West Coast Main Line in 'N' (Episode 49)
Some more 'train watching' on the layout from the last couple of months, with the added non-DCC sound effects. As the video has been 'condensed down' in some of the scenes the signalling sequences aren't prototypical as some of the 'dead time' has been edited out.

The latest compilation of clips of the layout in action from the past week or so. The now usually non-DCC sound added to give the video a little atmosphere. Andy, absolutely excellent as usual. Would still like to reestablish contact. Colin 🙂
Excellent entertainment as always. I particularly like the new viewpoints!
What a cracking layout. It is just like the real thing, you wouldn't know any difference to the real thing. Superb all round. That's the beauty of N gauge, you can add so much to the layout without taking too much room. I used Kato track on my N layout, what did you use.
I used Peco Streamline flexi-track.
A good and interesting layout. Nice to watch ! 😊
Just found this channel, absolutely amazing !!
Thank you.
This has got to be one of the most realistic and entertaining model railways on social media. Thank you for another great running session.
Your layout is fantastic, great to full length trains at scale speeds. Do you have any particular things you do to keep your track clean?.
I use several things to clean the track, although by running the trains frequently helps keep the dust down. Here are some photos in the Layout's FB page. facebook.com/WestCoastSouthernSection/posts/pfbid02Wwrw8UKouryjvKMgADJpY6W5diJ6e2yJTdXWvnojThkHxWgfULE6XdWs1YGr4q3cl
@@MrGettingtooold Thanks much appreciated
Amazing railroad, thanks for sharing!
What a fantastic layout, full size trains, sound, scenery, nothing else you can do to make it better . Well done.
Many thanks!
I think this layout is my favourite of all time…. the modelling, the trains, the sound effects, just everything is so believable and enjoyable to watch… fantastic! ❤❤
What a wonderful layout, everything is spot on,love the sound effects, especially the tube trains, just like watching the real thing. Well done.
This layout is art. I love it
Thats well smart, is it based on any particular section.
It is based on three specific places on the West Coast Main Line, at Harrow & Wealdstone, Watford Junction, and Linslade.
Andy, very impressive and so nice to get a look 'behind the scenes' - Colin _Would still like to get back in contact_
This layout is so realistic I play your videos on large screen and it is exactly like being along side the WCML, back in the late 1970s. The variation in ambient and full train sound, in differing locations, is oustanding. Like the Tube stock and sound. There is some great layouts on TH-cam, but for me, your modelling is so creative and the running sessions are top of the game. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you like them!
You have built an incredible layout and great to see the views around the 5 min mark showing how it all fits in the space.
Thank you very much!
Just stunning! The best model railway video, I could watch it all day, and so realistic. Fab! ❤❤❤
EVERY canal is bordered by mature trees. It dates back to horse-drawn narrow boats, the trees protected the horses from getting over-heated. And the football match must lose a LOAD OF BALLS!

@@MrGettingtooold OK, I'll amend my post to, "There are of course, short stretches where there are no trees, nearly always where there are houses, and sites where there used to be warehouses. Interesting how the photos do show stretches of tree just around the bends, or in the distance".
Wow lost for words.
Absolutely fabulous. Just finished watching the video, nothing more I can say other than the best I have ever seen, Well done to you. Enjoy, as I will watching them all.
Wow, thank you!
I am only part way through this video, but I must leave a comment all ready. SUPERB. The beauty of N gauge is you can put the correct amount of rolling stock on each train,it makes it so more realistic, which yours is,you would think you were there in the real place. I had a lovely N gauge layout in my Garage, but unfortunately there ware a lot of spiders in my tunnels and they kept damaging my loco engines, hence I had to sell it off. So now your layout is mine to look at whenever I want. I will finish watching this and then go to the rest. Well done.
Incredible layout. Cleaning tracks without harming all that beautiful detail must be tricky....?
I have my own adapted train which consists of six wagons which have some 'Dust Devil' foam rubber pads which clip to the axles. Pushing the six wagons with a Loco usually suffices to clean day to day grime. Sometimes I put some Cleaning fluid on the pads of the two leading wagons which remove more stubborn patches of dirt
@@MrGettingtooold I found your track plan, I’m envious of all those staging tracks - do you have a video showing where they are. How you get ti them
@@johnwhatmore163 I don't have a particular video of the 'behind the scenes' storage area in action (perhaps I should ?), but this picture shows the Storage Sidings on one side of the layout. They run in Automatic mode most of the time so that a train arrives and sends the next one out. In the picture you can see the backscene boards are kept in place with some furniture brackets so the boards can be lifted out if anything needs looking at in the 'hidden' areas. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=849007393910334&set=pb.100064032432686.-2207520000&type=3
Wow, just found your video, absolutely superb. Sitting here watching trains go by On the WCML, in the BRITISH blue period is so realistic and enjoyable. You have captured the essence and atmosphere of the line and period. The tube trains add to the variation of trains. Great life long and running consists, you have captured it all. Thank you for sharing your creation.
Many thanks!
great layout
This is absolutely wonderful, hard to believe it's N scale. It just looks gorgeous and so suggestively real. Love the mix of freight, passenger and especially the Tube! Thank you very much for sharing this. Does me a world of good!
Glad you like it!
Hi, I've just found your videos, what an amazing layout. How long has it taken to build, if your like me, years and years? A very enjoyable watch, thank you so much..............Going to watch some more now! All the best Dave.
The layout was about five years in the planning stage, along with making some of the buildings before hand. It took around six to seven years to build, a lot of stuff having been reused off previous layouts. There are just over 10,000 pictures now on the layouts FB page at facebook.com/WestCoastSouthernSection
@MrGettingtooold oh thanks, I'll have a look at your fb photos. I like a layout which has evolved over many years. It's more like a living thing which grows as time moves on. Brilliant, thank again, Dave.
An amazing layout you have, always fantastic action.
Fantastic layout!
Andy, another enjoyable video - thank you! Colin
Fantastic views
I love the second shot with the railway between the field and the backdrop, excellent spot for the camera
Looks great, like the sound effects.
Brilliant layout - really captures the era
Andy, excellent as always. Colin 👍
Nice to see long trains running.
Hi, great layout, how did you produce the BOC tanks? I’d love a rake of them…… thanks! Simon.
The BOC Tankers were made by converting standard Farish TEA Tankers. Some photos showing the process can be found here facebook.com/photo/?fbid=902214643750380&set=a.142604599711392
Absolutely superb Andy with some excellent detail there - well done! ⚡ Particularly like the DC lines along with the subtle change between London Transport and London & Country buses. 👍 It would be nice to get back in contact although I am not on social media (etc). Kind regards, Colin
Excellent as always Andy. Pleased to see more to come. A very Happy New Year to you. Cheers, Bob
Thank you Bob, yes, still working on some more. It's a bit of a slow process to edit down the material, and on average a half hour video usually takes eight to ten days to get enough material together and splice it together with the sound track.
@@MrGettingtooold But so worth waiting for. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
Brilliant! How do you get your sound effects?
The sound effects come from a number of sources. Some recordings I made back in 1977 on a portable tape recorder. Around the same time I had a Sound Effects record, and I had transferred some of the railway sounds onto tape. Originally I had uploaded them onto my Laptop to play back through a pair of speakers to give a bit of added 'atmosphere' to running sessions. Later I found that by using 'Vegas 14 Movie editing' I could not only edit the video, but synchronise the various sound clips directly onto the video, sliding the sound clips along the timeline. Each 'overlay' can have the volume adjusted to try and even out the background noise. There are also now a few places on the Internet where you can get 'Royalty Free' sound downloads, which I might have a go at. Here's a photo of editing a video underway on my Laptop. facebook.com/photo?fbid=796811525796588&set=pcb.796818932462514
Great layout
Are your buses etc. the E F E 1:76 scale models ?
The buses are all Oxford Diecast ones.
Nice shot ! Judging by the traffic jams you'd be right to say "let the train take the strain !" 😂
Amazing how did you do your gardens very interested in that awesome layout 👍
The gardens were laid out on planks of balsa wood which were painted brown. Then static grass was added using PVA Glue. The fencing was made from corrugated plasticard to represent plank style fence, and small strips of plasticard stuck on to represent the posts, yes, a fiddly and time consuming task. There are some pictures here of the construction phases. facebook.com/photo/?fbid=138401723465013&set=a.138401533465032 Some of the garden accessories came from Harburn Hamlet models www.harburnhobbies.co.uk/acatalog/-N--Gauge.html The flower beds were made using brown scatter material, with various coloured scatter to represent flowers.
Amazing layout - have you had it featured in one of the monthly magazines? It’s outstanding. Where did you get your London Underground sets from - where they kits?
Thee Layout has been around now for nearly ten years. It has featured in Model Rail October 2017 Hornby Magazine November 2018 Traction Magazine September/October 2019 British Railway Modelling (BRM) April 2022 Underground News May 2022 It has also featured in the N Gauge Journal a few years ago. The Underground Stock was all scratchbuilt from plasticard motorised with Tomytec mechanisms. A few photos and descriptions can be found here facebook.com/WestCoastSouthernSection/posts/pfbid02iGwn62B2PBMF4ZsomBmSzaKkdoAxyqwQZvqBupQUVKkxdhxKWbd89xx4QjtrYxwVl The layout has its own Facebook page which contains over a 1000+ photos now, and I usually add about eight more photos every other day or so, along with an ongoing blog of day to day rail operations from my work diaries of the period. The page can be found at facebook.com/WestCoastSouthernSection
