Full day offshore from San Diego Started off fishing a kelp paddy offshore and then weaved around past Coronado Islands for some Tuna. Small hooks were the key to getting bit today. Started off fishing size 2 and then eventually downsized to size 4. Gear used today: Komodo 463P with 8ft Seeker SSR 20-40 Rod. 50 pound spectra with 30lbs izorline monofilament to 30lbs fluorocarbon Tight lines y’all!

Beautiful
Very nice
Exactly why I don’t like going on head boats. Mass confusion and tangled lines.
terrible lmao
Well done good technique does not try to lift the rod to the sky lets the fish pull against the reel drag ..
It’s good to know I’m not the only left hand reeler
You've stripped the gears.
What rod paired to the komodo? Backbone looks good
Seeker SSR 20-40. So nice it has a trigger grip too! I always end up using this setup the most for 30lbs flyline
Nice! Deciding between this ssr810 vs ssr 80h 20-50. Thanks for quick response 🤙🏾. Tight lines!
This video is why I had to get my own boat. Shoulder to shoulder fishing is to stressful. You guys got on them though. Good job
Nice seeing some left handed action on the left coast!! Keep at it!!
Oh no... I just dropped $170 on this exact reel to catch the exact same fish 😢 Hopefully it doesn't break.
Great reel. You will be fine!
That’s why I rather go to Mexico one extra hour and fish in a panga. 4people max and only 800 bucks.
After the success you have had, it has handled some very big fish for a baitcaster, especially that long fight with the yf tuna. We use them on our charter boat and they have been faultless. Okuma also has great service backup if needed
Yes they reached out and fixed it free of charge. Still using it to this day and just caught a few yellowtail recently. Excellent reel and customer service
Thank you very much for taking me with you.
You’re welcome!
More than once when he is walking down the rail people are standing straight up. They know he is coming, and don't have the decency to bow down slightly, so he doesn't have the raise the rod tip up 8 feet to get by them. Some people are so wrapped up into themselves that they could care less that there are other people on the boat who are trying to be successful. This is self centeredness at its finest. This pisses me off to no end. Selfish ass people.
on the way back those guys usually get a bump on the side of the head
Did a great job considering your a lefty! Hate it when its that packed. Did a awsome job until deck hand was slow to hook that nice one that got away! Hands down on that second catch and quick!🤙
👍🏼thanks!
With 30lb leader you could fit a metric ton of braid on there, easily 450 yards of 30lb, especially if it's not a wind on. I am running close to 300 of 50lb with 80lb leader for snook and gag grouper in Florida. One thing I just don't understand about socal guys is the choice of main line 2x the strength of the leader. There's no point in 65lb braid if you're not going to use a leader of 60-80lb test ever.
Usually they want to have a lighter leader for finicky fish sometimes the heavier line can make it hard to get bit . Especially the kelp patties here in socal.
I have two of these reels spooled up with 50lb braid. I haven't fished either one yet. I have cleaned a bunch of grease out of it and the bearings. Then used reelx oil. Are you still fishing with it? Thinking about selling them.
I used it this season to fish 25lbs and 30lbs. Has 50lbs max cuatro braid 300 yards
@@richardhuk33 cool, thanks for your reply. I live in Utah and have been collecting some saltwater gear. Hope to fish out of San Diego again next season. Haven't been able to for several yrs.
@@I_am_archie its been great fishing down here these past couple of years!
You’re right handed and have a left handed reel?
I like fishing left handed reels. Slowly trying to get right handed reels since the some of the bigger reels only come in right handed
@@richardhuk33 your hand action doesn’t look natural when you’re reeling in the fish from your videos. Seems like you’re struggling, I would recommend a right handed reel, it will feel natural and I’m sure you won’t hit your knuckles on the star drag.
@@mtbjekyll1 yes I got a penn 40nld2 But the star drag cutting up knuckles is a known thing with the komodo cuz it happens with my buddy too and hes right handed
Lucky the school stayed s long while , cause if it hadn't, and you werd the only one hooked up, while everyone else was just waiting on you, you'd be that asshole using bass gear for that everyone wants to throw over the rail...be considerate and use the right gear for the target fish. This should have been over long time ago using the proper gear. Do this on your own boat, not a cattle boat. Smh not everyone wants to just watch someone else fight a fish...they paid to have an opporthth
Learned my lesson!
And omg that’s the worst charter I’ve ever seen, ducking and going over people like that.
That's SoCal fishing for you 🤷♂️ You get used to it.
This guy has no idea how to hook a live bait lol. Lost all credibility in the first 10 seconds of the video
Butt hooking the sardine works great because the bait swims down and away from the boat. The pros here in SoCal do this, just have to be careful when casting as it's not as durable a hook set as through the sardine's nose. When you go off shore fishing for the first time give it a shot.
Amazing fight bro. Well done. True angler you are.
Can you recommend a pole to go with my Komodo for yellowtail?
What size komodo did you get and where are you fishing
Komodo SS 6.4:1 Low Pro. Fishing Catalina Island in So Cal
@@B.Zee... id go with a 8ft Heavy Okuma PCH rod. I love that rod
Thank you
@@B.Zee... in using a Seeker 8ft ssr 20-40. Fishes 30-40lbs perfext and has a trigger grip which is comfortable.
Nothing beats a peaceful and relaxing day of fishing!
Agreed!
Landed a 60#+ BFT on my 471p komodo last weekend. Hell of a fight, but eventually after 30 minutes, got it to the gaff. Gotta give props to okuma for the komodo. Solid little reel they made there
What rod did you pair it up with?
Killer vid. I just picked this reel up today. Can't wait to get it out there and put it to the test!
Just used it today on my full day tuna trip! Unfortunately no bites lol 😩
Como que chama essa carretilha
No puedes venir recoher
Okuma Komodo 471
THAT'S WHY I GO LIGHT LOAD? HALF THOSE YAHOOS HAVEN'T A CLUE???
So I just bought this reel. How is yours holding up?
Favorite reel so far. I also got the 40NLD2 which I landed a 101lbs bluefin last month*
Absolute madness fishing on a boat with that many people!
THAT NEVER BEEN TAUGHT HOW TO FISH???? UNBELIEVABLE?????
Translate to English please
All the party boats are like that in San Diego
what rod is that?
Great video! Did that reel come with that power handle? Or did you buy a custom one? if so, what power handle is it. Thanks!
Yes it comes with the power handle and you can adjust the length ! It has to be the “P” model or else it comes with paddles
Great video.
It was a fathom 25NLD2
@@richardhuk33 how was it. I have one for the purpose of yellows same 25n and for the medium size you got what was it like. Did it take a lot of energy or whats
@@gillzonreelz6549 I haven’t put a big fish on it, just put a 101lbs bft on to 40NLD2 this past week though with 100lbs test easily.
@@richardhuk33 epic. Just wondering cause I have a 25n tackle shop who sold it to me said it can pull in some yellows after 1-3 fight ill be tired. So that's why I'm just curious
@@gillzonreelz6549 reel is pretty heavy duty. That tackleshop worker just making things up 🤣
Throw an avet on that pole and you will be bringing in the fish alot quicker
I'd take experience over rookie fever.
@@juana1483 ?
Would you recommend 7.1 or the lower 6.4 or 6.3?
My Komodo is 6.1... I like it at it’s cranks a little harder. I use it mainly for live bait so I don’t need the faster speed. I have the lexa in 7.1 and every fish feels big lol
@@TimHoSD it’s 463P
For bait fishing you can't beat the Lexa 5.1 there's plenty of TH-cam vids that demonstrate that.
@@pan8a I sold both my Lexa HD 300+400, and switch over to Komodo SS for the clicker.
After 40 minutes time for a beer s
Definitely !
@@richardhuk33 The San Diego is the boat I book all the time.
Can i have it?
The hub engage failed I think. Your pinion gear isn't grabbing the spool pin like it should.
Look like this reel is lefty huh is it? Nice 👍 good luck out there man 🎣 04.08.2021
That is madness.
Only 2 speeds i like are dilldoes
So you aren't picky, the best ones are 10 speeds , kinda like bikes. You're missing out.hahaha
Where is this boat located this trip looks amazing.
San Diego H&M landing
🤙👍
That's my musky reel. I feel way better about potentially hooking a 50"+ musky now knowing it can handle yellowfin lol.
I found your rod in a previous post. Considering that you might be over-spooled an you are using mono and not braid, you done an excellent 👏 job. Multitasking with the drag, speed, and the dip & dodge of the other anglers.
I’m using 500 yards of 60lbs max cuatro and topshot mono to fluoro leader. Lot of line might be overkill , but was gonna use it for medium sized bluefin.
What rod are you using?
Haha. He gave you a heart instead of answering.hahah..NOICE!!!
Great job dude! Managing the button very well.
The pratt gaffed your line Nice of him NOT
yeeee! get it!!
