Altitude is getting to you? At only 3,352 feet? Most people aren't affected until 8,000 ft, and many hikers can climb to 10,000 with no problem. Above 14,000, unless you live at altitude, is a difference story. Nice video, though.

The stairs were carved by slaves when the Emperor of Portugal and Brasil came during the Napoleonic wars. He wanted to go to the peak but it wasn't "fit for him", so they carved those out with blood and sweat of enslaved people.

But the info in this video is pretty much incorrect. I lived there for a year and it is one of the best places to live in Rio in my opinion. Very communal, caring, lovely.
