I made the mistake of releasing the tension before installing the new cord. The spring will have a tendency to disconnect. No big deal to reattach the spring but it’s an additional step that can be avoided simply by maintaining the tension.

Your better off removing that guard all together. That way you can extend the cord a bit longer and get more done in less time than you would with the guard on.
