أهلين يا جون! الإختلاف بين اللي وهداك هو انّو "هداك" هو اسم اشارة بس "اللي" مش اسم اشارة بس اسم موصول. يعني "هداك" يستخدم للإشارة إلى شي معيّن مثلاً: "هداك الطالب اللي كان بالصف الأسبوع الماضي" يعني: That student who was in class last week. So هداك points towards someone (far, not in our direct vision), whereas "اللي" joins the first clause "That student", with the second clause of the sentence: "was in class last week" refering back to the first clause. So you cannot start your sentence with "اللي" to point towards someone or something, you can use it only to connect two clauses of a sentence. Another example is: . الكتاب اللي قريتهُ مبارح كثير صعب , translates to: the book that I read yesterday is very difficult. So "that' here connects the first clause with the second clause. "اللي" is a relative pronoun, whereas "هداك" is a demonstrative. Hope this is clear, otherwise I'm glad to elaborate more!

I have not studied Classical, but in MSA the rules are a bit different to this video. In short, this video is giving the rules for unvocalised Arabic. If everything is fully vocalised, the super heavy syllables disappear (except in fringe words like ُّالحاج and ُالشابّ) and the second-to-last syllable is stressed, counting the vocalisation, unless it's short, in which case the syllable before is stressed. In the case of تَوْحِيْدِيٌّ, the دِيْ part would be stressed, hence in Latin taw Hiy díy yun.

@@gide5489 h is the equivalent of ﻬ in Arabic. So the h in 'hat' sounds like the ﻬ in هند "Hind".

She's very good at this, isn't she? She's teaching my girlfriend Arabic; amazingly improved since following the courses of iMasterArabic! My girlfriend has also difficulties distinguishing the words you mentioned; especially mosque and university. For these two words, I taught her a trick to remember which is which. So, the only difference between these two words is ة (Tāʾ marbūṭa) that is added to 'make the word feminine'. Here is the trick: Mostly, women are, unfortunately, not allowed into mosques. So you can link this to the masculine word جامع (the word Tāʾ marbūṭa). On the other hand, universities welcome females (everyone, luckily!), and thus, you can link the feminine word جامعة (the word Tāʾ marbūṭa) to the university. With regard to the letter ى (Aliph maqsurah), I personally see it just as an ا (Aliph mamdudah). Pronunciation is also the same, as far as I know, hahaha. To know when to write each of those, there is a trick that my Arabic teacher during school has taught us. Her it is, look into the verb of the word in the present tense (hopefully, you can do that...), and based on the letter that this verb ends with, you should be able to decide which Aliph to use. If the verb in the present tense ends up with a ي (YEH), then the noun should end up with ى (Aliph maqsurah). If it ends up with a و (Waw), then the noun should end up with an ا (Aliph mamdudah). Here are some examples: يَصْطَفِي --> مُصْطَفَى يَهْدِي --> هُدَى يَسْمُو --> سَمَا يَعْلُو --> عُلَى

Happy to know it helped Nick! Regarding the 'alif maqsoura' ى , it does count as a vowel so you treat it as the 'alif' ا . Which means that in the word مُصطفى the stress doesn't lie on the last syllable because it's not 'super heavy' (it's just heavy), neither does it lie on the second-to-last syllable طَ because it's not a heavy syllable، so the stress lies on the first syllable: مُصـ , so it should be pronounced as: MUS-ta-fa. Hope that's clear!
