stuff. Her suggestion to place the hands to the side as if they were on a table top and then rotate off of that allowed me to learn it quickly. We skaters are blessed to have all of you excellent instructors! I gain a lot from each of your perspectives.
4 months, where you at :D
Busy busy! Will be back soon! 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Okay, you're alive. Relief..:)
Absolutely amazing tutorial. I’m only an intermediate skater that started 7 months ago. But your mention of the parallel turn as the basis for performing that second type of power slide was key for me in learning how to achieve it within 2 tries (I decided to go for that one first). Your explanations and detail are worthy of recognition. And of course you brought in Sub-Zero from the 90s - a nice blast from the past 😂. Happily subscribed - you are another inspiration (I found you via Bill Stoppard). I’ve learned a new stop today. Many thanks, Richard!
Hey thanks! 🙏 😁 I’m so glad you’ve nailed your Power slide! I was buzzed after I learning it, too! Keep practicing! Thanks for your comment! Tutorials take considerable time to produce, it’s always nice to hear they actually help!
@ I stayed up late at night just to try it, and I was so excited by the outcome, that I just kept practicing it for another nearly 2 hours. It was too much fun. All the credit to your good intentions of teaching the skills, technique, and what to look out for 😀. And your camera work makes it easy for us to follow. I know I’m going to learn a lot from you in this greatest sport of all. Thank you again from New Jersey, USA 🙂.
Nice
good!!!
Fantastic!
Thanks, Amigo! 👍😁
What's better? 90mm or 110? I just have a pair of 80mm.
Depends on the application, but for urban skating, I’d opt for 90s.
Thanks a lot for the answer, I tried once the 90mm and it was amazing, but I thought that maybe the 110-125 could be awesome around the city, 80mm it's cool, but I think 90 could be better and just bit faster. I'm not an expert, but that's what I think, but I'll forget about the 110-125 and get the 90mm. Later I'll get some 110-125 for any other special occasion. Thanks a lot and kind regards.
Sonic vs Shadow
😂
😮😮😮😮
Any tips on getting the front skate on outside edge easier for the second method? Do you put weight on the heel of the front skate to make it easier to pivot? My problem is the front skate can get caught when I turn. Doing it on smooth surface is fine though.
You gotta get really good with those parallel turns! Yeah, you need to be a bit lighter on the toe of the front skate - I probably explain these better in the Power Stop tutorial video I made, so check that out for more detail. 👍
@@RichHayterSkater Thanks for your reply
I bought these skates second hand for €50, they were used 1 time, so practically brand new, included arm/wrist/knee protection. Glad to see it was a good buy. Im skating again after 20yrs😎
Bargain! Enjoy! 👍
Just started, to sprint do i need to do rapid fire crossovers ?
No, you don’t need to, crossovers can take time to learn and use in practice. Learn the proper technique then work on speed. 👍
Wow!!!!😮
Like like like 😮
you're doing great with the posture, but you'll need to transfer more weight to the toes at the beginning of the slide, needs more push than other similar slides, but more delicate. Good luck 🤞🏻
Thanks! This is an old video now, my Magics have moved on a ton! 👍
Love my mf500’s! Sick video
Hey thanks! 🙏 Enjoy your MF500s!
@@RichHayterSkater Cheers. Replaced the frame with a FR Spin rockered frame last week. Much fun, less speed though.
Hi. What is black things on your feet?
Those are the liners! 😁
My sister almost bought zetrablades, so I told her Richard Hayter would rather you get Oxelo MF500 she had a 20 euro Decathlon credit so she got them for €80 plus the yellow Oxelo helmet. She's psyched! Thank you for that review video from a few years ago it's very useful for a lot of people👍✌️
And you would be correct -I always recommend the Oxelo MF500! And that helmet is also a very sensible purchase! I am glad you found it useful, and I hope she enjoys her new skates! 😃👍
😅.
Sweet ,💪 and those magics are 💯💯💯💯💯🔥
Thanks, Dude! 🙌
Nice skating, nice edit... Your jumps look stylish 😎
Thanks Amigo! 🙌
Hi Rich! Sick magic 👍
Thanks Amigo! 👊
Sir, do you wear thick terry socks as socks inside your skates? I have thick long socks, is it a problem if I wear them inside my skates?
I just use regular sports socks, I find they work just fine with this liner. 👍
Oh Türkiye, why don't you have such beautiful roads and city structures, damn it
I need a new city to skate!
i love jumping all tge time
Me too! 👍
Greetings from Brazil ! 🇧🇷 I also have an oxelo mf500 and I'm in love with it ! 🙌🏽
Awesome! Happy rolling, Amigo! 👊
I initially had the same problem even with the newer lighter green, all-white wheels version. I'm under-pronating with the 900 so I thought that might be the problem and adjusted the frame outwards 2 millimeters. That fixed the problem partially. Then I also very slightly loosened the bolts on the ankle support (The bolts with "MF900" printed on it. Don't loosen it too much, there must be some resistance remaining) which further solved the problem. Some ankle pain remained but after one week of use, the problem went away on its own. I have all the straps and the laces tight. I went from 4x80 skates to the 900 with 3x110 wheels. Getting used to the higher skates maybe a factor too.
Is it power stop?
Yeah, somewhere between a power stop and a parallel slide.
Can this skate tolerate one leg jumps and also landing on one leg? I figure the force would be twice than if you land on both legs and I weigh 55 kgs. I've been using the MF900 for off ice figure skating training. I've been doing one leg jumps on it like the waltz jump but want to make sure, it's not going to randomly break while doing so. My frame is not dead center of the mount. I moved the frame 3mm outwards to deal with underpronation. Thanks.
Hey, sorry, I’m not a figure skater, so all I can tell you is that this is a robust skate that has never failed me. Personally, I would have thought a skate with smaller wheels and lower centre of gravity might better mimic ice skating?
@@RichHayterSkater Thanks and I believe you are right. I just don't have budget for another skate with smaller wheels😅. I've been doing tons of one leg jumps on the 900 and no problems so far. It just takes getting used to from my smaller wheel skate that I've exchanged for the 900.
