Bass Preamp Shootout - CAPO/ BP1/ Black Panel/ Solo610/ WA73 and more
Bass preamp shoot out for the gear nerds. There is a glaring omission, and the 44 week wait is probably the reason some of the other pres have been acquired.
Subjective shootout - For this I picked a tone that I would likely use, rather than just going with everything flat, since that's how one might use the pres. Also, I probably enjoy more dirt in the tone than some so I got the pres to grit up just beyond the point of breaking up (unless it couldn't)... I attempted to keep the output roughly the same, but you can check the meter to see what is happening for when you hear a difference.
Preamps tested:
Caveman Audio BP1 compact
Origin Effects '64 Black Panel
Jad Freer CAPO
Universal Audio Solo 610
Warm Audio WA73
Xotic Effects RC Bass Booster
and for fun
HX Stomp - Tuck n' Go preset
HX Stomp - Aqua 51 preset
into a Presonus Quantum 2 (everything into the same channel)
Basses used:
Fender Custom Shop Pino Palladino Signature w/ La Bella Flats
Mid-90s Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 w/ maple fingerboard & Dunlop Superbrights
Sire P5 5-string w/ DR stainless steel rounds

Why on Earth would you think cutting out all the treble frequencies of the instrument could ever provide any basis for an accurate comparison of preamps? What a waste of time.

Capo and Black Panel were my favorites but the Xotic RC booster was a real surprise. Thanks for putting this together!

RC Booster is price performance winner, I'd say.

i feel the same, for practice at home the other pedals are far too expensive. and in a band situation, noone will here the difference.

Incredible content for us gear nerds! Personally love what I'm hearing from the Capo and UA 610. I've also played around with preamps and sims on the HX Stomp and just can't find anything usable for me.

It's clear after several listens, other tests also support my decision that Caveman Audio BP1 compact and Jad freer Capo are clearly the best choice, you can't be disappointed with these products. I order Caveman or Capo. Could someone tell me which one, and give a reason. th-cam.com/video/YXFGYN76r_g/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/3Dav3lshQsk/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/_p3wH6XyISs/w-d-xo.html

UA610 than WA73. The Origin sounds great for a pedal. The UA even sounds fat, but without unwanted distortion, on iPad speakers. Yes, I have listened on Focal monitors, too. Nice playing and comparison❤
