Yashica Electro 35 GSN - Viewfinder Cleaning and Rangefinder Alignment (Part 2 of 2)
Update!!! After all of this, my lens focusing was not calibrated correctly because I did not factor in focusing distance. I had to take a tape measure and make sure the camera focusing was aligned according to DISTANCE AND the viewfinder diamond at various lengths. I aligned the diamond to around 10ft I think because I couldn't get the diamond at 5 AND at 20 at the same time for example. I used the distances written on the lens for this.
This is the part 2 of 2 general maintenance video for the Yashica Electro 35 GSN. This video covers tools needed, removal of the top plate, cleaning of the internal viewfinder glass, alignment of the rangefinder, and reassembly.
Enjoy!!!

I have the same camera, bouight it used. The only thing wrong with it is the focusing ring was loose and not connected. I tried the 3 set nuts or bolts that are on the focusing and I make it too tight or too loose. How can I adjust it?
Would I be able to send it to you to adjust the focusing ring?
Hey did you make it? I have the same issue
@@solosan11 same question to you :)
take your time, dont rush
mine rangefinder just decided to disconnect itself from the focusing ring, so when I focus the diamond doesn't move at all. Could anyone please help me ?
I cleaned my yashica Lyxx 14 finder, the yellow coated semi translucent mirrored 45 degree glass lost its coating so the range finder is useless as there is no yellow patch. It was very dim to begin with but i kinda finshed it off :-(. I only used some Zeiss Lens cleaner. I look in an old canonet 28 to see if I could swap the coated semi translucent mirror but its about 3mm shorter in the Canon. So i wouldn't touch the coated glass (45 degree glass) maybe give it a brush with a flat sable brush and thats it.
Hi, i have Yashica Electro 35. Is there a way ti disamble the lens?
Thank you, your video helped me to calibrate rangefinder on my Yashica 35.

The "OVER" light on my Yashica GTN never comes on... Do you know what's wrong with it?
Hi.. Nice video there.. Thanks for the tutorial.. If you can made another video of how to replace the new foam inside the camera nearby the viewfinder.. I found out my camera has leak from the front :(
Did you find a solution, friend? I have the same issue I think
Could I clean the VF while film is inside? Not too familiar with film cameras.
Yes, you can.
Thank bro
Does cleaning the diagonal glasses not misalign them?
Robert you are a godsend.
Hi, I have a yashica Electro 35 Gsn impeccable state, but I need a cleaning and an arrangement in the obturado. You fix this type of camera? Could you help me with this? Thanks for your time. Thank you for sharing this knowledge on your channel.
Brilliant video man!
TH-camr filmismorefun has stated, in his viewfinder cleaning video, that the large diagonal piece of glass in the viewfinder has a special coating and should not be touched. I cleaned this like the rest of the glass and thankfully viewfinder seems totally fine. However, had I known this beforehand, I probably would have avoided cleaning that piece. Here is a link to his video th-cam.com/video/FL3Pkn_ptYs/w-d-xo.html
I have the very first model yashica electro 35 and at first I didn't touch the beam splitter but after cleaning everything else I still had a low contrast patch, so I decided to clean the beam splitter anyway as I had a donor camera if required. Cleaning it with methylated spirits didn't harm it and the patch got a bit brighter (I think). I still ended up placing a small piece of nd flash gel in front of the viewfinder but behind the front cover to increase the contrast, now I can see the rangefinder patch easily. Thanks for making the video, it was very helpful.
