Fortunately Walt never questioned them about the rental agency or that if any GPS that they would potentially have to monitor their vehicle was present and this is how they finally got him…. This scene proves how brain dead Hank actually was. Some fans of the show try and excuse his failure to nail Walt early by saying he that he was family and he just didn't want to believe it. Maybe that excuse would work if his reaction to the discovery of Gale's book was one of sudden realization and understanding. But that's not what happened here.
