If you don't need 2 mic preamps and no phantom power for a condenser mic (48V), you will be fine. I like the fact that you can throw the fx engine from the SP404 on your full ableton mix. So, if you playing live and the PA sounds to boomy, just use the EQ from the SP to handle it. It won't be the most sophisticated high-end solution, but it works well and is easy to understand.

Thank you for your feedback! It would probably be a great thing for an update (4.0 ?) if you had the option to set something like wet/dry for an effect.

At first glance, there are 18 voices. But since I used the Ensemble Pitch instead of the vinyl pitch, the load doubles again. This is, of course, an extreme example, but I hope I have communicated the point to some extent. Thanks for the feedback!

I noticed it because I use the SP-404 like a workstation: a bank of drums, a bank of bass, a bank of synth, etc. In the end, the bass drum is suddenly missing because you play too many pads at the same time... Thanks for the side note :-)

@@derived-doom I totally get what you mean. I think the sp404 can absolutely be used as a workstation. I often have a similar setup but I keep an additional bank of "patterns" where I take a pattern I've created and use "copy + pattern" in "pattern mode" and commit it to a sample in that bank. This can free up a ton of voices, especially when using the polyphonic chromatic playback to create chords and big pads that will eat through voices. That also lets you resample that pattern with virtually infinite amounts of effects. Then you can plop that whole complex resampled mess into a new pattern and it will use up only two voices. I often will do this for drums, bass, leads, and misc. separately so I can still adjust their volumes and eq. This way you'll run out of sonic spectrum frequency before you'll run out of voices. The only downside is that it commits to audio, so you can't change the notes later. I'm actually extremely impressed by how complete you can make a track on the sp404 alone. If the sequencer was better, it would be my all -in-one machine for most things.

These are excellent tips! I try to focus on a device like the SP-404 because the DAW gives me so many options that I end up making no decisions. I'll definitely try it over the next few days to see if I can make any progress with your tips. When I think about it, re-sampling isn't really a disadvantage: you just have to decide whether you like something. Hundreds of great songs probably would never have been created if the musicians had never had to commit themselves...
