Here is a shoot out or comparison between a Neve style Preamp the Warm Audio WA273 and a API style Preamp the CAPI VP312. Neve is usually a more warmer sound while API is a more mid forward sound. I think these clones do a good enough job emulating the Neve and the API, in spirit anyway. Hey, what's your honest opinion of the V67 since you've had lots of time with it to compare to better mics, or more expensive I mean? I've always wanted to get a pair for a few things. Also, you can easily mod them to make them a little better, but I mean they seem to sound pretty good anyway hah. I wonder what kind of SPL's the circuit/Capsule can actually take.

    • @redtonestudio2982
      @redtonestudio2982 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think they are great mics for the price and I'd love to have a pair of them just like you. I would worry though with being budget mics they wouldn't be very matched from one to the next. I've used them on electric cabs before blasting pretty hard, I feel they take a lot of abuse.

    The Warm preamp was indeed "warmer" with a midbass bump compared to the CAPI and the CAPI had some more high end, perhaps because there wasn't that midbass bump... I prefered the CAPI because of the smooth bass and clean high end but it still had that nice midrange saturation... Warm seemed muffled a bit in comparison... @compucorder64 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@redtonestudio2982 Also, if you squint, the IN-8s look like two-ways. And if you squint harder, the JBLs don't look like carp. Same same ;) I got the Kali's for a project studio. Have APS Klassiks at home, but the IN-8 v2s do punch above their weight. The build could feel sturdier, but for the price I'm fine with simple build, if they are reliable and the sound is great. Glad they reduced the Class D noise and removed the standby problem the originals have (the reasons I didn't buy the OGs). Kali are clever here, because there isn't to my mind a competitor for the Kalis anywhere near the price. Things like Focal Evo 65 are 2-way AND a bit compromised in the treble. Dynaudio Lyd 5 is much weaker. ADAM 3-ways are nowhere near this price. The JBL 305s, 306 and Adam T5V, T7V are still great value propositions though and do sit well enough in the ballpark of the Kali LP6s. Adam build quality feels a bit sturdier than Kali & JBL, if you don't hate the AMT tweeter (I kinda like it).

    The kick was great, I really like that comparison, and quite frankly it's inspired me to try out all the condensers I have on my kick. Now, I don't want to sound like a jerk but with the way you were playing the whole kit, it wasn't realistic and didn't really reveal anything interesting about either mic imo. Drummers typically play with the volume and tone and reaction of the room to the whole kit altogether, kind of like you wouldn't just pluck guitar strings at low to soft velocities randomly to demonstrate the sound of a guitar. Sorry, but I hope that helps. Loved the rest of it, though. My most recent mic purchase was a WA-67 and it easily became one of my favorite mics.

    FYI the bridge is not supposed to be glued on its a floating bridge held down by string tension movable for intonation. I have 4 of these guitars ranging from 1944 to 1968 Made in America and made to last ❤ I didn't understand why when you had the neck off why you didn't reset the angle.

      I left the bridge unglued, that is what I figured it should be, I had to really cock it to get it to intonate correctly. I probably should have checked the neck angle, but I just put it back to where it was. To me the string hieght is quite good now, I don't think it needs a different angle. Thanks for watching!

    If you don’t want to go in ceiling’s for the front and rear heights ( living room set up ) would bookshelf speakers on the front and back wall pointed at the listing poison be ok

    Brought back from the dead. I have a similar old archtop found in an abandoned house. Neck is seriously loose but heat and pressure hasn't let me remove the neck even though it's loose. Feels like it has a fastener. I have done the hammer and block without success. Still considering more aggressive methods.

      Good luck! I'm surprised this one came off as easy as it did. It did break off a bit as you can see in the video, but mostly intact. Who knows what has happened in the last 50 years, so somebody may have put a screw in there somewhere. Thanks for watching, I hope you get it resurected!

    Yeah, they will be cursing you. Using Titebond II which is water resistant it makes it hard for someone trying to get the glue to soften with steam. That is why people use Titebond original with the red label.

      @@redtonestudio2982 If you ever think of moving up a notch or two later in price, and don't mind two-ways, rather than three ways, I definitely recommend considering the APS Klassik 2020s, from Poland, at around 1200 a pair. I love my Kali IN-8 v2, but the APS Klassik 2020s do beat them slightly in some ways. They have tighter bass / while somehow deeper, they're louder, better built, and the soundstage and midrate is more open. HEDD Type 07s are a step up above that again too, at around 1800 a pair. Even so, I don't think the IN-8 v2 is significantly lacking compared to those, considering they cost 1/2 to 1/3 the price of those. They are more than 80% of the way there.

    Mic A sounded like it had more presence (high frequencies) and articulation through good headphones. But, I don't think it's enough of a difference for most people to notice unless they're heard side by side as you have done on this video.

    I had one just like that. Got it from a Salvation Army thrift store that my ex worked at. She saw it and grabbed it. Mine had a sort of tiger striped paint job on it. Had for a while there till it just wore out. Lol.

    Only problem with the 990 was the self noise. mine doesn't sound that noisy tho so idk if there's something wrong with the chain or mine is a golden sample. The WA-47 sounded better in all aspects but I figure it suprises no one!

    • @redtonestudio2982
      @redtonestudio2982 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, it was no surprise to me as well. The self noise can be quite an issue on low output sources, once you are recording amps or drums though that goes away quickly. You have to be careful of stacking up that same noise though if it is your only mic. Thanks for watching!

    • @redtonestudio2982

      @@sophiarayne for sure, vocals are usually very dynamic, lots of loud parts lots of quiet parts. Then usually you add a lot of compression bringing up that noise floor.
