"Fearless" pt. 1
มุมมอง 87K18 ปีที่แล้ว
Tao Berman is one of the top extreme kaykers in the world. Take a first hand look inside Tao's mind in this one of kind documentary that examines not only Tao's motivations but his utter fearlessness before running seemingly unrunable waterfalls.

3:42 is that cake drop?
mucha hablada y nada de acción
Natural law is always in effect. Fact is, most never look inside themselves at all to see all their weaknesses--- that leads to apathy! Truth is the crazy guys give us normal folks something we need desperately, that which is knowledge of self. If your ego is offended buy someone elses, it means you need to work on it.
I love it
That's fucking intense whish there was audio
Great stuff man!!
try palouse falls there 18 feet taller than niagra and paddle-able.see tyler bradt world record decent.
At what, promoting himself? They are both self absorbed media hounds. I could care less if our sport had either of them. It would have progressed the same as if they weren't involved in kayaking at all. They both look up to Corran Addison as far as I am concerned. At least Corran truly invented a lot of the freestyle moves we know today and who tried to run Looking Glass Falls in a fiberglass boat in the early 80's. Neither can say they were that wreckless or contributed as much.
I would tend to disagree. I think this man is inspiring. Perhaps you should spend less time judging others, and give a look in the mirror and decide if it is really Tao that is bothering you.
look at much paddling has progressed since then!! Rafa Ortiz, Tyler Bradt, Evan Garcia and the rest of the Tribe/Bomb Floe/BDP paddlers make Tao look bad!! dont get me wrong Tao is still an amazing paddler but i love how far kayaking has come since this was made :)
This Guy is Awesome!!!
@gdk229 I think it's just his sense of humor... i want to find him arrogant but i think he's just mocking the danger in what he's doing
Eric Jackson is definatly better
@GBRmedic thanks for your comments. I can appreciate your insights and what you are getting at. I actually created the film, not Tao. It was a painstaking process traveling to Oregon and Washington to make this film, let alone getting to know Tao. It's my belief that if you watch the rest of the film you'll find something more under the surface. And I would pose the argument as not if you like Tao or not but if you believe he is fearless in his pursuit of boating.
*gag*-Tao is the personification of ego... He has these people talking about him like he is some sort of hero for crying out loud. From a technical standpoint he is an excellent paddler but he is so damn arrogant and self promoting, who puts out a movie about himself titled "fearless"... I couldnt even finish this video, guess Im just not "extreme" enough Guess Ill go slam a mountain dew and try again...
Why not call it for what is............mental illness? Fear is what keeps people alive and safe; fear is a normal evolutionary response to that which can readily cause death. [Why not just go over the American Niagara Falls with no protection and be done with it?] Its not about having "guts" or "balls"; its about lacking that which is a normal part of evolutionary brain function. Why should one be jealous that they are not mentally ill, as well?
you just have to be imp[ressed with tao's focus on these falls. this is not just luck but a result of hard work and a lot of skill. awesome vid.
Very well made and edited. Thanks
videos like this make the kaker population seem like a huge shed of tools
Blisstick shitstick more like.. Get a better boat man.
dang that one at the end could have ended worse lol well I guess they all can heh... scary
i would have bought a dagger nomad, not a mamba. me and my crew were in norway this year, first time real creeking too. (the video is on my account, check it if u want to). and one of my mates had a mamba, and he had some trouble with that boat, because it has to less volume, especially in the back. he sold it yesterday and he's gonna buy a dagger nomad. think about it ;)
Twitch series is still my Favorite! Praying for more Tao
Tao's my inspiration. I started Creeking this year, and bought a Dagger Mamba kayak cause it seemed like all the pro's were using them (including Tao). Two youtube video's down, many many more to go! Thanks Tao, I dedicate my 'extreme fearless' video's to you. And what's with the hater's in youtube world and their comments (the one's like 'tradernorton' just below my comment). TH-cam is all about whatever rocks your boat (or Kayak lol), if you dont like something, dont watch it.
tao's awesom
The boat he uses in the end is a Dagger Nomad.
This video is amazing... it's really inspiring BTW my name is Tao too... i've never met another Tao hahahaha
Tao is to kayaking what Steve Irwin was to nature films. He's a hero to me and my kids. He's just a GREAT guy, and what I call a River Monk: he's dedicated his life to a spiritual pursuit that can only be satisfied on the river. God keep him safe.
dude, great movie
that slide at the end was so ridiculous
This song is beautiful
respect for you Tao! Hope I will ever get close to your level. Im paddling in a blisstick flipstick right and I love the boat!
Very cool that you got that feeling from the film!
You are right on all accounts. Tao is incredibly good and has had a handful of "close-calls" although he may not call them that. I don't think he will be doing this in 10 years and neither does he, at least not at this level.
as per this film a little over 6 seconds to descend the slide at the end. How much vertical and how much overall distance?
I've heard one comment on another paddlers comment that Tao is the most technically proficient paddler they have ever paddled with. And I've heard a tail or two of incidents Tao has had in rapids that are outer worldly (In the skill it took to achieve the resulting outcome). But ultimately if one tries at this long enough I suspect an inevitable outcome. I'll be very surprised if Tao is paddling at this level this frequently in ten years time (statistically speaking it seams unlikely).
"If I make one mistake..."- Tao. Yes that one mistake can often carry serious consequence. But I would contend that when one is descending drops of this nature all the human skill in existence may not be enough. Tao has an exceptional ability to move with whatever situation develops.
I think this get to the heart of it. Do what one passionately loves and do only without doubts.
