I am Joby Grantland and I'm a self-taught musician from north Alabama that plays multiple instruments. I played my first professional gig in 1994 at the age of 17 and I've been going ever since. I started this channel when Covid forced me to cancel an entire years worth of shows I had booked and I was desperately needing an outlet for my music. Here you will find covers, originals, live recordings, multitracking, and the occasional guest appearance. I'm always open to take request for any song and I have my PayPal linked below should you want to lend a little support for my music. Dude I just checked out your channel....You can shred brother! Now your compliment means even more to me. You wouldn't know just from listening to my videos but I'm a big metal fan and you are fantastic! If you ever get a spare minute watch my Can't Lose You Type-O cover. I can't emulate Peter Steele's vocals so I didn't even try but I tried to get the backing vocals as close to the original as possible. Also you have a new subscriber and a big fan of your work.

Thank you brother. It's definitely work, and alot of time, but your right about it being worth it. I have been playing piano professionally and semi-professionally for 30 years and that was almost entirely performing live, I had not done much recording. Covid forced me to cancel an entire years worth of shows I had booked and I had to have some outlet or I would have gone crazy. So I bought a Zoom R8 8-track and then spent a year in my shed that I half converted into a small studio learning how to multitrack. You being a gifted musician will understand this, recording all these songs alone has made me grow as a musician more in a year than the whole last 30 years combined. I was having to become more proficient on bass and especially guitar because I will never claim to be a good guitarist, and I'm learning to play drums, I had never played them in my life till 2 years ago, and the hardest has been the vocals, I'm a weak singer and had only sang harmonies before. But besides the joy in improving on my abilities, I'm tapping into the creative side of music instead of the performative and when I'm finally done with a song and can sit back and listen to it for the first time completed, it is as fulfilling and possibly more fulfilling than it was to play for an audience of thousands. And being able to have full control over every single note of a song eventually helped me discover that I have a particular sound that I seem to gravitate too that I think has slowly begin to come through the songs I record, even the covers. Damn just realized how much I wrote, forgive me...I could talk music all day. Thanks again

Thank you so much! And you nailed the sound I was going for. The rhythm section, the chord progression and the instruments I used are definitely R&B, but I feel like my lead guitar parts are a little out of place. I was going for a David Gilmore Pink Floyd sound with the lead but I think it came off more 80''s power ballad maybe. Thank you again and I'm so happy you like it, slowly I'm gaining enough confidence to write some more.

HOLY HELL POPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 AMAZING! simply freaking intoxicating honestly it's like laying on an inner tube floating calmly down a lazy stream relaxing not realizing your tube has a hole in it and you find yourself submerged in and inveloped in the vast ocean of melodies , and then as you float in the void of bliss feeling the music dancing through you cause you to just melt into and become one with the music and sound this is truly an amazing piece it is one that literally makes you listen to The whole whole song you can't turn it off you can't skip it you just have to finish it it's like you just mesh with it and sway and put you in the state of euphoria I'm love this song baby it was one of the best you have done pops once again another master piece!!!

Last suggestion..."Slow Dancing", which they wrote for Willie Nelson. There's a b-side version of him performing it with them. Also, all U2 songs are credited to the band, not Bono, I believe. At least it used to be that way, though maybe he gets lyrical credit. Last thing, the heart with wings was something added during the Pop album, for "If God Will Send His Angels". Wow, guess I'm a bit of a nerd on the subject...
The image I actually got from an AI generator. I typed tattoo broken heart with angelic wings, and that was one of the results.
"Love Is Blindness" or "So Cruel" would also be good options. They'd work well with your fuzzy feedback approach on this. It's got Daniel Lanois vibes (like maybe try his "Sleeping In the Devil's Bed" or "The Maker"). Jack White does a raucous cover of "Love Is Blindness"....
Don't be scared of U2, though there's a lot of tough vocals. Maybe try "Stay" or "All I Want Is You"...or other Rattle & Hum options.

It's been a year and a half since I uploaded this song. It was December the week of Christmas and my little studio I'm in was not completed and had no heat, and no insulation, just 1x6 boards for walls, so you can clearly see me wearing gloves playing piano, drums, and lead. And if the resolution was better you could see my breath singing lead because it was -3 degrees F that night....in Alabama! I was frozen to the bone throughout making this whole video and recording the instruments. So when I see this video I always go back to how cold it was that night. I had a little space heater that I kept my hands in front of when I wasn't playing an instrument. Yeah it sucked.....but through tribulation I think a pretty dope cover of a perfect song got made. Joby Behind The Music for you my 10s of adoring subscribers, that I love dearly like you wouldn't even believe...seriously.... Me watching myself here is view number 1100......... My homie The Mighty Del was view number 1 and I thought it was cool he listened to it, I wasn't really expecting the following 1099 views to happen in my lifetime if ever. The thought of so many people hearing something so personal is actually a little humbling because you feel like you are opening yourself up to being rightfully judged and/or embarrassed. No one wants to look stupid so you have to be prepared for the potential of more than a couple of friends seeing your work. Now I wonder how many views will I have a year and a half from now? Doing the math says it should be around 2200.....thats alot of people....imagine playing a show at a night club and 2200 people show up.....that would be a solid W!
