This video is inspiring me for when I become a future band director!
6 years later and I’m pcms beginning band (I wish band was like this)
This is great Kelly. I listen to this when I'm anxious. Your voice is very uplifting
Amazing work! ❤❤ I want to be half the teacher that you are.
I'm trying to figure out where the heck she was when I was growing up! She is incredible and it's evident in how engaged and astute her students are. Job well done!
Great class, amazing teacher ❤
This teacher is excellent. Well done!!!
This is incredibly helpful, thank you so much for sharing!
Hi GG
I miss school band for these exercises tbh, your teaching is amazing!! ❤ flutist here, been playing for 14 years
Thanks Ms Kelley. This is very helpful.
what metronome app did you use?
Tonal Energy
Awesome, very useful methods.
LOL the sign that says No Crap!
A 6th grade beginning band. Absolutely amazing for that level I know that when they go on 7th and 8th, they’ll be even better
AND.....DON'T EVER slam your instrument down hard. Not never, ever. Regardless of what it is you play. That isn't towards the awesome teacher, it was towards the students.
We need more middle school/beginning band content
You rock! Love this!!
How do you teach the warmups? Do you have written material or any books you use to get them to this point where you have a routine and they can fluently make it through the warmup consistenly.
Are you using a method book? if yes, which one?
So much substance in just over 40 minutes.
You did an excellent job! I am working on this with my 5th graders and am so impressed your students' performance. I know that takes a lot of work!
Thank you ! Started band with my students and needed some inspiration. You’re amazing 😊
This is a master class in teaching MS band! I'm starting band this year myself, using this as a template for sure. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yeah, play on! Great lesson!!
Omg. The range for beginners
Definitely not me before middle school starts watching all the band video I can…
Clearly, a PRE-Covid vid! LOL re: Breathing (beginning)
We still did it after Covid
I learned just by watching the video
High respect
I love the way you command the room! Very good leadership.
What middle school is this, This is a great teaching style, teaching them the basics and really making it clear, motivating them to practice and become amazing musicians. If I ever become a band director I’m looking at this video immediately to help guide.
I would like to see this from the beginning when you're first teaching everyone how to play and how you keep the room engaged then
It was at 8:27 that I read the sign above the projector.
I'd love to know what your first lesson of the year looks like, you can really tell they know ready position and how to share out appropriately, that takes time to build!
This is just what I need. Starting a band program on my 27th year of teaching. Although I interned in a Middle school in 1994, I'm a guitar player and was never part of band growing up. We recently got a brand new state of the art building for music and Art complete with top of the line equipment, truly a dream come true. I'm now in the process of immersing myself in the " Band World" and will go all the way to ensure my students become the best band in our area. Of course I'm aware I cant do it alone so I'm trying to create a team of willing and able educators and volunteers in my area down in South Dade County. Any suggestions are welcome. I feel this video has so much to offer me, I will study it and apply these concepts many of which I presently apply in my music classroom. I love it, as I said Just what I need
Thank you.
1. I love a music teacher that emphasizes a metronome, breathe and scales. You will never go wrong if you have those three in placce.
Watching for my observations and even though I’m going to be a choir director, there was a ton of useful information on here!
this is great!
Dang this was so cool to watch, very inspiring teaching! Preparing for my first full time primary music teaching position! I'll be checking back here for tips! Thank you Mrs. Johnson!
I watched this is part of my teaching observations, and while there's so much you did amazing on, I have to applaud you for how well you kept your lesson moving at a pace that your students didn't seem overwhelmed with and still keeping them engaged. That's such an amazing skill! Keep on going and God Bless you!
I can't imagine any of these kids would go into private lessons saying the all-too-common (after a few months or years of playing): "I don't know what a key or time signature is, don't know what any of the terms on the page mean, and have never played with a metronome." She's setting up them up BEAUTIFULLY from the beginning to know their basics thoroughly. KUDOS TO HER!!!
Wonderful job! I love the pace. What is your mic and speaker/ blue tooth set up?
I wish I had a band director like this
I'M STEALING ALL OF THIS!
As a future Music Educator this is so helpful. Thank you so much for posting!
Oh, I hadn't realized Steven Copper had left. Congrats on the new director. Sounds like you find a great new teacher though!
Seda has been the director for 20 years, Cooper was his assistant
@@kelleyjohnson5756 Oh that makes sense! Gotcha, thanks!
Thank you SO much for posting this! I am studying to be a band director and watching this is definitely helping me a lot!
