Rare Visayan tarictic hornbill chick born at Bristol Zoo Project
We're celebrating a double conservation success as two of the world’s rarest bird species, a pair of Mauritian pink pigeon, now classed as Vulnerable, and a pair of Endangered Visayan tarictic hornbill, have bred at the zoo.
The male hornbill chick, which hatched in May, has now fledged, enabling its mother to leave the nest box and resume normal activities. During the first two months of the new hatchling’s life, the mother must remain with them in the nest box, relying on the father to carry protein-rich food to feed her and the chick.

Wild Photo Competition with Wildlife Photographer Oliver Smart. Episode six
Are there still ones in the wild?
The species you're trying to identify is possibly a lab experiment that got away from Micheal Reese Hospital or one of their affiliates from California.
I would pay to come in and help feed or feed them, the money would pay for the food, I've visited the zoo 2 or 3 times a year for years.
Thank you for helping in the conservation of Philippine animals.
So cute ❤❤❤❤
Let me come and feed them 😁
Can’t wait to attend. Thank you Bristol zoo for hosting these events!
Bristol zoo project is a great place to fill the void
I miss the zoo so much. 😢
I’m confused, some of these clips appear to be from the Dutch zoo, Ouwenhands Dierenpark, where a very similar exhibit exists. I don’t doubt these are clips from Bristol, but I’ve just seen a video from the Dutch zoo and it looks identical…
Yes. Red pandas. Theyre my favourite animal
How old do you need to be?
Where this going to be on in the existing site?
“…quietly sharing the same space beneath the trees as they would have done in this country thousands of years ago.“ But even during those times in history, and even now in regions where their ranges overlap, they avoid each other! I mean, we’re dealing with MASSIVE wild areas. Compared to an enclosure…They generally AVOID one another in the wild. Even on a good day, carnivores don’t peacefully nap under the trees together. No carnivores really do that, anywhere. Even if it appears that way. They’re naturally competitive towards one another, as predatory species are. In the wild, if given the choice, most predators avoid other predators. A pack of wolves can kill a single bear. And a bear can kill a wolf too. It’s all been taped before. However, here, in a cramped enclosure, they can’t really avoid each other… which makes me think that’s bordering on cruel experiment… maybe it’s a “spacious” enclosure, but not when compared to the wild… to actual woodlands, where I can guarantee you, bears and wolves are NOT hanging out, sleeping “under the boughs of the willows and in amongst the heathers”. Lol. Not in India, not in China, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East, America, or anywhere else where their ranges overlap.
So cute. ❤😊
How to Join as volunteer?
thank you so much for this video!!
Which parts of Bristol will there be animals living? Cribbs? What about the place near town?
It’s by cribbs
Ssss
長頸鹿絕種其他物種不能倖免? Giraffes extinction other species no exception?
This is hella risky for a zoo. The brief footage they did show of the bear on its back surrounded by wolves - the bear looked pretty stressed! I'm not sure whether I ethically agree with this project.
Yeah it would maybe be cool if the enclosure were… 100 acres or something. Feels a bit like the Roman Coliseum, with exotic animals being pitted against one another… to see what happens.
I have been many times and almost every time the bears and wolves are incredibly relaxed and live in peace, but another great thing about wild place is every habitat is absolutely huge for the species housed in the habitat, it is by far my favourite zoo in the UK that I have been to and I thoroughly recommend a visit, don't judge it until you have been!
Beautiful video 🕊️
Awwww, the 100 acre wood.
Aww I went for my birthday!! I always come to see the wolves but the last 2x I went they were hiding!!
Looks like an amazing course!
GOALS!!!❤
Anime takes you to see some wild places and things I tell ya
𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚘𝚜𝚖 🤗
I've never heard of this. I can't believe they thought of doing this in Southern England, before (more of) Scotland, or even northern England.
its a theme park....not vild nature..............................
Hopefully one day Wolves will come back to Scotland. England probably is not good for them Wolverines and Lynxes can live in both. Bears? Maybe one day.
All fun and games till they leave 😂 that's how we got boars again
They're so beautiful! I hope we can one day see these stunning animals roaming our British countryside again through rewilding! I love the idea of 'bear woods' to educate and show the public our once native wildlife. It must be great to be able to see what England used to be like, and what it will hopefully be like again in the not too distant future! :)
Great Video but we should put these in the wild now with the Deer over populated and the Boar starting to do damage now and even the Beaver now populating even more we need these Alpha predators now more than ever.
Well Beavers still have a natural predator the Red Fox so they’re fine. But yeah Wolves and Lynxes defo need to come back in the Highlands and Forest of Dean well maybe just the Lynx for the Forest but still.
Great idea but it’s not that simple. Maybe we can start with the Scottish wildcat not going extinct, and maybe it will even expand its range once again further south. Oh wait, everyone’s pet cats wander around outside and can breed with them… so that’s extinct already. Lol. Maybe lynx should be reintroduced, that would be great, but I think too many people are scared of the possible damage to livestock, and will likely hunt the predators.
Foxes usually eat mice, voles, shrews, moles, rats, reptiles, insects, and anything small they can find. Of course, birds, chickens, etc. too. But they don’t necessarily like water and beavers are pretty big compared to a fox. Sharp teeth, very alert, and they slap the water with their tails to let all the other beavers know when there’s danger. I know that a lost or orphaned baby beaver on land would be an easy target for a fox…but a grown beaver, near the water?
This music doesn’t suit Geladas
Arthur will come again! Arthur is Celtic for bear. How can Wales or Scotland be whole without Arthur?
really?
You mean england?
@@snapclips3917 Yes and his father Uther is celtic bear name variant.
WTF would they do that 2 years after this:? th-cam.com/video/kU82sVd8EQQ/w-d-xo.html Total madness or blatant greed!
So are their any bears in this wood yet
Yes! They're amazing to see!
I have a question, the wolves and bears are in the same exibith? Didn't a wolf got killed by bears in a zoo? Is it really a good ideia to join this creatures since they are natural enemys? Loved the video but i'm kinda scared for the future of the wolves.
They get monitored so it’s fairly safe, and don’t have to compete for food in desperation as much since they get fed
Yes i saw that video footage. Tragic. Its a little cautious and risky, but ...BUT. Bears and wolves live in the same habitat in the wild, and as long as they are CLOSELY moniutored.
I went to wild place today. The wolves and bears were chilling together it was all good
👍👍
Any concerns that the bears might kill the other animals? It happened on Grouse Mountain in Vancouver.
um they dont generally house them with other species and if they do cohabit they generally do so with species that either leave each other well alone or are no threat to each other (I believe here they have wolves in with them and wolves by and large are too small to threaten an adult bear and too fast to be worried about bears eating them..... and if they eat the odd Pidgeon I doubt anyone is going to miss them.....
I’ve just re-watched this. Tom and Dayo look so tiny! Seeing them regularly ever since, I had forgotten how much they had grown!
You're not supposed to pull out the baby the Okapi supposed to give birth to it and it supposed to clean it and it is it's job
Is anyone having trouble watching this? It always freezes mid way.
Which species of zebra is this?
Thank you sooooo much! We had a wonderful day here. Thanks!
Bears wolves lynx and wolverines are awesome. I can't wait for them to get back to the UK.
James Howard yeah in a zoo🙄because they won’t be released in the wild unfortunately
@@KA47. Because they'll worry sheep otherwise
@@KA47. Not necessarily. That's an ongoing discussion at the moment, whether or not Lynx should be re-introduced to the British Wilderness and possibly Bears and Wolves later.
Lynx might be coming back and since Wolverines prefer colder places they might just put them back in the Mountains of Scotland
