Hartford's Mammoth Marathon Ch 10
Brittany & Natalie Haas and friends sight-read all 176 original fiddle tunes from the book, John Hartford's Mammoth Collection of Fiddle Tunes in front of a live audience on October 7, 2024 in Nashville, TN. The show was live streamed by The Violin Shop, Nashville. There are ten chapters in the book; this video contains all the tunes from Chapter 10. Tyler Andal, Darol Anger, Sami Braman, Wilhelmina FrankZerda, Sharon Gilchrist, Troy Gilchrist, Ellie Hakanson, Jack McKeon, Joe Newberry, Kaitlyn Raitz, Omar Ruiz-Lopez, Tristan Scroggins, Chris Sharp, Vickie Vaughn, and Douglas Waterbury-Tieman are special guests.
Chapters 1-10 will reside on the John Hartford Official TH-cam channel @BGRASS2001 and will also be posted on Facebook on both the John Hartford page and The Violin Shop, Nashville page.
John Hartford composed over 2,000 fiddle tunes between 1983 and 2001; those tunes were found in sixty-eight music composition books after his passing. 176 of those tunes have been published in the the book, John Hartford's Mammoth Collection of Fiddle Tunes, written by Matt Combs, Greg Reish, and Katie Harford Hogue (John's daughter). Our hope is that these tunes will go out into the "fiddleverse", to be played and enjoyed by the community for years to come.
These same tunes leap off the page on the albums, The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 1 (produced by Matt Combs and Katie Harford Hogue), and the soon-to-be-released Julia Belle: The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 2 (produced by Sharon Gilchrist, Megan Lynch Chowning, and Katie Harford Hogue). For these recordings, some of your favorite acoustic musicians were asked to choose their favorite tune, then brought in studio to interpret that tune through their own filter. The results are stunning.

Wow!!! Got chills from the top of my head to my toes!! Literally and honestly!!!
Great line up but the highlight for me is Sierra's solo. Only thing wrong with it is that's too short. Would have loved more but the others are v good too,
Very good and inspiring. Greetings from Arnbak Banjos DK
phenomenal...thank you
This song of John’s was the reason I started to play the banjo. Well done ladies!
This is absolutely glorious. What a collection of talent, and if you say "talented women", I shall have to ask you to step outside. These are some of the top players in the business, period. Also, I'd like to see this much joy in every musical performance, always.
In addition to world class talent, what you have here folks is class. Especially with Alison Brown. Whenever, where ever you see her, expect top quality bluegrass.
Wonderful!!
Wonderful job all around! There are signature songs that belong to an artist and can rarely be done well by anyone else, but you girls nailed it👍
Yeah, buddy
My favorite book
Uhhh, yes???!!!!!
I dig this beyond the scarves of castile.
I wish I were there with them !!!
This is beautiful
Like hearing a version w/clawhammer.
In A flat???😮😅 sounds great tho!
I haven't seen Kathy Mattea since the 90's. She looks exactly the same!
Happy birthday, John Hartford
Great to see Megan Lovell back in bluegrass. I remember her at our local opry
Great!!!!!
Is this group of musicians touring off of the album release?
My goodness, what a great team! This is music with soul and heart, thank you so much for sharing.
Brilliantly played!
wow i bought that album when it first came out.
🔥🔥🔥
🥰💙
We miss you so.
Brilliant thankyou
That's too much talent! I have to sit down.
In G#.
Supergroup.
Amazing musicians and a Hartford tune ..can't beat that
Wonderful. Merry Christmas to me! 😊
Great musicians one and all! Such a beautiful joyful performance.
This would make John Hartford proud 😊
JUST WOW!!!!! This brought a very big grin to my face! Thank you Ladies!!!
Gorgeous! And I love the fact that there is no mandolin being played, so I can sit at my kitchen table and add that part in the background! ❤🎉
You're lucky, Rebecca Lovell was not available that day
@@fatherkenzie Or that Sierra was on gitar.
Tremendous fun! Brings me back to the night at McCabe’s when John had the audience get up out of their seats, put the chairs against the wall, and then he called an impromptu square dance. He was on fiddle, scratching out percussion by scraping his foot on mic’d rock salt on the stage floor. Definitely one of the greatest entertainers I’ve ever seen.
Even though it's been 23 years, I can still see Alison playing John's banjo at the ceremony to celebrate John's life at his home in Madison. Miss him every time I open my banjo or fiddle case, 'cause there he is!!!
These are all good tunes...inspiring
♥
exceptional!!!
Great rendition of this John Hartford classic
Sierra is playing Tut Taylor's dobro riff on the guitar.
Sierra on guitar! And Megan! This is awesome! What a terrific group to bring together. 👏👏 ❤
Always loved Kathy Mattea. Her bluegrass roots go way back. She did her damnedest to boost Tim O’Brien up, but he’s not a C&W star kinda guy. Stellar playing here all around. 💙
Insightful and informed comment.
I love seeing Megan Lovell playing here. She needs to be featured in more bluegrass. She is awesome.
On the other hand, she’s doing such amazing work electrifying dobro ideas in Larkin Poe!
You do know that she cut her teeth in bluegrass with the Lovell Sisters band, right?
@@martinparmer Yep! But I actually like Larkin Poe more. They really found their focus.
This makes me smile and cry at the same time.
What a talented group. I didn't know Sierra could handle a dreadnought like that!
lol. lil lady
There's an awesome clip of her as a kid playing guitar, cherokee shuffle, i think .
