Psycho-Pass (Season 2) is Very Bad
Psycho Pass Season 2 is a downgrade from the first season in virtually every way, and in this video I’ll be explaining how it fails as both a sequel and its own story.

Why I Feel Mixed About Land of the Lustrous (Houseki No Kuni)
This season genuinely pissed me offfffffffffff god why bring it back just to ruin it
I feel that 😔
Season one blew me away, but watching season two right after, without knowing how bad it was, killed my love for the franchise. If i give it some time and then watch season one again, maybe ill have fond memories of the show once more.
I can't say I'm interested in the rest of the franchise either lol. At least you can kind of ignore Season 2 because of how self contained Season 1 is, but it's still a shame that it exists.
Great video fellow Dan! This is a terrible season that never should've been made but alas
second OP>first OP
Agreed
@ManTheDan i bet the phrase "Namjala Latak" in Resurrection is why the Hindi dub of Code Geass exists nowadays. Plus, the whole Indian setting.
Good video fellow Dan
@ManTheDan I have another question for you. I know many Bleach dub voice actors did Code Geass. Which is older, Code Geass or Bleach? I am more into Code Geass than Bleach but I was just curious. I know Code Geass first aired in 2006 (the original series).
I looked it up and it seems like Bleach is older. It started it 2004 and started airing in English in 2006. The first episode of Code Geass in Japanese aired a month after that, and started airing in English in 2008.
@@manthedan4828That's ok. I feel a little sad that no one else I know is into Code Geass (though I did show some episodes to my eldest of 2 sisters).
@ManTheDan Hey, I have a question for you. Have you ever had mixed emotions either before or after watching an episode of Code Geass? Like even for me, I feel happy one minute then sad the next. No one in my family seems to understand when I say that Code Geass is like that, it's such a thought provoking anime. There are lots of sad media outside of Code Geass, too. I'm not going insane or tormenting myself, it's just how Code Geass is. But I would like to know if this has happened to you, too.
Yeah I can think of episodes that gave me a similar feeling, balancing comedic and light hearted scenes with more heavy ones. There's some episodes that are pretty serious throughout (like the ending), but I've always associated the balancing of tones as a fundamental part of Code Geass, so I don't think it's weird at all to have that sort of emotional response. ^_^
@@manthedan4828Yay, thank goodness someone feels the same way. My mum telling me to stop about Code Geass just because she has no interest is just cruel. No wonder I started crying! Look at Tamaki when he heard that Zero was Lelouch after Schneizel revealed his true identity to the Black Knights. He practically bawled his eyes out. Even Shirley started crying when Villetta said Lelouch may be linked to the Black Knights and said "No, that can't be true!" And these characters are not kids, they're teenagers/adults.
Yesterday I have invented a Kino's Journey Bingo. You win instantly, when a reviewer does not mention the 3 additional episodes that came out after the initial TV run ended. I think you used 1 scene from one of them, so maybe you know. For those that don't know, 2 episodes were released in Japan as OVAs, and were clearly meant to be a part of the original broadcast, one is a sequel to the prequel, or part 2 of 2 of Kino's childhood backstory. Another episode is standalone. A 3rd bonus episode was released even later, animated by a different studio. All 3 were never dubbed or released in the west :(
nuh uh
The series just ended this year. I checked my anilist and remembered you existed and we talked about the series on discord. Ngl while I overall like the series... I felt like the final arc was short considering how long the hiatus was.
I'm thinking of making a follow up video now that it's ended. I want to revisit the series to better formulate my thoughts on it overall, and I was much worse at making videos back than compared to now. '^_^
@@manthedan4828 Sounds cool.If I remember I will check it out if it happens
I've played all the Yakuza games up until Yakuza Gaiden. I loved Like a Dragon but I feel like what they did wasn't enough to evolve the series into something new. I just feel like if you played a Yakuza game, you pretty much played them all. It doesn't help that the games can take up to 100 hours if you want to do everything. I thought it was the fatigue talking but after playing Gaiden I realized how done I was with the series.
Nice video mate
For me the game was an amazing ending to Kiryus story as the main character Honestly I can’t unhear return of the travelers when I watch the ending
You should watch Inu-Oh (2021)!!!!
That's been on my list for a minute, I need to check it out.
@@manthedan4828 It’s my duty to promote the film, not enough people have seen it. I’ve never made it through Tatami Galaxy though, the dialogue overwhelms me. Do you think I should give it another shot?
@@mugiwaraboshi37 I think Tatami is worth watching. Even with my issues it's still a fun watch with a strong conclusion. The dialogue is overwhelming, but if I'm remembering correctly it's a bit easier to follow after the first couple episodes.
Kiyoshi Kurosawa is always disappointing to me. I’m a cinephile and he comes up all the time in film spaces, but I just don’t get it.
There are other movies of his that look interesting and I want to check out, but this was a pretty underwhelming start. But when it comes to this movie yeah I don't get the hype. 😅

Thanks for watching my vids <3 The games are great, I have a lot to criticize about the plots but I still love them. Highly recommended.
This was nice. I think I'm gonna try and binge it tonight so this was a lovely spoiler free vid to get me excited beforehand! Please share your thoughts on the reboot too if you've watched it because people are split on which version is better (I'm just going with the earlier one first).
Thank you for the kind words. :) I actually haven't seen the reboot yet. I was initially turned off by the art style change, but I'll still give it a watch to see how it compares and do a video if I have enough to talk about.
I've played all the main Yakuza games, from the PS2 era on, and I'm very fond of them; however I completely agree, their stories are usually a garbled mess, and it irks me that fans are not willing to recognize the writing is so sub par, even when it damages the series as a whole. The last straw for me were the stories of Gaiden and Infinite Wealth: I won't spoil anything, but I think they were a nostalgia pandering disappointment. Thanks for the video, much appreciated!
Thank you for watching. ☺️ Yeah the writing for these games is very messy lol, I already have a couple more Yakuza videos like this that I'm working on. I haven't played Gaiden or Infinite Wealth yet, hoping I'll enjoy them but I wouldn't be surprised if they still have similar issues.
@@manthedan4828 My suggestion is: temper your expectations. They are enjoyable games (Infinite Wealth more than Gaiden, which is repetitive but mercifully short), as long as you know that the writing has the usual mishandling, a.k.a. lots of lows and a couple of memorable highs.
10:53 it wasn't a headshot, you can very clearly see where the bullet hits on his shirt when he shoots the gun, about a second before his head falls back.
You know how can you fix it? Only Majima has a bag with weapons. He doesn't show up. Saejima sees this and thinks that its now or never. He grabs anything hard hitting he can find lying around and barges into the ramen shop. Beating everyone in a very brutal manner all by himself. He gets arrested and while he's out Katsuragi shoots everyone lying around. He then proceeds to tell the police and bribe his way into claiming that "Saejima shot everyone". Something along those lines. That way we could've finally touched this gray area of borderline commiting murder but not directcly by your hand (but by your actions).
And to Arai shooting Munakata we could've seen a bloody wound on a Munakata's face or an eye. It would be bloody and it would look similar enough to a gunshot wound, but in reality is just an ugly bruise. idfk if that makes any sense, but its better than fucking nothing
Yeah this honestly might've been better lol. One alternative I was thinking of was just for Saejima to get real bullets and Katsuragi wear a bullet proof vest. He could still get shot by Sugiuchi and Munakata could still realize the suspicious circumstances of this event. The only issues are considering how Ueno survives (or if he even needs to survive for Katsuragi to gain more power) and how Munakata would be able to figure out Arai's betrayal without that dumb fakeout death. So it wouldn't completely fix the issue, but simple changes like this could fix so much.
I still think Yakuza 4 is one of my favorites (Also, I remember that one time when someone posted real gore on r/yakuzagames to prove the twist real)
That's fair, there are parts I like about 4 even if I feel mixed about the overall package. And yeah it's pretty ridiculous that people posted gore to try and justify this twist, so unnecessary. 💀
So many people brush off this twist?! You realize that the only thing that comes to anyone's mind when talking about Y4 is "rubber bullets"? This is THE most overused thing to joke about it in regards for this game.
You'd be surprised how many people defend it, I see plenty of posts and analysis videos talking about why it isn't that bad and isn't a "real" issue with the story. I was more talking about those people, but I'm very aware how infamous this twist is in general lol.
I think your part on Saejima explains it all. The rubber bullets were there for the game designers to not have a playable 'murderer'. They're extremely afraid of writing a nuanced protagonist that kills in cutscenes.
My friend once said about yakuza "it's like the two teams in charge of side quests and the main story had no idea each other existed"
Honestly, Yakuza 4's story feels like if Vince Russo was a fan of Infernal Affairs.
This feels like a twist one of the Ace Attorney writers would come up with.
Kiryu fought a tiger w his bare hands and u worried bout taking the story seriously

The Like A Dragon games having over the top set pieces and comedic moments doesn't mean they don't take themselves seriously.
I honestly think the rubber bullets plot twist is pretty well done in regards to the ueno hit, but every other usage of them in the rest of the story is ridiculously stupid
Better than 5's Aizawa
No
@@C-xn1dw yes
I think they're both bad but for slightly different reasons. While rubber bullets have a ton of problems in concept and execution, they are somewhat foreshadowed before the actual twist. I actually like the idea of Aizawa as a final villain and his motivations if the story actually bothered to set them up prior to the ending. It feels like he's gone through a whole character arc off screen and we only get to see the ending without context. Also it makes Kurosawa seem pretty dumb for relying on Aizawa for his master plan.
@@manthedan4828 after I finished 5 i thought that they were maybe planning to do a spin off game with aizawa or something but that they never ended up making it
Nahh aizawa was cool, and people mistook aizawa for being kurosawa's actual son and call him a hypocrite for calling out daigo but aizawa became his son only after swearing an oath .
Your not supposed to take yakuza seriously it's satirical
While I can somewhat forgive rubber bullets for the Ueno hit (since I love y4), with Aria there is no way 😭
Saving this gem when I get to Yakuza 4. Only played Yakuza 0 a while back, and loved it immensely.
Yeah Zero is great, out of the Yakuza games I've played it's still probably the best. Most of them are still good (especially in terms of combat and side stuff) but the writing is a lot more inconsistent.
Yakuza 0 is 100 perct the best
I just realized that I mispronounced Sugiuchi's name the entire video lol. I don't know why I thought it was Suguichi. EDIT: Another clarification that Katsuragi wasn't planning to wipe out the whole Ueno Seiwa clan, just the ones at the ramen restaurant that he considered competition for his rise to power.
Y4 is like one of those games where they have a lot of really incredible ideas and set pieces, but they just can't get them to make sense and flow together. Like, the intentions are THERE and the heart is THERE but what ties them together is just pathetic. Great video!
Had me hooked to the screen, great vid mandadan
good job!
this is a nice video, but a lot of your problems with the series seem to come from your lack of understanding of certain scenes and context of such. about ten minutes in you talk about the scene that takes place in the past with Eren and Armin. that isnt a metaphor. that literally happened. eren, having the founding titan abilities, is able to manipulate the memories of most eldians (maybe all, i forget) and erased these interactions from their memories as not to allow them to fuck up his plan. just thought I'd let you know, there's definitely some stuff you didn't pick up on and stuff doesn't just come out of nowhere like you think it does.
I probably should've worded that point better, I wasn't questioning if that entire scene was metaphor, I know that it actually happened. I was only referring to the aspect of Eren and Armin looking like their younger selves in the Paths, I wasn't sure what the deal with that was and wanted to point it out while acknowledging that it doesn't matter that much to the plot. But if you think there's anything else I missed I'd definitely like to hear it.
I've replayed the game since making this video and have changed my mind on Ornstein and Smough, that fight owns.
Sorry these takes are shit...

I think Suzaku role in the series is heavily missunderstood. You're supposed to find him annoying, but if he was the main character, you'd root for him. Suzaku is a critique of the flawed main protagonists in other meccha/shonen animes. He's the Shinji from evangelion, the Setsuna from gundam zero etc.. and personally I'd say he's even more akin to Eren in AOT than Lelouch is, which at first might seem like a strange comparison, but AOT was inspired heavily from code geass, and the ending of that show is what would happen if someone "dumber"/"less strategically minded" attempted the same as Lelouch succeded in doing. I think the point of Code Geass, (especially considering the movies like Ressurection) is that human violence is fractally inevitable. This is evident by the antagonists in Ressurection, which was a country relying on weaponsales (aka violence) to thrive. In a poethic way, Lelouch flipped the table in R2 from being the small rebellions of the world, to have the warmongers of the world be the small rebellions. This is a much better feat than for instance Eren Jager, or dr.Manhattan whom had the same plan, but rather equallized the playingfield instead of "winning material"
Coming back to this video, I wanna say ‘cause I didn’t the first time that your analysis is good. I didn’t really articulate issues with some of the side plots, just felt they were weak, so it was nice to see someone put this into words for me. Honestly I think the best comparison for this story is Chainsaw Man, and maybe the fundamental difference is tone. I don’t mind that CSM is a bit sleazy or any other things I might normally criticize, because CSM has a very specific tone. Heavenly Delusion has typical anime comedy moments, while CSM has a more heightened/absurdist world which justifies a lot. The story in general is so over the top that its characters’ reactions may feel muted, but it works somehow. Like, in such a crazy world, how could you actually parse your feelings? Also Denji has an emotional core that’s understandable, even if a lot of the time he’s a shitbag teen boy. You feel that he wants a home and a simple life. Also his character development is exceedingly rare for a shonen, revolving around growing past dependency and realizing that horny as he is, he wants intimacy more than just sex. I’m not even a huge CSM fan, but I was able to write all that praise about it, and could say more. What is there to say about Heavenly Delusion? It has an almost non-existent tone. Kiriko and Maru have goals, but no emotional anchor which makes me care about them reaching those goals. It all just feels half-hearted, such a weird contrast from the beautiful art. Anyway thanks for this video because it’s the only place I’ve seen anyone criticize the anime/manga. I watched it with a friend and felt pressured to enjoy it so this is cathartic to me lol.
Thank you! I do have to say you made a good comparison between Chainsaw Man and Heavenly Delusion; it explains well why the weirdness of Chainsaw Man works and why it doesn't in Heavenly Delusion. Similar to you I've also seen such positive reception for this series, and my confusion of that is partially what motivated me to make this video. I'm actually working on a follow up video currently to better elaborate on my criticisms in this video along with some new ones, but I'm glad that you still liked my analysis here. :)
@@manthedan4828 Subbed! Do you think you might cover how that lady doctor (the one with the amputated leg) was introduced as a serious character, and then immediately the show switched to portraying her as a lunatic? Like you, I thought bringing in themes of misuse of technology/medicine was an interesting idea, but then the story threw it away. Not to have a nuanced discussion of the issue, but to frame the protesters as idiots or opportunists. I don’t want to go too far but it feels like the story is kinda… conservative? Maybe it’s not the right word, but I’m always skeptical of a story that pulls “what if the protesters were the REAL bad guys.” It could be done well, but rarely is. Then there’s the Kiruko stuff. I get why people interested in gender issues found it intriguing, but I don’t think the character is remotely trans or anything. So far, the gender swap hasn’t done anything for me. If the author wanted to write a trans/gender non-conforming character, he could have just done that, but instead we get “miracle body switch” in a story that’s supposed to be at least semi-grounded in realism. Kiruko/Haruki says they feel like a boy, but they’re treated like a girl, constantly harassed, and even care about being “pretty” as a woman. Along with that, there’s all the sexual assault as you mentioned and weird stuff like the “breeding pig” story. I’m not going to say it should be #cancelled, I’m just saying I find it weird that anime fans are acting like it’s more progressive than it actually is. Anyway, complaining more about the show hahaha. I don’t think we have a lot of overlapping interests but I noticed you used Vinland Saga footage in this vid! I’m a huge fan of the manga 🥰
@@mugiwaraboshi37 I am planning to talk about the arc with the Immortalities a bit more, so I might talk about that doctor if I feel it's important to the script. I never thought that much about those protestors, I might bring that up. I'm also planning to talk a bit about how the show was received, so the whole thing with Kiruko's gender would be worth discussing. Yeah I'm a big fan of Vinland Saga also. 😄
I had two main issues with this show: unoriginality and fan service. Nothing in the story felt fresh. It’s not that post-apocalypse or creepy schools can’t still be interesting, it’s that this story didn’t do anything new with those set ups. The school storyline was more interesting but somehow there was never any tension. None of the characters were stand out, though a couple were okay. I didn’t enjoy the Maru and Kiriko plot line at all-very few interesting or unique stories. Every episode is just going to be “they get a clue but it doesn’t lead them where they want.” That would be fine if they were lovable characters in an exciting story but they weren’t. The biggest issue with Kiriko and Maru is the fan service and romance angle. Now, those things aren’t bad by themselves. It makes sense for Maru to have a crush, and I don’t always hate fan service (I think it works in Chainsaw Man because it ties into the story/themes). But it was such a turn off here. Kiriko actually being her younger brother is the only interesting idea the story introduced but it never got explored. The backstory was weird and inhuman. Then the story just becomes “let’s tease Maru with Kiriko naked and make sex jokes.” I didn’t feel a bond between them aside from that really. The story tried for it but they just felt like flat characters-they’re clearly supposed to be cool but that just doesn’t do it for me. This isn’t even a shonen, it’s a seinen, try harder.
I've watched it like 8 times now and watched 4 different reaction videos for the whole show, my gf absolutely hates the show but it's my #1 anime for the politics alone not to mention the music, themes, and drama
The widespread criticisms and overall lower regard for Code Geass is because of a generation gap, the hype, and the mechs. Remember, at its core, anime is made for teens. The fanbase is largely young at all times. Code Geass is a mecha anime, which is a hated genre in today's anime landscape. Politics/war/strategy dont fit the modern trend towards fantasy and battle shonen. Older animes are only known to the young fanbase when they have hype. When other young people are gassing it up. It's an 00s anime and feels like one. Very few 'classics' survive this lack of hype. When an anime has a fanbase predominantly made up of 30+ men and women, it loses status.Especially with the dated Clamp artstyle. CG is often compared to two currently beloved animes - which hurts it. Lelouch is often compared to Light from Death Note. The ending was copied, largely, by Attack on Titan. Fans of Death Note and AoT are very critical of Code Geass because they feel attacked. Many of them have never seen CG, despite criticizing it, and proudly state they'd never watch it. These AoT superfans attack anything related to CG on reddit or social media. Often with the same cheap insults of "Code Gayass" and "LeDouche." But that hurts a show. Teens are social. Teens ride hype. Teens rarely think for themselves. So when they see a lot of this, they jump on the bandwagon.
Spot on
