I had my thyroid surgery last week. I have felt so awful this week. The tightness in my neck, so exhausted with no energy. Thanks for the tips and I feel like I need to go on a special diet to stop me from gaining weight. I used to be over energetic before the surgery because I had an overactive thyroid. How long did it take for you scar to disappear thanks Julie
I thought you said Happy Hour Toke 😂. Anyway I was told not to touch my incision but that it was okay to shower and if it got wet to pat dry with a clean towel. I have a 3 week follow up next Tuesday.
Hello! Unfortunately, again. I’m rewatching your video because my tumor has returned. I’m doing the work up now but I’ll be going through this again. My entire thyroid was not removed before because my tumor was ectopic and not at all attached to the thyroid. This one is. I just want you to know that you’re still a positive force out here. Thank you for sharing your journey. Be well.

I just had surgery to remove my thyroid and I can't tell you how important and comforting your videos have been for me. I have watched them several times and the information you provided helped me to prepare for everything that is involved with surgery and recovery! Thank you so, so much!

I have Graves, on Methimazole for about a year. Worried about weight gain if I have surgery. Thoughts?
Thank you. Any issues with weight gain?
I am having surgery on Dec 11th. I'm not afraid but relieved in listening to your program, making it easier to maintain my scar, foods that I should be aware of, vitamins and sunscreen as I live in Florida. Should I purchase a C-pillow to take to the hsp with me if I am discharged that day, and sleeping positions. Thank you
I am so scared
Having mine done in 2 weeks time..great information..Thank u for sharing..very helpful.Be blessed🙏
How long before u started using sunscreen ? My doc says to wait until all The glue drops off but that may take a while and I live on the equator and the sun here is no joke
Such a treat seeing the cute baby as you talk about your experience.
I walked to the bathroom right out of post op lol. And walked to my room that I had to stay in overnight! And then I got a cheeseburger and fries 😂😂 i wasn't in any pain except for my throat from the tube but other than that I was watching TV eating all night getting meds talking everyone's ear off and ready to go home!! Everything in the hospital was super easy! However being home was a different story! I'm on day 10 after my thyroidectomy and my neck is still soooo swollen! The first couple days after I got home my entire chest swelled up and i had AN EGG sized ball right below my incision! Scared the hell out of me and thought maybe I needed a drain but the dr said it was fine after sending him pics. It was also very hot to the touch but I used heat instead of ice (ice seemed to hurt it worse) and the swelling went down big time! Sleeping has been crap! Last night (day 9) was the first decent night sleep I've gotten since my surgery. I couldn't lay on my sides it hurt to sit up and just couldn't get comfy in any position to sleep. On a positive note I had such a good dr u literally can't even see my incision anymore its amazing! On a crappy note I'm probably gonna need voice therapy because it really affected my vocal cords:( I know its only been 10 days but my voice is unrecognizable and I have no pitch nothing. And I used to sing and I can't even hum and a correct note so that's scaring me a lot and making me so sad. So I just pray I get my voice back. But I'd rather not have a voice than have cancer so I shouldn't complain!
I would say you have become more beautiful after the surgery... I got my surgery 5 days ago and I have papillary carcinoma for which I will get iodine therapy in december.
The most positive I have come across on this topic, thank you so much, you have no idea how comforting this made me.
I unfortunately have to have this surgery as well soon (going to talk to a surgeon in the next few days). This is honestly the first surgery I will need in my life, and hopefully the only one/last one. These were helpful tips so I know roughly to expect and the notebook idea is a good one (something I would have forgotten and thus would have forogtten things to ask or information they give me). Hoping mine goes well as well and recovery is fast (considering it is the holiday season pretty soon and I'd like to have this done and be mostly recovered by then, but Iguess at the same time, I don't want to rush things as well, but do want to get the surgery at least done as soon as possible as the idea of cancer always scares me, even though they say that PTC is one of the "better" cancers to have if you're going to have cancer since the prognosis is generally good for the majority of cases, but it's still something that can be unsettling for many, especially considering that cancers can come back even if you remove the organ in question.)
Needed this video🥹 Having this surgery in 24 hours and nervous isn’t the word. I’m just praying for the best. Stage 1 papillary thyroid cancer but I trust that The Lord will be with me and see me through it all. 🫂💕💕💯
Hi i am 66 years old i am having my thyroids out and my parathyroid out soon i have high calcium Levels what should i expect ive looked at your videos you explain it well but i am a bit apprehensive could you explain about the parathyroid please

How long after total tyriodectomy can you look out for your period cycle
My name is Jim from Missouri and I might have to have thyroid surgery in November thank you for this video it was very very helpful and I got admit I am a little bit on miscarriage sad cause I’ve never been operated on before
Did you do any other treatment in the following months after the surgery, like Radioactive iodine to kill off any remaining thyroid tissue possibly left behind?
Tomorrow i'll have mine removed. I'm so nervous ><><><
Hi did you get it removed? If so, how's your voice is it normal now?
@mueentaskeen1015 normal since 8+ hours after the surgery..it wasn't as creepy as i thought
Your videos have made me feel so much better about my upcoming surgery. Thankyou for being so positive
Just had my TT yesterday, due to post pregnancy graves disease, I'm still at the hospital and watching your videos, really inspired me, luckily I did not had any issues with the parathyroid or the nerve. My goal is another pregnancy as well, I had two miscarriages in the last months, so the doctors indicated the surgery, thanks for the content
4 years later fatigue an brain fog had been my biggest battles. Plus, a couple of times a month, I get what I call the thyroid cold whereby vI feel so internally cold my only remedy is to lay on an electric blanket for 3 hours. Until I thaw out. I have not identified the trigger that sets it off. On doing comprehensive research, I found lions mane mushroom supplements dissolved for me the brain fog.
My faint scar sits nicely in a natural line on my neck. I chose not to tell most of my friends about my partial thyroidectomy, it was a cancer diagnosis and I preferred to keep this to myself. None of them have noticed my scar. Obviously initially I kept my scar covered with scarves, or polo neck sweaters.
I had mine total thyroidectomy a week ago, I was nervous before going to the OR, but the Anesthesia team and the doctors, nurse even my surgeon were really nice, they made me feel relax and before you know it I was awake, it was a lot of pain waking up and swallowing even talking but thank God I felt so much better after a few days. I still feel tired but I can talk and eat well now, but there is still a slight pain on the incision. Your video really helped.
Unfortunately my scar is the least of my issue. The lack of health 25 years is the main issue. For the first few years I was fine but the older I get the loss of a thyroid is very great at least for me a wwoman.Always a battle with clueless doctors and endocrinologists, should never have let them remove and obliterate it with poisoning my body.Guinea pigs we are to them..
I just had my thyroid removal this Monday. I'm having a cough and I almost choked. What can I use to help with that?
I'm so sorry! Definitely talk to your care team, but I found ice chips, cold water, and cough drops to help immensely. I also put a bag of frozen peas on my neck after surgery for the first few days.
Thank you so much for all the details. Will help a lot for my mom surgery. 1 question, how long will it take to get normal after surgery? 2nd when can you start eating normally? ❤
Hi! It took probably a week to start feeling like I could eat normally, but I have a few other videos which might help you (including this one: th-cam.com/video/G0owQb6GprI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5B6q7FmNS4VtGZwo). It took a few weeks before I was able to work out again, and I felt that I still fought fatigue for a few months.
@@thehappyartichoke3012was there any changes in your voice?
Isnt uh....isnt 30's and 40's pretty damn low for resting HR?!?!
@@ump5754 yes!!! Extremely
@@thehappyartichoke3012 hahaha it just hit me as odd for such low numbers to be a goal HR. Did you have any anxiety or "trigger" moments that have lessened/disappeared after the surgery? I'm researching to prepare for mine and am hoping to get some positives out of this, like my trigger moments and random fatigue set ins that make me worthless at work. I eat healthy and exercise so hoping this makes a difference.
@@ump5754 I used to be hot ALL the time, my heart would beat so strongly that I could feel my body shake if I sat still enough, and I would be hungry all the time (not as fun as it sounds). I also couldn't get any stronger at workouts and was unable to put on any muscle, and also couldn't get pregnant. The changes have all been welcomed!
Thank you for the information. This helped a lot for me. I was able to make a more informed decision based on the details you provided. Additionally, I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge with me. Your insight has truly been invaluable in guiding me through this process.
Thank you so much for these kind words!
Sorry not all peoe actually het bettet, no matter what they do.
I am 28 years post op, do everything you say plus more and i am fatgue fatigue fatigue. Paleo diet helped but findingvit hard to be disciplibedcatvthe moment.
what type medication are you taking post surgery
hey . i hd this surgery about 2 month ago but i still have hoars voice sometimes and scar is didnt go wht should i do
Ma'am it's been 4 days from the operation date....and im having some hypocalcaemia symptoms......is it normal...like happens to everyone?
I also had these symptoms, I think it must be relatively common as my doctor told me to watch for these symptoms. Your provider can adjust your calcium doses so I would reach out and let them know right away!
Hello, I also have a question after removing the nodules, do the eyes return to normal, or does it stay like this
Hello there, I was just wondering how long you waited till you started trying for a baby. How you broached it with your doctor and what aort of monitoring you needed. Im currently 9 weeks post total thyroidectomy with medication (synthyroid) now normal function. I had a thyroid storm poat surgery so was discharged hyper, glad yo have now settled. Your response is greatly appreciated 🙏
@@Laura-mrxrct hi! Great question. I believe I was told it might take nine months for my thyroid levels to be normal again and for me to be able to start trying to have a baby but I believe it was closer to six months post surgery! Best of luck to you ♥️♥️♥️♥️
@@thehappyartichoke3012 Thank you 😊 hoping to start trying again near Xmas time. You're in inspiration for me. Your videos have really helped navigate what can be a difficult journey. Hope you're doing well 🤗
