Not to mention that all they do is collect fees and here in CA the chairman of SEIU which I’m a part of was charged with task evasion and financial misconduct. Also don’t forget that you can’t be hired as an independent contractor in sites run by unions.

So unions can do it. They just do not like the opposing views?? Spoken like the unions I know. I’d close my doors before I let communist run my business.

23:53 "We already have affinity groups". Otherwise known as Employee Representation/Resource Groups (ERG or ERP or ERO or Equity Groups or Company Controlled Unions). any attempt to by the company to create a alternative or Company Controlled Union is a violation of the NLRA (See Western Union's Association) I noticed during the Mass Layoff cause by Covid & followed by the Floyd riots that the COO & CEO of company started praising the Segregated ERGs while spreading fear of racist to push division. How would counter that without being called an R-word?

I actually don't want the writers to win. Not because I don't think people should get paid more or I believe in unions. Hollywood writers is not important job, quit and do something else. We need teachers and HVAC and elder care nurses. We don't need another Fast and Furious or Transformers movie, I think if the USA had less content we'd be better off. We need LESS streaming services! We need fewer ads. I hope 90% of the writers don't get paid and go do anything else. Go be a garbage collector you would do more for your community, be less stressed and probably make a little more money.

I was a rank and file union member, in fact during the 1986 Strike against United States Steel I was one of the few people willing to get arrested when we had to block the entrance to our job. The big problem I have with all the unions in the US is that they are run by Americans, and Americans are extremely racist. The 1986 lockout was agreed to by both the union and company because they both wanted to violate the consent decree that they had both agreed to. In the consent decree, they both agreed to no longer keep minorities out of the higher-paying maintenance jobs. It was a fake strike that ended as soon as we ran out of unemployment. Apparently, the union was unwilling to use its strike fund on a fake strike. They had tried to get us to agree to allow maintenance to take production jobs in the event of a slowdown but Texas Works refused and was shut down for this after the strike. We were laid off with no unemployment or any help from either the company or Union. I transferred to Irving Works where they tried to silence me at their union meetings. The president of the local finally threatened to have me killed at an open union meeting. The NLRB made the union agree to no longer keep me from participating in Union activities. After some more questions regarding the 86 strike the union president finally told me that I should not be mad at him over what happened at Texas Works and that I should be mad at Bob Clowres; the Texas Works local president, because he insisted on a remanning agreement that the International Union did not like. I also have my doubts that production workers like me who are in the majority voted to give their jobs to maintenance. Later the president of the International Union Lynn Williams did an interview on TV in which he expressed his and the union's support for a Union officer who had been convicted of taking bribes from USS during the 86 lockout. I pointed out to them that when I told the truth about management harassment the Union threatened to have me fired because I mentioned that a union member reported me to management during my testimony. I told the Grievance man to go ahead and try it because the Civil Rights Act overrode any Union rules. I was told I could not invoke the Civil Rights Act because the employee who snitched me off was Black. I told him this did not apply to me because as they already knew I was a Native American. I told him that I was going to make my testimony and they could do what they wanted about it because to most Native Americans Black people are a majority with a history of oppression. He asked me about the oppression and I just asked him if he had ever heard of the Buffalo Soldiers. USS fired him and then the Union warned us that there were some company spies that were amongst the new hires. The truth is for me that what I read in Ralph Nader's book The Big Boys is that Unions today are far not interested in the people they claim to represent, but only care about keeping enough dues-paying members to maintain themselves in the lifestyle they have become accustomed to.

Hi, I'm a grad student who got a scholarship along with 20 other students that covers our full tuition and gives us a stipend, $25,700/year. We're expected to work full time (at least 40 hours/week), face to face (despite the Delta variant) and move across the country to different work sites during this program while going to classes at night (virtually, not on campus). Are we eligible to unionize? We don't receive health benefits, relocation funds or any other assistance. Multiple students are applying for food stamps. The organization that provides our scholarship thinks that we are very privileged for having our tuition completely covered, even though the classes are virtual and we work full time. Can we unionize?
