At my Ele. school, we had "Dolphin dollars". We could spend them at the book fair and stuff, too. It was pretty cool. And this was in the 90's.

I love the idea about rent and jobs. It gives them the real world. Too bad about no dojos. It gives the kids an idea if they are on target or not, and parents can see it

You made the best of what you were given. Thank you for sharing. I am teaching 2nd grade this year, too. I'm excited! It is MY grade. The grade I've taught the most and my student teaching grade. I hope you have a great year teaching the Class of 2035.

Put your pink, green and yellow wall next to the door where the bathroom is...I love the theme by the way.

A good start in a tiny room! But see if you can give each student an individual word wall print out instead of taking that whole wall for it. Don't put anything on the front of cabinets/doors. Your eye needs 30% of the walls to be clear so the brain can rest! Put jobs near the door so kids can see them coming in/going out.

I teach at a charter school,, too. I am also going to teach 2nd grade. Last year, I had 5th. I'm old. I have taught all the grades from kindergarten to middle school except 5th. But the people at my school see me as a 5th grade teacher. My principal came to me hesitantly to ask if I would teach 2nd grade. I wholeheartedly said yes. That is MY grade. It's the grade I had during student teaching. The one I had the first 5 years of my career, as well as a couple more years later on. My inner child is 8, so 2nd and 3rd grades are my wheelhouse. I have a combined 12 out of 29 years in those 2 grades. My baby is also going into 2nd grade. Congratulations and Best Wishes teaching the Class of 2035! 😊

I’m a 5th grade teacher in FL. I currently have 7 ESE students out of my class of 20. 3 of them are reading on a 1st grade level. My district doesn’t want to put anyone in separate class anymore so this is typical for any classroom.

I took over a class at the same time last year. Make it easy on yourself. Just leave as much that’s already there in place. Make changes in August. Just get through the rest of the year and don’t stress yourself out. Focus on the teaching and making it to the end.

Can you talk on how your district let you move . Did someone take your spot or it’s a sub only now.

We have long disability that we take out of our check but you must take it out your check so you can still get paid if you out sick for long period of time or have a baby you should look into that for next time so you can get paid . I’m in ms and we have it under American fidelity
