More practical strategies for managing low level disruption
Here's a few more ideas you can try to help you manage low level disruptive behaviour more effectively.
We can all see this flare up from time to time. It can occur following a period of absence such as long holidays like the Christmas break or lockdown (teachers and kids); it could follow maternity/paternity leave, when your status is no longer current, or when you move to a new school, or when you're a supply teacher, or....you get it! This is the second video where we tackle this issue, so watch both and let me know how you get on! Remember-there is always a solution.

Thoughts on the pros and cons of behaviour habits in the classroom
มุมมอง 393 ปีที่แล้ว
Both teachers and learners can develop bad habits in class...being a 'nuisance' to get deliberately removed from class (the kids I mean); shouting at those who misbehave, and so on. But the fact that habits are hard to break can be a positive for us with the right perspective. This video explores that perspective so that you can develop your Behaviour Ninja skills and become the teacher whose l...
The dreaded return to class...How to do it well!
มุมมอง 403 ปีที่แล้ว
Perhaps you are returning to school after an illness; maybe maternity/paternity leave. It could be after lockdown, or simply after an end of term fortnight. Whatever the situation, many teachers can find this a stressful time. And of course, worries about behaviour can top the lot! This video will explore just a few tricks you can try so that you can pre-empt behaviour problems. I've used these...
Managing Students who Coast
มุมมอง 163 ปีที่แล้ว
We all know these children...we see them in older primary classes and right through secondary; doing the bare minimum in class to get through, never putting any effort into providing an answer and sitting back in group work. Some will have valid reasons; many will just have developed a habit with what is lazy, chosen behaviour. They all need and deserve us to expect better of them, and to suppo...
Using the Secret Student Technique for Behaviour Management!
มุมมอง 663 ปีที่แล้ว
Secret Student is a technique I first saw on Teachers' TV I think, and I love how effective it can be, how easy it is to implement in your class, and the rapid results it sometimes brings! Here we get a basic explanation, how you can adapt it and blend it into your work and "what to do if..." I've used it with the most challenging students I've worked with and found it to be an effective tool. ...
The Running The Room Companion by Tom Bennett: A Recommendation
มุมมอง 4093 ปีที่แล้ว
I like Tom and I like this book! He knows the reality of classrooms and presents his take on managing challenging behaviour in an effective way here. This book will make you think. I know there are opposing views and approaches and actually I think that's great-we need to see all the possibilities when it comes to classroom management, so we can find what works for us. For me, this book (the Co...
Managing Low Level Disruption in Your Class!
มุมมอง 4393 ปีที่แล้ว
This video will take you through approaches to managing low level disruption in your class to react to it in an effective way, but, perhaps most importantly, to reduce the likelihood of it ever happening in the first place! This kind of disruption can make teachers question their career choice, and ask themselves the question "Am I cut out for this?" Yes you are! You just need knowledge; techni...

Ooze High Status by Anticipating Compliance
มุมมอง 353 ปีที่แล้ว
Teachers (and parents) can use the "Anticipate Compliance" technique in many scenarios and in a multitude of ways to present themselves as a teacher who expects their instructions to be followed. As a teacher who sees that as the norm. Here, we explore that a little. Feel free to add any ways in which you use this approach, or if there's a situation you are struggling with, where you feel this ...
Life changing Mantras!
มุมมอง 763 ปีที่แล้ว
These mantras were shared with me many years ago; every Behaviour Ninja knows them and every teacher needs to! They are: Analyse don't personalise; Fight fire with water; The problem is the problem, not the child. Learn these, reflect on them when things go right as much as when they don't, and you'll be edging towards Behaviour Ninja Status! For the Behaviour Ninja App for Android devices, go ...
Don't ask questions if
มุมมอง 3073 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a quick skill stop, to share an alternative when asking questions is really counterproductive. You might work in a school where every child is relentlessly well behaved and that's wonderful; but then you wouldn't be on this channel if that was the case, right? Most kids in most schools can handle needless questions, read between the lines, and not rise to the bait. And then there's the oth...

Timely reminder Dave - Thanks. It is so good to hear professionals like you clearly stating that time is needed to reengage with learners to ensure that they are in the right place for learning to take place. We must not forget the huge anxiety many learners are experiencing. I was speaking to a parent today of a student who has predicted grades of 8 & 9 but still they are very anxious and nervous of what faces them when they return to school. As educators this must not be underestimated and using familiar routines will provide safety and security to learners to reengage with face to face learning.

John you asked in another comment which book I'd recommend if you were only buying one. I can't see that comment at the moment, so I'll reply here and say at this point in your career, go with the Companion and persuade your Headteacher in the future to buy the other! Good luck in your future endeavours, hope the other videos are useful and don't forget to like, subscribe and share; this channel is a new venture so I do appreciate the support!
