We are training them to stand up straight. It is just tape. Like doing a hairstyle. When we take the tape off, the ears will stand up.

While the puppies are little, we use tape and foam to help the ears stand up straight, then as they grow the ears naturally get stronger and they can hold them up. About 150 years ago, Great Danes had smaller ears, like a Caine Corso, but through selective breeding the ears have become larger and larger. There are many people who call uncropped ears “natural”, however the excessive size of uncropped ears have health risks. Therefore, cropping reduces health risks and makes for the classic Great Dane look pointy ears.

@@treenaspencer8910 thank you. Tattoos also are not naturally occurring. But some people choose to get them- and they look awesome. Some people do not like tattoos. Same with dogs, some people like cropped ears, some people don’t.

@@spicypdx Tiberius weighed in at 49lbs this morning and Vivian is 44lbs!!! (That was at 6:30am… so not sure how he weighs “mid day” when he tends to be up a bit

Foam and tape is used to help train their ears to stand up on end. (It isn’t tight, just upright) While the puppies are growing their ear cartilage gets stronger, so they can hold their ears upright all the time.

@@angelheart6936 yes, they are actually quite loose. We use foam noodle to act like a post to just gently support the ears so that while he is in his growth spurt, the ears grow cartilage making them stronger. Overall promoting healthier ears less prone to ear infection or hematomas.

We are training the ears to stand up right and be pointy. While the puppy is growing, if we put a piece of tape covered foam rod in the ears and (gently) tape them, cartilage will grow into the ears and make them stronger. This is how you get the classic “Great Dane” look. It also helps them by strengthening the ears to prevent hematomas from head shakes and promote ear health by preventing moisture build up inside the ears. Some people do not like cropping ears, As they may believe it to be cosmetic. But like all cosmetics, makeup, piercings, tattoos, etc, some people are vocally against it.

I wanted to share the natural beauty. “Rendezvous” is a scout camp event for Explorer Scouts, Venture Scouts and Sea Scouts (high adventure aspects of BSA). When I’m not doing puppy / dog show stuff, I take the kids to/on their scouting adventures. This is the first of the summer. My next series of puppy videos will be training and preparation for dog shows.

No. We only planned on keeping one of them. The rest have wonderful homes with “Great Dane” people. Big hearts for big dogs.

We actually kept one of the boys…. We planned having this litter and keep a boy from it for the past 4 years. So not all the pups are gone…. :) but the room is clean.

She’s actually handling it really well. She’s not moody at all. In fact, quite the opposite. lol.

Oh thank you, don’t worry; long story short. We have an AKC champion great dane we planned on breeding since before she was born. She is currently 3.5 years old and we just had our planned litter. The pups are AKC Futurity nominated to be one day future show dogs (and hopefully champions). We kept one pup, and two of the three others are also in dog show homes. One is going to be a “pet”… but probably could have been a show dog too…… they just live too far away from dog shows.

And most important, the "show" pups are also loved family pets first - and show dogs second. They live in the house, nap on the couch - and will get spoiled. ❤

When you have the ears cropped (rear edges removed) so that the ears can be trained to stand on end. The cup and head bonnet is to keep the ears protected so that they can heal in a safe and clean manner. Great Danes have been bread with larger and larger ears over the past 130 years to enable prettier cropping. The cropping also helps ear health through cleanliness and prevents bell potential hematomas (bursting of capillaries and bleeding) from shaking their heads.

This song came out when high speed internet and video streaming was possible (20 years ago). It opened a world to Bollywood production not (commonly) seen in the west; and really catchy music.

Through the TH-cam app I was searching for a normal version of the song, but all I found were remixes either sped up electronic dance style or this “heavy metal” version. I think the original would been better; as I was trying to edit the head shaking as if it were the dance moves.

Hahaha, very true. You tell them apart in person, but on video, the colored collars are to make it easier. Red was checked first and was already moved back to the car, the other two tiny dogs were the vet’s personal pups. (Private vet clinic means bring your dog to work day is everyday.)
