Bikepacking the Baltic Sea Cycle Route in Germany along EV 10, Ostseeküsten-Radweg
The Baltic Coast in Germany offers scenic views, historic sights and good cycling. The Baltic Sea Cycle route (Eurovelo 10) follows the coast line around the complete Baltic Sea. The German part from Flensburg to Ahlbeck at the Polish border spans 1150 km including 300 km on Rügen. The video covers the part from Kiel to Rügen including the medieval Hanseatic cities of Lübeck, Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund for a tour in mid-July.

      We brought our own bikes, by car. If travelling in continental Europe you can take your bike on many trains, but unfortunately still not on the fast, long instance trains. Normal road bike gears are fine in general, but for the steepest part of the pass it was nice with a climbing gear, mainly to be able to go slow without being totally exhausted.

    Thanks for making this video! As a retired Canadian, I’ve cycled east to west across France on the Canal des Deux Mers with my wife, and north to south across the Netherlands and down to Bruges with my brother. For both trips, I booked self-guided tours through a cycle touring company that arranged the hybrid bikes, accommodation and usually also luggage transfer (instead of carrying our clothes in panniers). My brother and I loved Stockholm and the Stockholm Archipelago and have been considering cycling up the Kattegat from Malmo to Oslo, or along the Gota Canal, or a cross-country cycle like yours. Do you have a favorite long distance route in Sweden for the best combination of safety (cycle paths), scenery and accommodation (not tent camping)? Your route on this video looks pretty great! Do you know of any cycle tour companies through which we could book your favorite long distance route? I’d really appreciate any advice you could provide. Cheers!

    Thanks for posting this vid..! How many days do you estimate it takes to cycle from Donaueschingen to Vienna? (slow pace for pictures and that kind of thing...) And, would you recommend bringing a tent+sleeping bags for camping along the route or no?

    • @matsstading6128
      @matsstading6128 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m glad you liked it! We haven’t cycled Donaueschingen-Vienna in one go, but it’s almost 800km. If you cycle 50km per day you need 16 cycle days. We have cycled Passau-Vienna twice. First time at a leisurely pace with many stops and it took us almost a week. Second time we speeded through it in 3.5 days so it is really difficult to give advice on required time. But we warmly recommend this route.

      @matsstading6128 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is plenty of accommodation along the route, both camping, rooms and hotels. You don’t need to bring a tent. We have never booked ahead and always found a vacancy, but camping is of course less expensive.
