Ownership of a miata 1.6
Here is a video of my 1.6 miata (Little Red). I am just expressing how much I enjoy this little car with the 1.6 and what I have done to it. All the information may not be in the video but it'll be enough to get an idea what I have done to my miata over the 7 yrs of owning and racing the car.
Little Red have been amazing and super reliable. Both on the street and at the race tracks. It has not failed me one bit and I am very pleased. I also take good care of Little Red. Preparing it for track days and just driving the car during the short summer here in Minnesota.
If you take good care of your car, your car will take good care of you. The most beautiful thing about owning a project car that will give you happiness at the end of the day is...
Driving your car for long hours to a race track. Drive your heart out at the track while pushing your car to it's limit and then be able to drive your car all the way back home safely. Being a car enthusiast, if this isn't happiness or satisfaction.... I don't know what is...
Enjoy the video and I apologize for the poor sound quality as I am no expert at making videos. My voice isn't clear either due to no microphone and I just don't have a loud voice ^_^

    Hi Jim, I recently followed your gsxr 750 itb conversion and did the swap myself. Everything is amazing except my only issue is a weird rev hang coming to neutral and between gear changes, car seems to fall to 2000 and sit there for a while before going down, If I blip the throttle to WOT it goes down immediately

    • @Z.m4v
      @Z.m4v 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Also where did you run the catch can vaccum to?😊

    • @jimyang6951
      @jimyang6951 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Z.m4v if it feels like the throttle is hanging at 2k rpm as soon as you're off the gas pedal, but goes down below 2k as soon as you blip the throttle. Then, the throttle body is hanging due to the bend/binding of the throttle cable. Some people will tell you to add a throttle return spring. But the best way to resolve that is to go to napa Auto parts store. Buy a tube of their Sil-Glyde. Apply some of the Sil-Glyde to the throttle cable at the throttle wheel, going into the throttle cable boot. Make sure that the engine is turned off while you're applying the grease. Open and close the throttle while you're applying the grease to the throttle cable where the boot is at and exit out to the throttle wheel. This will help prevent the throttle cable from binding, causing the itb to get hung at 2k AND you'll no longer need to blip the throttle to get the rpm to go below 2k. I hope this helps, and hopefully, it made sense.

    Great looking car! I wouldn't go any stiffer with the springs/shocks. May be up-rate the ARB's and end links. Also if it is your daily DON'T polybush the bushings. I have a 1991 1.6 turbo with rubber bushings and its great on track with stiffer ARB's. You may need stiffer engine mounts as the engine rocks quite a bit! It would also be great to see more track footage.

As for my motor mounts, I got the oem mazda motor mounts and there's a lot of engine rock. I want to upgrade the motor mounts, but I don't want the super stiff ones that will cause a lot of vibration. I'll have to look into the ones that are in the middle with mild vibration. Thanks again and I'll try by best to upload more videos.

    Why do you plan on downsizing to 38mm throttle boddies? Curious as I almost purchased the OBX 4-Age kit walmart had on sale for cheap

    • @jimyang6951
      @jimyang6951 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Z3ROpercentau choosing the proper itb size is important. The single biggest mistake most people make is using an itb that is too big. The ultimate size of the runner is proportional to the total air flow requirement which in turn is linked to the power output of the engine, so in theory, use the power level as an indication of the size that is required not the engine displacement. So whatever you have done to your engine, match it to the proper size. Mine is stock, and after testing 43mm to 40mm. I saw some improvements in driveability, hp & torque gains, compared to using 43mm silvertop itb.

      I used barb 5/8 fittings as shown in the video. I put a little bit of glue on the barb fittings and sit it in the throttle (injector holes). By doing this, the barb fittings will remain in place, and it will be easier for you to fill it up with jb weld. As for the holes where the secondary throttle shaft used to be, I filled one hole at a time. Wait until the one you fill is dry and then move on to the next. I used coffee wood stirring sticks to mix and apply the jb weld. I also used Q-tips to clean off excess run offs. Make sure you use the jb weld that hardens up in 6 mins. Once completely cured, you can go back and sand it down to smooth it out. I hope this helps

      If you're asking what type of standalone ecu I am running, I am using megasquirt PNP2

    Nice work Jim! I did a very similar mod (bending the tubes) to my rail also.

    Is It with stock exhaust and headers all the time?

    • @jimyang6951
      @jimyang6951 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It has cobalt headers & racing beat exhaust system in it. Catalyst delete. The itb setup is on a 5th revision, so I'll redo another dyno update in the spring.

      I’ll stick with mini mags. The stingers are a bit of overkill

      Its just unburned powder. Stinger recoil less than minimag. The round actually have less energy but its got cool flash and sound.

      Hopefully, the video has enough information for u to go off of. My gsxr750 itb video will show a little bit of the megasquirt setup for the startup.

      I switched from the silvertop to gsxr itb was because: At the moment, i was learning how to setup itb and learn how to tune it (big thanks to antonio at 8ighty 7even). I was also curious how both itb setup were different from one another and the benefits of both. From cost to parts availability, including pros and cons. So, only one way to find out was to do both. So than I experimented with both setups. Including tuning and all. I then settled and decided to keep the gsxr setup. Due to more parts availability and more affordable. It cost less, and since it was a 2 barrel itb, it was easier to sync. The 4age silvertop, to make sure that it was properly synced. There's more to it than just using a synchrometer. Side note. The induction sound out of the 2 are different. The 4age 20v itb produce a more aggressive sound at high rpm compared to the gsxr750. And at cruising speed, the 4age 20v itb produce a louder gurgling sound than the gsxr. The gsxr at cruising speed is quiet.
