Fantastic to see these again in such good quality. Like many others I watched these endlessly, having taped them on vhs and pretty much wearing the tapes out. To watch them again now and almost reciting the scripts at times shows just how much they became an obsession and a love affair with North country fishing 🙏
No fish finders on his boat, proper job
I remember watching Fishermans Diary when it it first aired on TV i just can't believe how quick time flies.
The old Mitchell 300 fixed spool reels, classic but no longer manufactured
Lovely times BUT you kept that pike out the water WAY TOO LONG we don't do that now!!!
What a beautiful series!! Completely missed it first time around
I had never seen this programme. Was it regional & when was it on please ?
@@charliesmithers7663 First aired 1989/90 on northern regional TV England i believe.
this brought back memories. thanks.
Old is GOLD
Absolutely brilliant programs I remember watching these 34 years ago on bbc 2
It’s made my day stumbling across this. I remember watching the series on TV many years ago… a brilliant series presented by a knowledgeable angler. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it, i think it is a charming series which i recorded many years ago on VHS video tape, but now on you tube for others to appreciate for many years to come.
Love these old fishing shows
I remember watching this on the BBC in the summer of 1990
sa c est de la peche a la mouche et de la vrai fly fiching une belle epoque et les revieres riche de dame farios
Watching in the middle of winter: here's to 6 month's time when I can put this into practice. Until then, thanks for the video. I have a personal dislike of ground baiting. Let's arrive, do our fishing, and leave the place, including the river/lake environment, the way we found it.
I agree with you sir
You know what they say about meeting your heroes, well I met ET on the bank, fishing where he shouldn't be I would add, and... the word that comes to mind rhymes with anchor.
Are they fishing anything in the video?
A great gang!
I was lucky enough to go fishing with Derek. What a joy it was, trawling for trout on a tarn and then some evening river fishing. Such a wealth of knowledge and beautiful human.
James I am uploading the rest of the series this afternoon🙂🎣👍
His he still alive
Do you have the other episodes in this series please share if you do
I am uploading the rest of the series this afternoon🎣🙂👍
This is when the BBC was British and a great organisation
Wonderful. Stuart Rachels writes about this event and his game there against Kasparov in his book “The Best I Saw in Chess”.
It’s still a great shop with Robert running it 👍
In game 8 could the king go A4 and just use the bishop to block on C3? Can't see any checks
No one?
That was very interesting, the man seemed to do a lot and represented his county in sports.great that his wife had same interests too.Better times.
I’m watching for the fourth time, this is a great video
Glad you enjoyed this video . It’s quite a rare recording . It’s from a VHS tape. I won the video in a 1990’s postcard competition on a fishing programme called Dirty Tackle BBC radio five. With the late Nick Fisher. I think Rene Berg was a guest on the programme.
@@Timeslip1960 yes, he died not long after and is sorely missed
What a fantastic feature on this interesting family will have to pop in.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I bought my first shotgun from Lindsey about 4 or 5 years after this was filmed. He wouldn't let me have the gun until he had checked that it was right for me. I had to pull the gun up to aim at a target with a small hole through the middle of the bull, that he held in front of his face. He looked through the hole to make sure the set of the stock was right for my frame.
I was on holiday near Beccles recently and found the shop, had a lovely chat with Robert, and the shop looks today, just as it does in this programme
It was in the cards Kasparov would win. Plus a million pounds. Nice little earner. A few bob in the bank.
Kasparov is in a league of his own. " The man" in the chess world.
The shop looks no different today was there the other day
I remember watching C4 coverage each day their coverage was semi live - Jonathan Speelman, Daniel King and Raymond Keane were excellent analysts
and what should be emphasised is that this was the pre-engine days. They were working out themselves, as lesser chess minds, what was going on
Love this pure gold played my best chess learning from this. ❤❤❤
Love these memorys learned a lot from these games pure gold ❤
Talking about pike like they’re hard to catch. Relax
I remember watching this when it came on BBC in the summer of 1990
I love the way Mr Tilney handles the guns, it's just an extension of him, totally natural, and what a talented man he is. Interesting footage of the gentlemen on the rifle range, looks like a modified Lee Enfield No 4 and a Remington M1917.
Yes, modified military surplus rifles were popular for this style of shooting called Target Rifle in the 70s and 80s. It evolved from the old Service Rifle A and Service Rifle B. No4s and P14s were most common but SMLEs and K98s abounded. They're not really considered competitive any more compared with purpose built rifles, but some people enjoy them and they make for solid and cheap club and beginner rifles.
Do u have any more of these highlights?
No thats it i'm afraid.
And he sails on a boat with a trapeze, what a great life it seems.
Karpov was a better challenger than Short..
no that would be too boring karpov and kasparov played way too many games esp in soviet union.... even fishcer suspected it might be fixed its good for different champions to challenge kasparov
Loved this series when I first watch it on bbc about 26 years ago at least would be nice if you had the other episodes to show thank you for sharing
title music "shhhhhoooooorrrrrrt"
Any more footage?
I have doubled checked 👍 This and the other upload are all i can find unfortunately! They are both transfers from 1993 VHS video recordings.
@@Timeslip1960 thanks for posting. It would be a great thing to archive
@@Timeslip1960 Howz it going
Watched it 40 odd years ago!🥲👌
Excellent upload thanks
What a cracking film. I can remember seeing Coypu Control chaps setting live-catch traps around Acle marshes c.1982 but never actually saw one.
Can't quite believe that the young lad learning to shoot (his son) went on to be the firearms expert on BBC's Antique Roadshow, he's in his late seventies now.
Thanks for viewing this, i am sure Robert Tilney is actually releasing the clays in the training section. I presume the trainee clay shooter with Lindsey is a local person learning the craft ? 5:10
I used to buy cartridges from Tilney's in those days, as did my father and grandfather. They also used to restring rackets. Gun ownership in the countryside then didn't automatically mark you as a criminal, actual or potential.
Utterly wonderful to see, this was when the bbc had time for country sports and look at young Bob.
