I have been a collector of 78 RPM records for over half a century. Beginning in 1968, I have cruised junk shops and yard sales, plus records collectors groups to swap records, mainly in my home state of Maine and now Florida. My field of interest is jazz from 1917 to the late 1940's plus blues when I could find them. I have avoided paying high prices for records, originally 10 to 25 cents, but later up a dollar or more. Hopefully you will enjoy my collection at least half as much as I have enjoyed accumulating it. The music is from CDs, LPs & 78 rpm records from my collection and other sources. If you see the 78 RPM label, it's from my collection. A special "thank you" to past & present record collectors and friends who helped me acquire some of these records. Alton Myers, Joe Quinn, Bill Bryant, Tim Wiles, Craig Ventresco, & Steve Carson.

The earliest greatest jazz trio - Albert Nicholas for purity of notes - R M Jones for laying down the melody, and Johnny St. Cyr for tying it all together.
Nice tune. I’ve noticed 3 or 4 other songs along this theme, to let the relationship continue as it is and not break it up.🤗😮😎
simple and unmatched.
❤👍🤟
Another reason to love life: Bessie Smith and Eddie Lang!
This fits perfect for the rare occasion of the end of the Feast of Bobunk (which celebrates cats) and Friday the 13th (in which black cats have heightened powers). [September 13, 2024]
There must be some mistake in the credits. You have no vibraphone in this recording, and there's no credit for the trumpet.
So good
Miller Paul White Linda Williams Maria
So good...
I'm always pleased to hear from relatives of the performers on my recordings. For all the names of the famous, there are many unsung heroes who supported the performers. Thank for sharing.
My father, Jack Gibsone, wrote this song for Fats Waller way back in 1939 with his buddy, Derek, who coincidently was working as the A&R man at HMV in London in 1939. Fats Waller asked Derek (aka Raymond DeGreville) if he could find any new songs for his imminent recording session. My dad and he had already got Smoke Dreams into a form that was presentable so when he arrived for the demo session at the Oxford street studio he sat down and played Smoke Dreams accompanied by his piano. I still have this demo. It was finally recorded at EMI's Abbey Road this time Fats played on the Wurlitzer studio organ. My Dad passed away in 1993.
Facts 💯 : 💔🌃🌟🌠🌴🌊 🏖️ ✅☑️✔️🎯
one of the best and most forgotten recordings
It is actually Jimmy Harrison on this and Jingles, the flip side.
Thanks for posting this rare version. Do you have a different take of Basie's honeysuckle rose? I've only heard a few seconds of it but I can't find it anywhere
Is Onyx Club Revue also on this disc?
Eva was a fine vocalist!
Love this song and what a fantastic rendition by the Nicholas Brothers.
Is Delmar “Skipper” in this group?
Love it
Great tune! One of my favorite Purvis compositions. Oh, and, that's a photo of Bobby Hackett.
Good stuff
They sure don't make em like they used to, music to perfection ✌️😀✌️🇬🇧🏴 Aug twenty four
the picture on this video is of Lil Hardin Armstrong, would you mind replacing it with a photo of Lovie Austin, to respect her legacy?
I've had this tune stuck in my head for ages without knowing what song it was, and I finally found it! Thank you!
Goosebumps
Great changes in the improvised solos; truly inventive soloists!
Wow!! Finally the whole thing. We had the 78 rpm set and I used to listen to it all the time. I was 11cor 12 at the time, learning the mama dada drum roll for band! My Mom and I were in a car accident and we were at Grand moms for mom s recuperation. Lunch hour was mama dada on moms bed pillow, then back to school. I became a musicians and eventually a music teacher in High School, Surrey B.C. Canada! Of course the original album did not survive but we did!! Mike G. Victoria B.C.
Fascinating track, picture and solos from a band too little heard. The wonderful-toned Arodin shows us another side of his playing.
This is my Grandpa Reuter singing. I am so proud.
I am so pleased to hear from relatives of the performers on my uploads. It gives a human touch to historical music. These were amazing musicians and beloved family members.
What a solo from Dizzy!!!
Wow!! Never heard this one. Thank you!!!
I always enjoy Slam Stewart but I would not say this track features him more than the others?
I only have 100 characters to describe any track. I'd love to list everybody, but no-can-do.
But thanks for the comment. I hadn't listened to this for a while and it is a great track!
Well done, a little more pep. Ohervise Ok❤👍🤟
Interesting rendition. I'm used to a hard-charging jazz interpretation. This is very sweet.
I green up listening to him play. He was my grand uncle
Magnificant Bubber
Wow! Thank you.
Two takes back to back; some variation in intro and along the tune!
Most beautiful version of Stardust by Jack Jenney and orchestra!
Amor desde Canarias para todos los isleños. Grande Nuñez!! <3
Charlie Johnson from Massachusetts led the house band at Small's Paradise in Harlem from the mid 1920s to the mid 1930s. Like many Harlem bands it pulled in musicians from other parts of the country as the years went on. Leonard Davis, St. Louis; Sidney DeParis, Crawfordsville, IN; Jimmy Harrison, Toledo,Detroit; Cyrus St. Clair,New Orleans; Benny Waters, Maryland by way of Boston show the range of backgrounds. Edgar Sampson may be the only real New Yorker in the band
Great
Thanks, great stuff.
Hi James, I knew Frank (Victor) Viggiano, even worked with him in his later years. I have some questions regarding this track and may be able to answer questions you may have. Look forward to hearing back from you
Where is this sourced from?
From a 40 - 50 year old bootleg LP.
I own this record, and the label states this is the New Orleans Jazz Band. Is that the same as what you have listed? Is there any monetary value for this Domino 3439-B recording?
New Orleans Jazz Band was a cover name on some labels for various groups. This group is really Booker's Jazz Band (which is actually the Kansas City Five with Charles Booker on alto sax added for this session only.)
I can tell yours is in good condition compared to mine😅 thanks for showing me all the details that mine is missing!❤
Kudos for posting the personnel and recording information. Much appreciated.
