if i had to take a guess, considering how fucking cheap the cords themselves are, im guessing the blocks themselves are quite cheap, and over time, the way the plug folds, the metal contacts under the prongs that touch other contacts in the block maybe wear down and don’t make a great connection, likely causing arcing and burning. it could be something else too though, likely relating to the connection between the plug and outlet

If your iPad charger smells like burnt wire, and or also heats up too much it’s time for a new charger. If the “block” (part you attach to the wall) is also heating up too, get a new block too. It’s most likely worn out by now and burnt. Just has to get a new charger and block because I touched the end of the charger a minute after I plugged it in and it was as hot as cookies that just came out of the oven. Couldn’t see what was wrong because I had put duct tape all over it because my dog chewed on it once and I didn’t want it to hurt the charger. I unplugged it and touched the block and lo and behold, it was burning hot too. If I had waited any longer it could have started smoking or even started a fire. Probably would have broke my iPad too if it started smoking or burning. I personally bought my new charger and block at a store for only 15 dollars because it was a phone charger. You don’t have to get a iPad charger, it more expensive. Unless you wanna I guess.

So I fell asleep on my charger box and i woke up to the top cracked so I investigated and got to the point where it was just what’s inside the plastic so I had what was under the plastic stuck in my outlet and I was SO DUMB and tried to unplug it for mom the things you plug into the wall and it shocked me for 2 seconds and I was like ahhh it didn’t hurt to bad but then I tried from the battery part and IT BLEW UP I jump back so scared and all around my outlet was all dark from it: now I’m stuck with the battery and the outlet things stuck in the wall and I have no clue what to do

This happened to me once except it was a iphone 6 charger it BLEW UP Like there was fire on my bed Bu luckily the water was cold so the fire went out quickly so there was smoke so dont overheat ur charger I REPEAT DONT OVERHEAT UR CHARGER IT WILL PROBABLY CAUSE UR HOUSE TO BURN DOWN!

Try plugging it straight into a wall, or getting a new charger. Make sure you actually go to the apple store or order on the apple website, because off Brand ones can be super annoying and be dangerous.

One time I was on my bed, my IPad dropped on the charger, which cause smoke and sparks to come out. I quickly unplugged it, luckily it didn’t catch on fire. (There was another one by it so I could charge it there) My IPad has two holes. If it were by the power button, It wouldn’t work then. This is a true story, yes this is a fire hazard.

My lumsing 4 port usb wall charger did the same thing and then it sparked really big and I could see the spark light go threw the side of the device even tho it’s thick plastic, now each of the foldable prongs don’t retract together and the don’t click when snapped fully open.

Happened to my ipad charger this weekend. My 9yr old daughter was charging ipad and it caught fire. She ripped ut out of outlet and fire went out. How did you address it with apple. Her grandfather was sleeping and house could of burned down if she didnt act quickly. The outlet is was plugged into is crispy black and wall is black. The circuit breaker tripped. She had black on two of her fingers and small blisters developed.

If you plug it in to those outlet strips, theres a higher chance of it doing that. Dont plug it there if tvs, lamps, fans, or anything that may consume a lot of electricity already plugged into the same strip.

Mine didn't do this but it got so hot that when I unplugged it burnt my hand, and left a red square on my hand. I brought it to an Apple Store but all they said was "hmm... it's out of the year warranty so, sorry." Then the guy asks "what happen to your hand?" 😑
