Bonjour! After playing with the precon a couple of times, it's actually pretty cool seeing the full deck in a specific foiling. It's too bad we can't afford to get all of the others!

No sweat, I think the Ripple Foil got swept under the carpet because of all the hype for serialised Eldrazis and new revelations like Nadu 😅

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I'm a complete degenerate and have opened 30 collector boosters and didn't get a single one and was thinking wtf these ripple cards don't exist.

So we took a few of the Ripple foil lands out of their sleeves, and left it out for a few days. unfortunately yes they still pringle...

Ah, are you referring to the Collector Sample pack in the commander precon decks? One of those cards can be a non-foil but it should be like an extended-art variant?

​@@tapandsac The card is a 2024 card with no star from a Yuma, proud protector commander deck two traditional foil pack. It's card code thing is R 0358 OTJ. Also, the other card from the pack was not a traditional foil but it was a foil and it's pattern looks deliberate, but I couldn't find anything on (the first page of) Google. It's card code thing is U 0052 OTP.

As far as we know, they don't filter by foil types, but one nifty trick when searching on CardKingdom is to look at the URL of the card image, it will usually tell you what type of foil it is.

That's a ton of packs.. and those things aren't cheap. I would be really sad with only 3 lotuses...

The packets retail each for around $98 in Australia or around $230 for a 4x pack, but you can get them on special occasionally. It illustrates how rare the lotus is!

Agree, they're one of the few where you can feel a difference on the card. Maybe one day they'll have it available for the regular set rather than special variants

THEY ALSO DONT CURVE like regular foils do. if a card is expensive at all, im not buying foil unless its foil etch generally

Old border etched foils.. any recent examples to share? The recent Lotus Petal etched foil promo comes to mind, but I'm not sure if that is in the old border or modern frame.

Textured foils so far have only been seen in very exclusive printings (like a lottery card) so quite hard to get. But I agree the raised printing does make it stand out and special!

Unfortunately pretty much all mtg foil cards do...

@@tapandsac to some degree, yes, but there are huge differences between foiling styles and printing facilities. Just compare LotR and brother’s war.

I haven't really paid attention to how different printers affect the foiling end result, maybe because I'm not big on the collecting aspect. Between LOTR and BRO, does one curl less than the other? What do you think is the main reason for that?

@@tapandsac afaik different sets are printed in different facilities. Therefor the curl factor is different, even if the foiling type is the same. Brothers war was one with heavy curling, LotR or dominaria remastered were almost completely flat. I heard Japan produces very good foils, but in the USA they still have issues (or don’t care). The reason for curling is the moisture in the air, resulting in the paper part of the card to expand more than the foil layer. But I have no clue what they do to minimize this in certain facilities. Maybe the paper is exposed to moisture before the foil layer is applied? Etched foiling is not affected by this problem, because the „shiny stuff“ is in the ink and there is no foil layer.

Thanks for explaining, that's interesting to know. Where I'm from, it's very humid so everything I see pretty much curls, regardless of Japanese or US prints (but personally I still prefer Japanese prints overall). That thing about etched foiling is new to me.. I should take out some etch foils and experiment to see if it really doesn't curl. If it doesn't, that would be amazing.

Definitely understand how you feel, I was also playing at the time, when the first ever foils were released. I'm glad I still have some of them but wish I had 7th Ed ones

Foil 7th Birds of Paradise is a true classic.

That is really beautiful, and also worth a ton now. If they ever reprint it with the same retro foiling...

Oh that's right! The ones with the Phyrexian symbols scattered across the card. There's also the Neon Ink special foils though those were a lot harder to get

There are so many variants today that even longtime players get confused. Glad this helped and refer back to it whenever you need to see what the foil looks like up close 👍🏼

That's right I forgot to include the Mystical Archive foils, but in all honestly the selected foiling of the non-Japanese MA was quite underwhelming. sometimes I didnt even know if I had a foil 🤣

Thank you! At prerelease I saw Gruff Triplets in action and you're right it's crazy value. Three 3/3 bodies for 6 mana and when you kill one off, the others become 6/6s? My only problem is I thought my other green cards were quite weak so just relying on the triplets to show up each game doesn't sound like a good idea.

Agree, Doubling Season is such a good card and will always have a place in Commander. I'm glad it's getting another reprint in Wilds of Eldraine too!

The Lord Skitter's draw is ability is so good although you do need an enchanted creature. With Roles it should be doable in this Prerelease. Are we connected on fb? I'll drop you a message abt the givesway prize :)

That hasn't been reprinted much so I also do hope it falls more. It still looks quite pricey for CMM, probably because it's a mythic that is hard to pull. It's such a good card, IMO the most popular dragon cmdr out there
