Thanks for sharing! Just curious, did you have a vacuum attached and on the full time you were working?

im not sure how safe it is to be using your mouth for this, i get that you said not to pull with your lungs but im still a bit concerned. isn't the whole reason a hood is so important to prevent us from breathing in any silica offgassing from the melted glass? particles & dust aside cause if it was just that we'd simply wear a respirator. there are fumes and shit offgassing from the melted glass. that said, i am a noob. so i could be wrong here as i dont know anything with 100% certainty. it just seems.. like, idk the reason they use the vac probably is for more than just convenience.. like maybe safety. anyway all bs aside, im not complaining thank you for the very educational video. i learned alot of new stuff. & weather im scared to try it or not atleast now i know something new, so thank you for that!

Yeah just sucking in boron fumes and all the oxide fumes in the color. The heat even though its low eventually burns out vacuums so idk about the longevity of this tech maybe in a pinch for a demo. 🤢

Let's be honest, none of us can confirm or deny the presence of "scary chemicals" in a vapor without being setup to do spectrum gas analysis. IMO there's no way any of that stuff is making it up the blow tube or blowhose. Likely condensing an inch from the heat if it exists at all. I've been sucking down sleeves with human power for 25 years, no ill effects yet. That said,, the vacuum pump sure is handy for large and or long exhausting techs... like when I need to vacuum down a stringer stack millie inside of 85mm tube on the lathe. What sucks about vacuum pumps is how they vaporize pump oil all over themselves and their surroundings... filthy.

@@_-__--10035dhkie what burns out vacuum pumps is that they run out of pump oil. You gotta check em and top em off once in a blue moon.. If it was the heat, whatever hose you're connecting the vac with would melt first.

i remember back in the 90s when inside out first got big there was a guy sucking on the tube while he was fuming... this reminds me of that. Btw, he died a few months later

The tech Jason Lee showed me was to just stripe the color on the outside of the tube, then stripe clear over all of the color, condense, and pull. We did 32 lines of color on 50x5 and then striped 12mil clear in between each line of color

Rob F. That's the way everybody was doing line to prep before vac stack became the norm also it's not known as vac stack if there's no vacuum its Stick Stack. I was in house when the first true vac stacks were being invented by Dave Strobel

@@auraglasswerks4900vac stack is a old industrial technique we just finally started to apply. A lot of us old schooler were doing stick stack before the vacuum came along. We just lost a ton of clear on either end and trapped air sometimes.

You can handle that scale on a Bravo. I've done 40mm sleeves with it.
