I pressed play on this fully expecting to hate it...I was right.
Mel Torme jazz master story teller
Saw him around this time in Canandaigua NY. No one would go with me. Modern listeners I guess.
Even better than the original

Musicians and vocalists in his league are a gift from the past, never to be heard again.
Brilliant talent!!!
The greatest scat singer of all time..what a tremendous talent!!! What a great great work behind this perfection..wow❤
Fantastic cover.
The velvety voice of Mel Torme... I didn't even know he did this song...
A blessing to witness this!!
The most great song of the "autumnleaves" is to me !
Cuba shoo doo dip do bah😂
My brother and I were sitting behind military and his kids in the show we were watching a John Wayne movie in harm's Way when we got out of the theater we were walking behind him and he thought he was we were following him but we weren't just in all of them thank you
Cool and open expression
The Velvet Fog and Seinfeld sent me here.
Blue Blazer dude on skins have, seriously never, ever heard of Steely Dan. Ever.
I'm 450 lbs. XXXtra-LARGE...with no trouble at all I found myself bent over and touched my toes in laughter. I'm 1000% sure Walter and Fagan felt the same. Too F-ing FUNNY.
Maestro Urbaniak pulls these melodies from somewhere deep inside his being.......
Changing the playback speed to 1.25x is life changing
Yup, Johnny Coles great player, underrated. GM
The epitome of style and class! RIP Mel
Wonderful and delightful ❤❤
Another Fierce Detroit Girl 💙
Perfection. His rhythm and that sassy style. Have loved him for decades.
This was Batista's favorite song.
I love the new verse! It fits in perfectly, and the staccato “BYE! BYE!” at the end makes you think the protagonist of the story might not have made it. I always thought the original Donald Fagan version needed another verse, and this new one feels like a natural fit. I wonder if the addendum was originally written by Fagan himself? I know they communicated over the years, and Fagan gave his blessing on various covers. Could it be that he provided a verse that had been cut out of his original for whatever reason? If not, then kudos to Mel for writing the addendum that should have been there all along!
Who is on the bass and drum??
Jorge Rossy (drums), Larry Grenadier (Bass)
I hope kids today can appreciate this someday.
El SR cantante es una bestia peluda( In Argentina, is something like, the Goat). El pianista, otra bestia!!!
Goodness Me! Mel Torme covering Donald Fagan. Fabulous!!
I love him so much ❤
RIP David Sanborn and Hiram Bullock
How does he breath?
Makes the song hers. Best ever vocal Monk renditions. Total class
Pianist is on one lmao
he was a jazz goat
Bravo
I would imagine that Don would have been hugely flattered by this version.
Saw the Velvet Fog in Portland Oregon. This was in the 1990’s. One of the greatest voices ever. Mesmerizing.
I like Mel's additional verse that kind of completes how things go after DF's last verse
The legend....
So glad I found my way to this corner of TH-cam. Incredible. Or as Walter Beckett might say, "It's, like, real good."
Johnny Mercer and Mel Torme: Too marvelous for words.
I just wish he’d said gretchen 😕
