Ancient Earthquake Opens Up Mysterious Appalachian Cave
Been hectic since the hurricane so sorry for not posting in a while, lots of cool stuff happening in my life and I'm about to start a new video series. Enjoy this wild adventure into a mountain top cave which was opened by an ancient earthquake. One of the most.... different/fascinating/miserable caves and one of the first caves I ever went into (footage from March 2024, first expedition in was in June 2023)

Hurricane Helene Floods NC Mountain Town (POV FOOTAGE)

This was horrible on so many levels, the damages that hurricane Helene did to western North Carolina will take years to recover from. We got so incredibly lucky and the following weeks will have its own challenges, its a wasteland out here and things feel like anarchy.

Come along with us through miles of cave passage to find the legendary crystal hiding inside this mountain. This is part 1 of 2 of an epic journey miles into Ellisons cave which has the deepest pit in America inside it at almost 600 feet! Super interesting! And those spiders were AWESOME! 😁 Thanx for sharing. Cheers from Down Under … 😜🌴🌴🌴
Man I know they got to be lots of gold in them caves and I bet their taking a lot out of them caves to keep and sell. I would take a few goodies to keep but would hate to see them caves cleaned out. One more thing the trash and painting on the rocks is disgusting.
Taking stuff from caves and painting the rocks are no different. Don't let greed fool you.
Clean up your language and don't use Jesus name in vain and maybe I'll watch your videos again
Stop voting for charlatan billionaires, God boy.
Dude that looks like so much fun. Happy for y’all 💯
Oh awesome! I love shakey videos of rocks 😂 🙄
Well isn’t he a cutie
Cave like that seems more dangerous?
Yeah baby 😎🤘
G2C? WTF are you talking about?!?
Google is your friend for this one
Woah!!!!!
I think the rust formation you saw is Limonite a iron sulphide, although you are in Granite, I can see Quartz stringers, iron can occur between the boundaries of the Quartz and Granite. If this opening was caused by an earthquake, and you are not on the fault, this could be a weakness or fracture that travelled down the rock strata, when the earthquake occurred, it pulled the weakness apart creating what you see, unlike Limestone Granite would take millions of years longer to weather away like Limestone does under the flow of water, plus Limestone is dissolved by carbonic acid, created by carbon dioxide dissolving into the water as it is released from the calcium carbonate or the Limestone makeup.
Wow thanks for the info, this is really interesting imma pin this comment. Yes granite caves aren’t really a thing yet haha, I’ve seen similar iron formations in limestone - does quartz have to be present for that to happen?
@@Mineral_dude Quartz is one of the hot silica rich fluids that transport up through cracks, fissures and faults by volcanic activity, there are numerous sulphide minerals that can form, Limonite being one of them but they don't need Quartz to form, but it is highly common to find it in the presence of it. Other Sulphide minerals are Galena (lead), Silver Chalcopyrite (copper), Pyrite (fools gold), Zinc, and Gold in the suspension in the Sulphides, plus a whole host of others, it is what the miners were looking for, veins of Quartz, Calcite, Fluorspar and Feldspar.
Fun explore, thank you! I'm looking forward to your new video series. 🙂

Saw u with the twins. I watched all their vids and they were beautiful BUT they never slow down and explain anything about what us viewers are seeing. I’m very interested in all those features in the rocks and their to big to answer any questions. I clicked on and saw u talking about the rocks so here I am. Hope I don’t drive u crazy with questions. Be safe down under.
Haha I’m a huge rock nerd so I could ramble all day about this stuff, ask away, I don’t know everything but I’ve learned a lot being underground, welcome to the channel hope you stick around! 🫶
@ Those rock tunnels with the scoop holes in the rock I wonder what caused that. Looks like when u scoop ice cream out. I know the holes in the bottom are caused by water spinning rocks and sand.
❤love it! Interesting cave
This was the one I was telling you about when you was out at whitesides, pretty near to that
edit: i just rewatched the start and you said NC! this is my neck of the woods as well lol these are some awesome rocks to crawl on and in. reminds me of NC rocks. so much mica
It’s NC! In the nantahala forest
You ever want to get underground reach out on Instagram we can figure something out, hope you are doing alright after Helene 😅
Thanks for showing us something different than we usually see. It's interesting to see the different types of caves. I love seeing bats in caves. There were some I saw back in my caving days that had frost on their fur. They are such cute fuzzballs.
Yeah Forsure, it’s a much needed refresher haha, those little guys are so darn cute!!
@@Mineral_dude The cuteness wears off fast when they live in the roof and attic of your old house, and frequently get into the living area. It gets old fast. Hint: tennis racket.
That granite and bull quartz is a major change for the limestone environment! Iron stains on the walls is something to see! It is always fun looking at the minerals in that area.
Haha no kidding, it’s definitely a one of a kind place
Uhh, I think I'll stay out of the crack of doom. Interesting all those bats hibernating on those wet walls
🤣🤣🤣 I get it man
That was an awesome place man thanks for letting me tag along, Faultline, crystal....my head went GOLD, but seriously that north pole crystal is something special so congratulations on seeing it in person, what a rush.
Love the shoutout😂🫶🏼
Oh yeah this old footage is going to be fun to sort through 😅

Crawling climbing this footage was when I was super green and thought I knew everything idk what the fuck I was talking about 😂😂😂
Nah just smoking it
Nice, realy like your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for tuning in!!
Love it ! Slipping on down da holes .Mud Otters rule
Hell yeah, we're all mud otters down here 🤙
I'm going to need the gps to fact check this. I am the owner of the earthquake monitoring system, and I'll be the judge of this story
It says ancient earthquake...just curious how your monitoring system can monitor the an ancient earthquake. Genuinely curious.

@Mineral_dude gonna be honest I've had this and a bunch of other videos sitting in my watch later file waiting for the time between open water Fishing and ice fishing where I live when I actually have time to sit down and watch videos hence the late comment
@@CrazzyOntarian sounds a lot cooler than TH-cam man!! Cheers 🤙
How long did it take to get back up? 😅
bro if it's just a vacuum hose, you could have just used long needle nose pliers and slide it off and slide a new hose on. i've done this on my 2.3. even a splice and a zip tie would have been perfectly fine as it's just a vacuum hose for the intake. 2.3 ain't suckin that hard lol

Wow! Of all the cave videos I"ve seen this has to be the prettiest cave yet. It has all the cool stuff you want in one place.

Can’t pull shit with a 2.3 liter ford ranger 😂
I actually called a bunch of tow companies before but they where all busy doing similar shit
Man I’m so sorry!!! God bless you and everyone else!!! I grew up in Appalachia and I miss the mountains so much . I just bought a few acres in Newland and although I’m a long way from really knowing I’m assuming it’s not good. I now live in Florida and own a remodeling business . We got our asses handed to us down here too. I sure hope it’s another 100 years before anything like this happens again
The speed of the rushing water is unbelievable.
They really shouldn’t need to be said, check your gear before you leave the house not while you’re in the cave!
Bless you for warning your neighbors
Very fortunate none of the campers were washed away.
Glad yall got in there!
Imagine if we didn’t 😭
@Mineral_dude if you got stuck down there, it would burry you in calcification... I bet there are tons of ancient, and prehistoric fossils burried deep under that calcification in these caves
Nice edit! That was a fun trip and an exciting cave to explore❤
Hell yeah man glad you tagged along, I’m bout ready to get back underground if you got any trips coming up?
@@Mineral_dude on way to Bridge Day now. Might find something on the way home Sunday.

Of COURSE it's kicking u r butt..it's 300 ft vertical. That shot looking down the pit gave me vertigo. Can't wait to see documentary!
This one is an ass kickers, I’ve conditioned myself to climb 600 no problems but for some reason this 300 footer kicks my ass everytime, probably cause I try to sprint up it and this time I was carrying a bunch of heavy gear
