Admire both of you for your passion as I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to history. Did a 4 day battlefield tour of the Valley with Scott Patchan back in 2011 and remember going down Walker Lane and standing in a field of what was then Crawford's Farm. A memorable experience. Understand that a number of improvements regarding interpretation have been made since that time. Guess it's time for a return visit. Thanks for posting.

The 10th Alabama were not fans of Stuart after this battle. One of its officers wrote in his diary right after the near disaster at Brandy Station, a year and a half later, that they'd heard that Stuart had “made another Drainsville affair of it."

Plus I understand that an armed, uniformed militiaman was stationed at every polling station for the second Virginia secession vote. In which Pittsburgh cemetery is Alexander Smith buried... Allegheny Cemetery? I was hoping to find it on the Findagrave website.

I grew up in River Edge ("New Bridge") -- we were told we had the "bridge that saved a nation." Apparently, George Washington had this bridge on his maps, but the British only had a bridge a few miles south in Hackensack. So Washington was able to evade the British when retreating. Not sure how much truth there is in that, but that's what we were told! The von Steuben house (pictured in the video) was donated to von Steuben for the help he gave to the Colonial Army. He apparently was so underwhelmed that he never even visited the house. Throughout Bergen County, there are signs marking "Washington's Retreat Route." On the other hand, in Monmouth County, there are signs marking, "British Retreat Route."

Brovo, you recognized George Thomas for his ability to plan, think, and act in the midst of battle and gave him a measure of the credit he deserves. At Nashville, he did what Sherman failed to do with a superior force while being badgered by Grant who was stalemated at Petersburg.

The narrator neglects to mention: 1) Lee allowed his students to rape black girls of Lexington, but would expel students for missing too many classes. 2) He expressed regrets that he was too old to be the first leader of the Ku Klux Klan.

Hello…thank you for this discussion! I just found out my gg grandfather was 1 of the 1,634 captured prisoners of war at Tullahoma. He was Co. B, 24th Ala Infantry (under Polk/Bragg). It states he was captured July 2, 1863 but was discharged in Sept ‘63 under “Oath & Parole.” What does that mean?? Side note: He lived to a ripe old age of 87 yrs. Moved to East Liverpool, Ohio in 1865 until his death. Thank you, Kelly

Hello there! Thanks for watching and for the great question. In this case, a brief explanation is one took an oath to not take up arms against the Union and to not support the CSA in any way. The parole part is similar to today's definition; they were free to go home under certain conditions. I will attach a link to an Oath & Parole form example so you can read it for yourself. www.loc.gov/resource/rbpe.20406400/?st=text
