This is Aluminum Tanks, so be careful, it’s best to use a Roller/ Tumbler and it’s easy to make your own for that purpose. But for steel tanks there is a better method, and that is sand blasting, but you need a Low pressure Compressor with a decent output, in order to feed the sand blaster, and the steel tank is clean like a Baby’s bottom after that. The best type of sand blaster is the the one for continuous blasting with a feeding hose and a steel pipe that you can stick in a big bucket or sand bag. You also need a long steel blasting pipe to insert in the Steel Tank.. The Pressure should be at least 150 PSI or even higher, if your compressor can manage that. When the Tank is cleaned for rust spots, it’s time to clean it inside with an alkali soap like Maxi 3 or similar, because it will remove any hydrocarbons from oil residue that could be in the Tank, if it was previously filled from Compressor with insufficient filtration. You can use a pressure washer, but it is not necessary, and I normally use boiling water mixed with maxi 3 and repeat two times, and then I flush several times with clean water, and place the Tank upside down, in order to let the remaining water run out of the opening. When you flush the Tank with hot water, the material (Steel) of the Tank becomes very hot, and the remaining moisture inside will dry completely out ! And if the Tank is hanging outside in the Sun on a hot day, that’s even better and will help it dry even quicker! The last thing I do before refitting the Tank valve, is blowing the inside of the Tank with Clean Compressed air from another Tank that are filled with Air that you know for sure is completely dry and Clean!!! Remember to clean and service your valve too and use a new O-ring when refitting the valve.. Congratulations! You are now ready to fill your Tank with Air or Nitrox.

How do you dry the inside?
I tried use 100 degree hot water to wash the tank, spill the water out when it's still hot, and let the heat do the rest.
We use high pressure air(not hot) to blow out most of the water from the tanks and after we keep the tanks upside down for a while. At the end we put to the sun and let dry out by heat completely .

What is the purpose of vinegar and drying the tanks?
Vinegar helps to remove limescale from the neck and from the threads of the cylinder. The scuba tank has to be dry inside, otherwise the water will contact with the aluminum and makes corrosion. Moisture has the potential of beginning the corrosion process.

We don't put any oil inside. The liquid is a dish cleaning soap.
Why clean it?
It needs to clean in case of contamination inside the tank. Contaminates like: lint, hair, oils, organics, moisture, etc....

I use the gravel you get at the bottom of the aquarium it works
