You can check it every day if you like, but you must make sure that you do not contaminate the water (e.g. your hands and utensils are washed thoroughly, free from any oil or contaminants, etc.). I usually leave it out at room temperature, which is around 21-23C. If you leave it in the fridge, it may take a bit longer to complete the process. This depends on your climate conditions. I usually change the water 3-4x a day (this also lowers its temperature). If you live in a hotter climate, you may want to change the water more often or as you see fit. I boil the sea cucumbers, one or two times at the beginning (I let the boiling water cool down before changing the water and boiling it again the next day). Afterwards, I soak the sea cucumbers in cold water (changing the water frequently) until the process is finished.

You may be able to find the pivot cap in a store that sells mid-autumn festival lanterns. The pivot cap was given to me by a friend when they closed their store 20+ years ago. If you're unable to find it, I suggest that you substitute the pivot cap with another material

兔頭那個不是扣,只是用鐵線在筷子或竹枝上纏繞數圈,形如彈弓一樣,彈弓長度視乎燈籠大小而定,兔身頸部只是一條扭曲了而突出的直鐵線,將彈弓圈放進去便可,用熱熔膠固定.

It all depends on the quality and where you buy from, here in the US - they range from US $60 per kilo to couple hundred per kilo. all depends on quality and where the sea cucumber comes from.
