Thank you so much!! I wanted to capture the feeling of being trapped & how debilitating this feeling can be when everything you want is _just_ outside, all you have to do is get up and obtain it. In his case, the ocean is visible just through the window- a whole world of water & wonder waiting for him if only he could get to it. It's an impossible goal, and yet, he's crying with a smile. Even if he can't obtain what he desires most, at least sitting here he can catch glimpses of pretty water and imagine what that world would truly be like if he wasn't immobilized. :3c As someone with social anxiety that keeps me inside a lot, these are feelings I experience myself, it's just from my own mind instead of red ropes & an invisible captor. I love being an artist sometimes cause I get to portray those darker emotions with a crying fish and kink for fun LMAOO

This is such beautiful artwork. Did the initial idea evolve during the process, or did you stick closely to your original concept? Like, how did you decide on the theme or subject matter, was there any inspiration? Or was it a commission?
Thank you for your kind words and questions! I created this piece for mermay earlier this year, and the main inspo was a photo I found on Pinterest of a girl sitting in a fish tank ?? LMAO it was weird but cool looking and the palette was very green, so I decided to adapt that into a mermaid in a bathtub instead. :3c What I ended up drawing is very different from that initial inspo (different pose, colors, she was just a girl and he’s a fish haha). The background itself started as a 3D model and I shifted it around until I got a perspective I liked, after that I sketched a few poses until I settled on the one you see here! There were no real plans once I decided it was a bathroom scene, I sorta just vibed my way through intuitively and stuck with what felt right 😊💚
