Keeping It Super Simple
I’ve set up this channel to record my outdoor experiences, survival & bushcraft skills for myself as a reference Libary to help prevent skill fade. I have been fortunate enough to have been taught most of my outdoors skills through the military.
My channel concentrates more on modern camping, survival and bushcraft set at a beginners level of understanding.
I have always had a great love of knives and like to field test my knives while out on my camping trips.
As i am out in the woods most days of the week and i use a large variety of kit so i like to do the odd equipment & knife reviews on the channel also.
The channel is not set up as a teaching platform as i am just a outdoor skills practitioner who likes to keep his skill sets up, if you get some benefits from the channel that's great.
I hope you enjoy the content of the channel and what you see. Please like, share, & subscribe. The channel appreciates your support. Thanks for watching

Busse combat knives- Combat grade fusion battle mistress
I have had this knife for about 15years now so it’s definitely been put there its paces and through the mill.
I thought it was about time I did a knife review on it.
The Origin Contender I personally feels a much better all round knife at a fraction of the cost and it comes with a sheath

Looks a solid knife but as you say custom chargers are ridiculous, if I had that sort of money for a knife I'd be speaking to Kev, his work blows me away.👍🏻
His blades are some of the best I have used. His Contender knife can match the Busse no problem at all at a fraction of the price into the bargain
@@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 Definitely, I remember you testing it.👍🏻
@TheDavewatts one of the most hardcore blades I have ever tested and it was O1 tool steel
@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 I love 01 tool steel, I've made about 5 knives out of 01 including a Yakut knife, great to work with and if you get the heat treat right your laughing.👍🏻
How's you Alec...🤔If I'm listening to anyone who can give a true opinion in s knife 🔪 it's of course yourself & I agree about the TAX it's shocking buy from the UK Appreciate you time Bud....🏴🫶🇬🇧👍
Cheers pal 👍👍
Thanks man I’ve always had half an eye on Busse knives but for the cost I think my cash will stay in the UK
Good choice. I agree with you m8
Cheers pal 👍👍
Wow, idk how im only just finding your channel. Seriously underrated stuff. Thanks for sharing
Cheers pal. Pass the word around 👍👍
A sweep is where its at 👍
I love the upswept blade also bud 👍
At the min alex I use my leuku knife i made myself from a blade blank. It won't be anywhere near as good as that knife your using but it gets the job done. But my go to knife for heavy duty is my 80 year old wilkinson sword type d which is a million times better then the modern j.adams. Wow that fire is really smokey 😅 but well done in a real survival situation you got top marks for that fire in those cold & wet conditions well done 👏
Cheers pal 👍
Great knife kev definitely makes the best survival knives I've ever seen & I've used a few of his also. Definitely getting a custom knife made when I've saved up in the new year.
Some of the best tools I have used over the last 40yrs. Definitely the best in the uk for survival knives and tracker knives. His kukri’s are also the best I have used. They are fit for purpose
@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 yep I agree tried & tested
Great review as always. Looks like a very functional tool. The orange handle really stood out in the smoke. Definitely an advantage in some circumstances. So why a specific winter knife? I would guess gloves etc, but interested in the thought process as usually something to learn! 😊. Why not one tool that works year round? (To be fair I think you had that until the rules changed) .
As you mentioned the handle slabs are very visual in low light , smoke, on snow & ice and on the forest floor. The thick spine allows you to baton all day long with no worries and baton through frozen wood as well. A good grip and a good sized handle to allow the knife to be used with winter gloves. The RWL 34 steel is an excellent steel if it is properly heat treated to be used in low temperatures. The size & weight of this knife makes this knife a great chopper for shelter building. I have had other high end knives that I use but they just don’t seam to do as good as this blade in the winter months
Thanks buddy. You always have a thought through / experience based reasoning, hence the question. Hope you didn't mind. You are definitely spoilt for choice with Kevin's knives.
@AndyWoodsTracker yep I am definitely spoiled for choice. His tools a made for function and they are purpose built to do the job
don't forget the pocket bellows, keep your face away from the flames
Some good advice m8 👍👍
I've just taken delivery of my own rada from Kev, it stunning 1 off piece of kit I look forward to getting out and using it
Great survival knife. How the British MOD knife should have been
I see your knife in the workshop, looks stunning with the red handle slabs and also with the new locking sheath. Get a few videos up when you get out and use it. Always good to see how other people use their blades
10/10 my Man great test I will remember this one when I'm out stay safe out there Alec....👍🫶🌄
Give it try bud 👍
Nice
I've been looking at this knife for a while, it's how the MOD knife should look like 👍🏻, that being said I've used the MOD knife in the winter months for years if I'm not taking an axe out with me, but if I have an axe and saw then my knife choice doesn't really change, I love my Garberg, it took me long enough to buy one as I wasn't initially convinced by them.
I like the stainless steel version best with the Garbergs
@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 I have both but to be honest I only ever use the stainless myself.👍🏻
@@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342I have the carbon and stainless but to be honest I only use the stainless, it's a great knife.
Hi man! Have you heard from Kevin lately? I was trying to get ahold of him to know how the production is going with the Shirley. I booked one some time ago now and I'm lookin forward to it, I hope the guy is doing well
Yes heard from him today. Keep trying bud. He is rushed off his feet with order. ATB m8
Thanks man as always educational and entertaining
Cheers 👍👍
I've used scandi grinds for years, I love my garberg and kansbal, for heavier tasks I like the jaktkit knv2. The convex on the joker 6.5 is nice to use also all depends what I'm using the knife for. That knife looks a great all rounder.👍🏻
It’s a very well thought out knife m8. Very comfortable in all grips
Nice
A very functional blade the MK2
Looks a belter that mate.😁👍🏻
Stay tuned m8. Hopefully have a few videos up soon on this blade
@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 will do 👍🏻
If your from the states don’t buy nothing from him he’ll blow you off once he has your money and give you nothing but excuses very disappointing said it’ll be 5 to 6 months out it’s been a year on a half and still nothing. Not how you do business. Buyers beware
At least you got some excuses… my transaction wasn’t the best retail experience I’ve ever had… BUT, you’ve heard that ‘good things come to those that wait’, right? The blade I received was sublime. The guy is a perfectionist and what you’ll get will be worth every second spent waiting and every cent paid. If I wanted something that every average Joe has I’d goto Amazon, but this kit is another level. You’re getting an honest artisan craftsman hand building some of the finest usable bomb proof kit out there, and to achieve that level of quality it takes as long as it takes. Add to that the uk has some of the strictest knife laws in the world and you can be wading through mud simply by trying to navigate a legislatively compliant path. For context, I’m NOT affiliated to Origin knives, but a good thing is a good thing and for that I’d do the same in a heartbeat, I’ve yet to find better. Hang on in there.
Another Banger no dealt hope your well my Man...🙏🫶🇬🇧
All good Dean
That's a beauty m8!
I think the knife is about 20yrs old. This is kevs first knife he made by himself. Just getting one made at the moment. I love the feel & the design of the knife
They make some nice knives in Spain, the Joker knives are excellent, the Nomad 6.5 is really nice, I haven't been using it too long but my first impressions are good 👍🏻
Just might need to get one 👍
@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 I don't think you'd be disappointed, I really enjoy using it, a very comfortable blade, it holds a great edge, absolutely brilliant at making feathers.😁👍🏻
Well I know were I'm going first when the numbers come in
That is very impressive. You basically created a true ONE TOOL option! Best most thoughtful mods I have seen to. The handle as well - who would have thought? Great Job!
Cheers 👍👍
Just seeing your video a couple of years late but still really enjoyed it. I am an absolute kukri nut if it isn't a kukri i won't take it in the bush with me. I live in Canada and we have a lot of heavy bush here. I've got to say i think I've tried out pretty much every type and size of knife around but for me give me a big kukri anytime and I'll be happy. As its two years later seeing that beautiful knife in your hands i absolutely love it and would love to get one as well what company makes this blade and what's it called. I sure enjoyed your video and subscribed immediately hope you have more great video's such as this one thank you sir
It’s the Origin knives kukri made by Origin knives here in Scotland. Glad you liked the videos, if interested in one of his kukri contact them here Info@originknives.co.uk ATB 🏴🔪👍

Awww... love the dog
is this knife available for a private sail?

@@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 Thanks for the heads up
brilliant idea to use a piece of wood on the left side!
Give it a try 👍
Post you're bergen to Jay Jay's and get them wieded
I have done it m8. Thanks 👍
Nice piece of kit, I’ve had mine for around three years now i think 🤔 and it has given me great service. Good value £ too👍🏻
Totally agree
Kev’s work is excellent
Yes m8 first class 👍👍
Waiting for mine Bud, I do feel for Kev though, he as you likely know has had to bin loads due to new law changes 😞
@Followerofthecaptain yep m8 it’s a pity that it has had to come to that
Ya cheated. Lol
Aye just a bit lol 😝 really cold needed the fire up and going quick
What sharpener are you using?
5mm ceramic rod and leather strop
Spot on mate, great method.👍🏻
Chew Dave 👍👍
Great fire/wood management system! Excellent demonstration about the surface of the burnt wood being fire hardened.
It works well in wet conditions m8
Grail piece of kit! I'm gonna rail a bit about the knife laws in the UK, that are somewhat bleeding over to the US and other countries. Kevin crafts amazing tools at Origin. I count myself lucky to have one of the 01 Woodsman tools. Yes, I am calling it a tool. I hear people preaching lightweight for their knives. Thats fine for the military or a lightweight backpacker. The Woodsman is heavy for a reason, like you showed processing the wood. I was a structure firefighter for a big chunk of my adult life and given a choice between a lighter axe or heavier, I'd always take the heavier axe. Let the tool's weight do much of the work for me. The Woodsman is a tool for survival, or working wood for shelter, fire, trap making or as Jim showed us making chess pieces. Would it work for defense? Yeah, of course, its a cutting tool, like a axe/hatchet/tomahawk, machete or its foundation base, a Kukri, modified into a Tracker/WSK, so of course you can defend yourself with it. A lunatic could go on the offense with it, as could they with a kitchen knife, a bat, piece of pipe, rebar, 2x4, tree branch, garden hoe, pitch fork or fertilizer... people should think before stifling the crativity of brilliant tool makers and their customers. 99.99999% of the crazy people that go on killing sprees couldn't spend the money that a quality knife would cost. Reason, and common sense need to take control of our political platforms again, it's gotten out of hand. Rant over.
I agree with you there bud 100%
I stripped off the varnish, stained and linseed oiled the handle. Just like this video, I was at a friend's place and chopped down small trees and delimbed some bigger trees with this shovel. A great tool to keep in the car. Great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks pal
Over 60 years UKS Rocky mountains, desert SW, and Virginia woodland... and central Texas... this is the best I've seen, and the least expensive. Carry on! PS I am prejudiced favorably by your accent!
lol 🏴😂glad you liked the video bud👍👍
Hey Alec! I’ve been enjoying my Woodsman quite a bit the past few days and I’ve been carrying it. A lot. I thought I would like the method of under the armpit on a holster rig but I’m not feelin it. I’m sure I may feel different after some further fine tuning. Have you tried carrying your Woodsmen in the Cumberband or Baldrics carry yet and if so can you make a video on it please? Thanks man!
I carry mine in the baldric carry and the Cumberband while in camp and not travelling around to much. Yeh I should be able to get a video up on that some point pal
@@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 I’m looking forward to seeing it. Last night, I was working on some conceptual designs for a piece of leather that would fit on the open rivet holes so I can utilize a Cumberland style carry. It was also 2 AM so who knows how good it really was
@cliftonlittlepage1316 send me a couple of pictures when you get it done m8
I've stropped knives and other tools on my hand for 50 years and have yet to cut myself ... would I recommend it - probably not, but for me it has just become second nature
Me too m8 👍
Great tips m8!
Glad you like them!
👍👍👍
Just curious here. It looked like your angles while using the ceramic rod to touch up the knife edge were very different. Do you wear a leather belt out in the BUSH? Might be better choice. I'd be afraid of cutting myself. Just me.
No I don’t wear a leather belt while out in the woods. As I said the in the video, this technique is not for everyone.
Brilliant 👍
👍👍 cheers
Yo dude that’s a beautiful knife you got there, do you know where I can buy one like that, like an affiliate link or something? Thanks mate.

@@easygoingoutdoorse.g.o7342 thank you so much, this helps a lot.
Great demo Alex. I'm liking the straight version but looking forward to seeing the revised woodsman. Love the use of the frying pan to catch the feathers. Do you miss the saw in that STV?
No I don’t miss the saw because I always have a saw with me when I am out in the woods anyway
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Very good presentation thank you for sharing
Glad you like it and hopefully it will be of some help 👍
I have never really been too convinced by the tracker design. I have to say you are starting to change my mind. My cabins always have a ceiling too. Is that a kupilka🇫🇮 ferro rod you got there?
Hi bud. Yes it’s the kulpuka fire steel. I really like them, they work well
