Good Morning and Happy Autumn to all!
Good morning from Texas. Hollis
Would like a prayer for my daughter Dakota for she is having surgery on her neck for thyroids Monday .
Good Morning All. Wishing you a best blessed day
Chaplain Bastille was there for my family when my dad was dying from cancer, he listened to me, he made the calls to Rear D on my behalf. I was home from Iraq for R & R back in 2005, I was five days away from having to be in DFW when we got a call from his sister who said he was at the county hospital , she named off a whole bunch of things wrong, a collapsed lung, pneumonia, bronchitas, possible Hep C, plus he had this huge tumor in his neck. I realized that this was going to be an extended stay and that I would have to ask for emergency leave, I called a nurse over, identified who I was and where I was stationed, she called in the Red Cross, who had no clue what to do, I hate the Red Cross to this day, but she claimed it was her first day so she had no clue who to call. She got all excited when she found out that they were going to transfer him to the VA, which they never did, they released him, we had to have him admitted after the weekend, "hey, why don't you talk to someone at the VA when they transfer your dad" My first thought was, I have an idea who you can call, how about the person who hired you, how about your supervisor, how about the 800 number, but I wasn't rude, I kept it to myself. So we get to the VA, they don't know who to contact, but they suggested on talking to the chaplain, since I hate chaplains because of the chaplain we had in Iraq, I said no, but after a week I decided I better. So me and my mom go into the chaplain's office and meet this lady with purple eyeshadow, like really thick, she directed us to Chaplain Bastille's office, we sit down, just the three of us and start talking. I don't know how long we were talking when he suggested that I call Rear D and ask for an emergency leave extension, this is where it gets interesting, my bosses used to constantly mock me, ridicule me, degrade me, make fun of me, all in front of people, all the time, on a regular basis, to them I could do nothing right. my heart sank when he told me that, I mean, it felt like I got punched in the gut. My anxiety level went to 10, my heart started palpitating, I was practically shaking at the thought of calling them, so I explained to Chaplain Bastille why I was asking him to make the call, and he actually did, and with a smile on his face, he didn't huff, he didn't roll his eyes, he literally just reached over to his phone, picked it up and made the call to Rear D to get them to call my unit in Baghdad. That was when I heard something that really hit me hard, even worse, I will never ever forget it, it stays with me to this day, I remember sitting there with my mom listening to him on the phone, he's like "uh huh" "um" "ok" and he says the worst thing possible, "OK, you can't contact them because they're in a 24 hour blackout?" I knew EXACTLY what that meant, when someone is killed the entire FOB goes into lockdown, what that means is there is no internet, no cellphone, no landline, for 24 hours, that's to give time to notify NOK, and I was right when I heard the next thing, "So, you're saying Charlie company got hit?" RIP guys, you will NEVER be forgotten, "All gave some...some gave all SPC David Harrison Ford IV 16 Sep 2005 SGT Matthew L. Deckard 16 Sep 2005 1SGT Alan N. Gifford 16 Sep 2005 SSG Paul R. Marek WIA 16 Sep 2005" That is part of my email signature block. Chaplain Bastille was there for me every step of the way, he left voicemails, sent emails, and we never heard one iota from the bosses, we would do that every few days, like maybe once a week, and would hear nothing, after my dad passed away on November 17th they immediately contacted me, but because it was close to Thanksgiving I decided to blow them off and stay home. When they finally got a hold of me it was like the first week of December, Captain Chen at Rear D was great, I told him what was going on, what we had gone through, and he actually covered my six, until he finally couldn't, he said that the higher ups wanted me on base by December 12th or they would consider me AWOL. I never saw Chaplain Bastille ever again but I never stopped thinking about him, I went back to base, everybody got back about a month later, and I spent 2006 and 2007 still in Georgia, but like I said, I never forgot him, in fact, to this day, when I go to the VA, I'll walk by the chaplain's office, look in, and remember walking into his office, I would look at his closed office door and still vividly remember walking in with my mom and g/f to get news, I remember spending hours at that VA, and it would all start with a visit to Chaplain Bastille's office, I will never forget that man for the rest of my life, I just wish I could have told him in person.
May God bless this congregation for letting me in to pray for my daughter and her children living nearby when I was visiting them last Christmas Please help my daughter with her four children struggling financially and with the divorce from domestic violence Her name is Hannah Jordan Fontanez a forty year old RN

Great service at Bear Island,
"If you find a perfect church, don't join it. You'll ruin it." I am reminded of the greatest line I have ever heard about me when I joined our little church here in Lovell. "We never knew what sin was until you joined our church." I laugh every time I think of it.
