Go out every couple months to see if something is happening. Went out today and no change. Always an eerie feeling. Wouldn't doubt there are bodies out there just lost to the desert. There is a random little mobile home community that seems to be thriving right down the road from the main entrance to the park.

In my opinion, this was a total "rip off" and a waste of time and money. It was so unorganized and the promoter should be ashamed of himself. The lines for the beverage and food carts were long with them running out of food at some places or having to wait up to an hour or more to get served. I have been to real "air shows" where I have enjoyed them and a lot of photos and memories. The Amigo Air show will be one that my grandson and I will remember forever as I drove 240 miles to get here and left 2 hours after because of the bad experience. We should get some of our $$ back so that we can enjoy better organized events. From a score of 1-10, I must give it a minus 10

My father worked there my mother worked there and I worked there ROY C SIGLER, I WORKED IN THE KILNS AND COPPER CONVERTERS AND THE ZINC PLANT MY DAD WAS A SUPER IN ALL DEPARTMENTS HIS ONLY JOB AFTER COLLEGE MY MOM DID ASSAYING IN THE LAB AND I USED A SHOVEL FOR ME I LOVED IT BUT ORIGINALLY MY DAD STARTED WITH ASARCO IN SAN LUIS POTOSI,S.L.P MEXICO , MY DAD STARTED WITH ASARCO IN ROUGHLY 1949 MY MOM TAUGHT THE KIDS AT THE ASARCO SCHOOL AT WHAT WAS CALLED COLONIA ASARCO IN MEXICO I WAS BORN IN 1951 BUT ONLY WORKED AT THE SMELTER IN EL PASO AROUND I THINK IN THE SEVENTIES FOR A WHILE MR KELLY WAS THE PLANT MANAGER THAN FOLLOWED BY MR DESANTIS IT IS SAD THAT COMPANY IS GONE A LOT OF MEMORIES!

One year in the late 80s a bunch of drunks were rocking the little board walk on the water , singing, taste great/less filling.

I remember smelter town was out of this world the air tasted sweet and sulphury no one ever talks about the health issues caused by living and working at asarco i would go into asarco it was like the gates of hell in some areas it is sad the smoke stack is gone was a historical monument

I made a short music video for a television station with the group Nena and the song 99 Luftballoons. So I got a few people to say 99 Luftballoons. It is a German song and back then I had no idea what the song lyrics were about. It was just a big hit back then and it was the KLAQ balloon festival. The group performed live in 2018 and the girl singing still looks the same, just the way she did when she made the music video back in 1983. Check out both music videos on TH-cam.

My dad worked there for 40 years and to see the towers came down it was sad.

I grew up in El Paso back in the 60's and 70's. I used to tour my visiting friends and family members out to the area. They always pointed out the structure. The Asarco Tower was truly a landmark for the City of El Paso. The history of this company goes back many years. Funny, Everytime I come to visit I am always looking in the direction of the tower when I am flying into El Paso. Love my El Paso, Texas! Thank you for the video. David G. Brentwood, CA

They were such a landmark in the west side. Still sad they’re gone. They should’ve let them stay, If their structural integrity was faulty, then I understand.

Was this the original Horizon Lake? If so , damn that was some nasty water. I moved from El Paso in 1980 and haven't been back since.

This is depressing. I grew up in El Paso. I remember driving by these Smoke stacks all the time when I was younger........... moved two years ago.... totally forgot they were taken down

My sons and I went there the first weeks it had opened. We were harassed by a group of 7 drunk guys that wouldn't let us get a spot to swim and just have fun. Everytime I would unfold the chairs and set down our cooler they would come and said they were there first. no law enforcement or security present. To avoid a conflict we just left Angry and Frustrated and unnerved. Never went back!
