this is so true, I used to be torn between getting a 1080p 240hz and a 1440p 165hz. Most people would have said "if you played competitively then get the 1080p". But let me tell you, 1440p is a world of difference compared to 1080p, the targets are much clearer from far away, and my eyes are loving it, while on 240hz (not as big of a jump from 165hz), it really wasn't as noticeable as 1080p is to 1440p. Even for competitive gamers I recommend a higher resolution instead of jumping into 240, only get 240+ if you like near professional skill level in your respective games, or if you are rich obviously.

Once you go 1440p no way you can ever go back to playing in 1080p

So, let me tell you about competitive CS2 and 1440p monitors. Don't listen to Shroud. He stop playing CS long time ago. 1440p monitors will not bring anything to the table if you are a real competitive player in CS2. It's cause mostly we are using 1280x960 or 1280x1024 and at this resolutions you are not using your monitor to the fullest. But you can make 2k resolutions to be 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio. You can make 2048x1638 or 1920x1440 at it will stretch your image to 5:4 or 4:3, but your input latency will increase cause now you are using your GPU more and it has a lot to render on the screen, and your FPS will drop. Many things that are not really good for competitive player. I have 1440p 240hz monitor right now, and I sold my 1080p 390hz monitor. After playing for some time and using the monitor, I would go back to my 1080p 390hz monitor instant, for competitive CS2. I don't play single player games and I don't watch many movies or shows. And also many youtube videos will look like shit on Fullscreen when you have 2k monitor. But I will not go back on old tech and now my next step is OLED monitor, but I don't see any real test on youtube. So I will wait.

I'm on the fence about switching to 1440p because I play many old games (90s-2000s) and things like the hud will be super small with no option for scaling.

In CS2 all you want is FPS. No one cares about graphics. There is a reason everyone uses 1280x960 stretched. Also 1440p decreases performance. Shroud has never played stretched so he doesn't understand the way pros play the game.

Different monitors have different pixel density. You want a monitor that has the most pixel density, a larger display with lower pixel density will be blurry. I wonder if he's even aware of that.

I think on a 4k monitor 1080p can look amazing, but it requires integer scaling which doesnt really exist in monitors (yet). There is an app for that called IntegerScaler which takes a 1080p windowed game and stretches it across the 4k screen with 0 quality loss, every game pixel is 4 real pixels. I think it looks amazing because it is as sharp as 4k and there is no interpixel grid visible, no screen door effect and games run amazingly well using it.

i play on standard hd resolution and i can confirm - my effective range in most video games is until the enemy's head starts to become a pixelated mess that blends into the background environment.

The same shroud who would say no, 1080p is just better lol. Just a few years ago when he would play PUBG. The real reason is that no one sponsored him a new monitor or he was too arrogant to make the change. Clarity will win any day if you get decent enough fps. 600 fps at 1080p is inferior to 100 fps at 1440p.

1440p is fine in valorant a csgo its still a lot of pixels to push my 4070 gets 140fps in borderlands maxed out in 1080p around 90fps in 1440p 🫤

probably im in for a 2k resolution at 24-25 inch 165hz full cap with just monitors vsync i believe shroud will approve this!!! im not any esports player but i do eracing communities championships and there minimum is 37-42 and more inches need :( goes 1000-1500 euros for a good one :( i do a lot war thunder and world of warships i need then 2k 24 or 27 inch
