#BellLetsTalk - Dear Friend
Hi! My name is Shay Prasad, and just over a year ago, I lost my mom to suicide.
Bell Let's Talk day is coming up this Wednesday, January 30th. This day means a lot to me - each year it motivates me to share my experiences in the hopes that it'll either help someone going through something similar, or that it'll inspire someone else to talk about their experiences as well.
Grieving a suicide loss is unlike any other - it's confusing, and so hard to understand - for not only me, but also for those trying to support me.
I wrote this piece to try and express what it feels like to be stuck in a depressive cycle and to be unable to ask for help.

#BellLetsTalk - My Mom's Story, Suicide Stigma, and How I'm Doing Now

On December 20th, 2017, my mother took her own life. #BellLetsTalk has given me the courage to want talk about it, despite the negative stigma that surrounds suicide.

I love you and this video ! I lost my mother June 13th this year I miss her more than life itself. To lose a mother is one tragic event on it's own as well as suicide. To lose a mother to suicide is just a whole nother level :(

Much Love Shay... my Mother passed away due to a different form of mental health disorder, drug addiction, on August 5th 2017. She did the drugs due to the feeling that theres no point in being strong anymore.........If only our Mothers would have opened up, hopefully this video explodes worldwide, so that even if just 1 person sees it and changes someone's life.......

Thank you for sharing this, there are others who are not able to come out openly and talk about this, you have empowered them, your mom raised you to be a strong person, she is proud of you. The shock and grief that consumes you after you lose someone is overwhelming, the process can be more challenging where there is little explanation about a loved one’s suicide. We never get over the loss of our loved ones but we can get through it, learn to survive. I lose my older son when he was only 15 in 2009 in a tragic car accident, there is not a day that I do not think of him. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. And yes you are not alone! Love you.
